Dam those Red Raiders! They called off the dogs at halftime preventing them from scoring 100 points and having UNT crack the top 80.

Oregon State AD: Pac-12 will look to add new schools quickly
wardly replied to NT80's topic in Conference ReAlignment
It seems like every football conference we are in we want out of with out having won anything except for the early years of the Sun Belt over 20 years ago. If we have an opportunity to move to PAC 6 for double our money great otherwise let's just try to be competitive in the AAC. -

What I don't understand is all the love for Teas State. They had a decent football season last year and off to a good start this year but like UTSA do nothing in other sports. While I realize football is the driving force behind the PAC's expansion it's not like Texas State has a large following or successful history in football since moving up from 1AA.Their attendance and student body are similar to UNT and proximity to San Antonio is comparable to ours to DFW. However in looking at some of the P4 schools some of their players transferred in from I am guessing [and its only a guess] that they have more money for NIL. Also C Rod is probably correct in his post regarding the cost to the PAC after buying the 4 best MWC schools might have them looking hard at the AAC for additional programs. It also has been reported the Tulane,Memphis, and SFU have little interest on moving from one G6 program to another, especially since the PAC doesn't have a media contract. However I have demonstrated that I am clueless regarding realignment as I just can't seem to accept geography no longer matters. It's one thing for your football team to fly cross country 6 times a year. Its another for your other sports. Oh well. -

All the pod casts say UTSA, Texas State, UNT, and Rice if the PAC 6 enters Texas. If they stay closer to home its UNLV, SJSU, and New Mexico. I am just providing information with no opinion. -

The AAC requires a 27 month notice with a $10 million exit fee. Anyone think we have the money to move to the PAC 6? Also the PAC 6 doesn't have a media rights contract so you are betting on a come. -

Evidently you didn't travel to Norman to watch us get pounded by OU in the worse UNT game I have ever seen. However this game is looking familiar. -

Try 63 years. No wonder we are coming out with both a Mean Green beer and bourbon. If we drink enough it will help us to forget this game. -
I am surprised that New Mexico is in the PAC 2 expansion conversation. UTSA appears to be a lock if they expand into Texas. Texas State is getting some noise but they are basically in the same market as the Roadrunners, so UNT could be a good match. The pod cast word is that the PAC 2 is paying $100 million to basically "buy " four MWC schools and don't want to spend anymore hence one of the reasons they have interest in AAC programs. Also the UNLV pod caster said the the Rebels have financial issues in their athletic department plus political problems in trying to separate from Nevada Reno. Also mentioned was that the AFA was passed over because the academies don't participate in NIL and that they possibly might be interested in moving their football program to the ACC and other sports to the Big Sky. However it would cost then $18 million to buy out of the MWC. Finely Sacramento State has a group of businessmen and alumni who has put together a committee to move their program up to 1A status so they might be considered by both the PAC 2, who has stated they are not interested, and the MWC, who has made no comment to date. Surprisingly this committee doesn't, at this point in time, does not have university representation included. Finely,I have no predictions other than the sun will rise tomorrow.

Texas State and UTSA are basically in the same market.

It was a good game. ASU was lucky to get out with a win.

Proving that once again that I have never been correct on realignment [ but I keep trying ], new podcasts have thrown out a $100 million value for a 10 team PAC with UNT, UTSA, Rice, and Memphis as potential targets. With a $10 million per school payout that will get any AAC member's attention. At any rate stick a fork in me. I'm through reporting ,guessing, and hoping on what the PAC will do next.

The PAC 2 doesn't want Nevada but the Wolf Pack and UNLV may be locked at the hip by state politicians. I don't know why the AFA wasn't invited unless after getting CSU the PAC 2 doesn't really need another school in Colorado. To me New Mexico doesn't bring anything to the table other that a very poor state with sparse population and no following. If the PAC 2 really wants the best teams in the west it appears to me that UNLV and AFA would fit the bill.

Great response!

The Denver market. Regarding media rights value of the new PAC 6, a former executive of Fox sports who negotiated for before retiring Fox said on a recent podcast that a combination on the PAC 2 and MWC schools would be worth an amount similar to the MWC's current contract. Finely the addition of UNT to the DFW market and Rice to the Houston market hasn't moved the media needle nearly as much as successful athletic programs in much smaller markets. Memphis and Tulane come to mind.

People watch Tulane and Memphis when they play. No one watches UNT,UTSA, Texas State, or Rice. [Also UTSA and Texas State are basically in the same media market.] How has being in a larger media market helped UNT and Rice?
-
I don't think of the 4 programs you mentioned only UNLV is a real consideration. CSU and the AFA are in the same market so the Falcons are out. Hawaii is heavily subsided by the MWC who might no longer be able to contribute to its travel expenses forcing the Rainbow Warriors to drop football. However the MWC could pick up UTEP and NMSU and move forward . Personally I don't see any advantage for UNT moving from one P6 conference to another when the money is the same, the travel expenses for all your sports are astronomical, you can't compete the other programs NIL money, and your away games kick off at 9:30 pm.

I don't see that any of the 3 G6 programs in Texas add anything to a PAC 6 rebuild. I aree with you that Stanford and Cal are locked into the ACC. Even if it implodes and Clemson/FSU bail out the others could stay and still have a "Big 12" type of conference . Two programs that may be caught in the middle who are west of the Mississippi are Tulane and Memphis should the PAC 6 wish to reach that far. However the tv money the PAC 6 offers will probably be in the $3 to $5 million range similar to the MWC and AAC. In addition, all you are doing is moving from one G6 program to another which is not their goal. Their best bet is probably to sit tight and be available should expansion opportunities in the ACC or Big 12 arise.

I tried this email without success.

Hey, just a recap. I guess the only new part was which 4 they picked, at least to me ,as I though UNLV would be included. Besides, I pay myself by the word. Have a great day!

So from what I have gleaned this morning from several podcasts is that the PAC 2 [now PAC 6 with pending additions of SDSU, FSU, CSU, and BSU] needs to add 2 more programs by July 2026. Their stated goal is to put together the best "West Coast Conference" that they can." Speculation is that they are taking a wait and see approach to the possible implosion of the ACC with an outside chance of reclaiming Cal and Stanford. Everyone doubts this is a viable option but the PAC 6 has some time and they will have no problem adding 2 additional teams. Who might they be? Well the AFC and Colorado State are in the same market so it would appear the Falcons are out, and evidently UNLV doesn't ring the bell. Back filling with 1AA programs from the states of Montana ,North and South Dakota doesn't, in my opinion, work. First these are small universities in sparsely populated states. Second they would be required to increase football scholarships from 63 to 85 which would be extremely expensive. Third they are required to pay $5 million fee to NCAA for moving up. Finally, they must make a major commitment to generating NIL monies which is only going to increase annually. The next two additions will be tv driven which eliminates Texas. Who on the west coast wants to watch UTSA, UNT, or Texas State? Besides, none of them have a pot to piss in when it comes NIL money. I was surprised that the announced Saturday attendance at the Texas Tech away game at Washing State was only 27,000. So who will be the other two members of the best "West Coast Conference" OSU and WSU can put together? I don't have a clue other that it won't be a problem.
