Ticket just did too 5 worst sports hires in metroplex history
wardly replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Football
Grand Green hit the nail on the head, having both basketball and football teams play paydays on the road. It was designed for failure, and the 1st thing our new president did was to fire the A.D. Regarding Dodge, he was in over his head, but R.V. should have required all of his assistants to have a college coaching background. A friend of mine is a former high school coach, and instead of supporting anyone who moves directly into a head college football position, they are actually resentful since he didn't pay his dues thru the assistant college coaching ranks.Fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me. -
North Texas Mean Green vs. Old Dominion Monarchs - 2/13/14

How in the hell did we beat A&M on the road? Plus, Tony B. gets a 3rd year unless Ernie K. buys him out. Finally, I was at the UA@ Huntsville game, never played basketball past the 9th grade, and think we made a bad hire. That's all I got. -
The head football coach at Memphis makes $900,000 per year. Ryan Waters is not yet in their database, but bet its a good jump over his UNT salary. If you look at resumes of all assistant coaches it looks like their in the witness protection program as much as they move around.

I was surprised that Mike Nelson's name wasn't mentioned when Coach Mac was lauding his staff at the Feb. 5th signing event. Out of site, out of mind?

Hate to bring it up, but UTSA has 19 returning starters.

A Star Telegram Recruiting Article With A TCU Co-Ghostwriter?
wardly replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
If memory serves, and it might not, we started out with a 36,000 seat stadium for $32 million. China host Olympics and price of steel and concrete skyrockets. In addition, we get few major donors, and only have about $6 million in cash and pledges. By the time we get our act together, we are looking at $70million+ for a 30,000 seat stadium, which we have yet to fill. Now that we have a much better product on the field, I hope attendance will rise. One of the differences between a major program such as LSU and UNT, is that fans come to see the Tigers play, while at North Texas fans come to see who the Eagles play. -

We are in violent agreement. TCU won't schedule us anymore, and neither will Baylor nor Texas Tech.Texas will on occasion at home only. -
I just prefer a large city over a big town. I guess that's why I live in Dallas instead of Denton,or Sanger.

TCU has 30,000 season ticket holders, so they are not going away, and will recruit up to the level of Big 12 conference, just as we will in CUSA.We last played @ TCU in 2002, losing 10-16. We had lost 5-19 in 2001. -

In retail sales the view is that if one person complains there are 10 others who feel the same way but don't say anything. What difference does it make who wrote the article. Where there is smoke there is usually fire. -
I wouldn't discount UTSA. They are the only game in town, and I would take living in San Antonio over Denton in a heartbeat.Looks like we are recruiting the same football players as Texas State and UTSA, so I don't understand looking down our noses at them. As I recall they beat us at home when we were playing for West Division Title and being host of CUSA championship game, and they were playing for pride. If anyone is a sleeping giant in the next 10 years it might be the Roadrunners.

We don't do the simple things when it comes to marketing. Since we have throwback helmets left over,I would have had some at this event to sell. Also,I would have had mean green club information available at the HOD helmet table, as well as introduce Jessica and announce that if anyone needed information regarding joining see her. I had a successful sales career of 35 years in Health Care and am just amazed at the opportunities we pass up.

Call UNT Athletics @ 940.565.2662 and ask for Dan Johnson. He will hook you up with helmets.

UNT 2014 Football Official LOI Signed List
wardly replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Bleacher report, for what it's worth, ranked our class 11th out of 13 other Texas schools, ahead of such powers as Texas State and Southern. -
If they are 12 head coaches in Ft. Worth, then its a problem. If 12 assistants, not so much. Regardless, whoever is responsible for our recruiting in Cowtown should be made aware of this article.
-
The number of Ft. Worth coaches responsible for our low rating doesn't matter, and last I looked Dickey has been gone 6 years. So far the response of this board appears to be denial. Its like asking customers why they don't like a product and if you get the answer you want it must be them, not us. Regardless, perception becomes reality if not corrected.

We still have one scholarship left for a DT, which we really need. Any ideas as to who is left on the radar?

Sometimes I think our assessment of signees is like 2 people seeing a car wreck. One says the truck hit the car,the other says the car hit the truck. Rivals ranks our class as #107 in nation,#14 in conference.Granted we signed a smaller class than most, but 107th?14th? Are we watching the same movie as Rivals?Perhaps a better way to grade a class is to divide the total number of players sighed into total numbers of players stars to get an average ranking per player, though I haven't taken the time to do so and don't know for sure if it changes overall ranking.
-
To your point, how does our recruiting class rank within CUSA?
-
Dan Johnson still has throwbacks for sale at $300
-
Sorry. I meant wiseass.[just a joke] Go mean green!
-
I would hope that our recruits would be a step above those of schools like Texas State and ULM. We have arrived, in my opinion, when we win more that we lose going heads up with T.C.U. and S.M.U. We really have a hard time competing with those two privates.

According to DMN 1/29, he had offers from Houston,UNT,La. Tech, and Houston Baptist, with no mention of Southern Miss. However, thanks for the update, smartass.
