So its UNT and SMU at the bottom of the barrel, with pillow fight on the 12th.

Riley's dad got fired and he moved on. He had more guts than any kid I have seen, but was not a D1 Q.B., even at UNT. He had the heart, but not the size or speed.I wish him well.

Remember that it took Moses 40 years to reach the promise land, which he never saw. At 72 years old I feel his pain.

I think its kind of sad that we are arguing over whether or not we are ranked in the Bottom 10% or Bottom 30% in the nation. The key word is BOTTOM.
-
We are ranked 122nd out of 128 programs, with UTSA and UNC Charlotte bring up the rear. Even SMU is ranked ahead of us at 110. You can argue that we are not that bad, but that would be like 2 bald men fighting over a comb. What difference does it make?

G5 should move up the ladder, just like high school classification. That would give us 3 official tiers in college football. Tier 1 could play tier 2 in non conference, 2's could play both 1's and 3's, and 3's could play 2's. North Texas and CUSA would remain at tier 2.[ What do you want? what do you need? What are you willing to PAY for?]

I can't find 6 wins. We have a terrible road record, and this year only So. Miss. and SMU look winnable. At home, Portland State,UTEP, and UTSA look like our best opportunities. In summary, 2015 looks like a repeat of 2014 to me, and that might be a stretch.

Gosselin: How can North Texas football emerge from obscurity?
wardly replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Boise State is to Idaho what The University of Arkansas is to Arkansas. They are the biggest school situated in the largest city in the state with no competition.[ unless you consider Idaho and Idaho State ]. I don't understand why we can't have a program as good as ULL. They excel in men's baseball, women's softball, football, and are on the rise in basketball, and do it with far less money than UNT.If ULL can do it,why not North Texas?- 28 replies

How does he keep his job? One winning season with his predecessor's kids, complains about attendance to deflect from his record, can't recruit, picked nearly last in the west after 4 seasons. Hoe do he do it?

As my mother used to say," if you can't sing well, sing loud", which sums up our football program.

DCTF argues Houston, SMU should be top G5 progra
wardly replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Houston should be best of the rest,SMU could be. Our focus should be on our program and ways to increase attendance. In my business experience, increased sales solved most problems. In football, increased wins should increase attendance. However, I see little in any difference between Mac's offense and Dickey's, hence our inability to recruit top quarterbacks and receivers. High schools today play a different game that they did 15 years ago, but we are stuck in the past. Time to replace Mac.- 29 replies

SMU Announce 2017 &19 home and home with Ark State
wardly replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I doubt SMU will be invited to join a power conference, but agree that their athletic program and fundraising is light years ahead of ours. Besides, it takes 2 schools to make a rivalry, and I only see North Texas interested. To say otherwise reminds me of U. Conns recent announcement that they have created one complete with trophy with UCF without asking them if they are" all in." Since this was the 1st that they had heard of it, they declined.Personally, I would like to see UNT's athletic program mirrow ULL.They have had more success with limited resources than any program I am aware of. -
While not in a large market, ULL would bring a lot to CUSA in terms of its overall athletic program.

I don't know where those 30k and 40k fans per game played. We just had the 2 sides of Fouts, and didn't play in either the Cotton bowl or Texas stadium until 1971 Also,we were 8&2 in 68',7&3 in 69', and 3&8 in both 70' and 71'. The last year during Rod Rust's era that we won the MVC was 1967 with a record of 7-1-1. The only year I find that we were ranked in division 1 was 1977 under Hayden Fry. We were 9&2 and ranked 16th in nation.[later Miss. St. had to forfeit a 2 point victory so out official record was changed to 10&1].

Water do you have it yet?

Lake Bridgeport down about 22' -
I have slept since then, but I think there was an attendance requirement. In addition, I don't know what conference options at the 1A level were available to us. Also, an alumni donated 1$million for the 10,000 aluminum seats that never felt a butt.

I always thought she should have been given her 20th year.

Any idea why Peterson bombed? He was a head coach in a major conference. Just asking.

Harry, I am just an old fan and not interested in a leadership position.[not that you were offering] However, I made a good living in Health Care Sales for over 30 years, and know what a good product is.Our basketball program, especially women's, is not now nor has ever been with a few exceptions.[ We were lucky to have Ashton for one season.] Johnny put out good teams, went to NCAA twice, but averaged only 3,500 fans in his best seasons. That's not exactly demonstrating to prospective coaches that we are a basketball hot bed. Regarding football, I see no reason why we shouldn't dominate CUSA West, but we don't. My point is that perception can become reality, and if North Texas is really a good job for a head coach, why do we hire who we do? And if its not, what can we do to change that perception? I don't think my attitude is defeatist , but then again I am not looking thru rose colored glasses.

Some of us need to get real about the allure of coaching either men's or women's basketball at North Texas. Looks to me your options are an assistant on the way up or a head coach on the way down. We are not a destination, but rather a stop. The same might apply to football as well. Just because we have interest in someone doesn't mean they have any interest in us. "Mac" says its a hard place to recruit players, but its probably just as hard to get coaches.
