My grandson is in a high school band so I have been to his games this year plus UIL competition. Surprisingly a number of bands twirl replica rifles including his.I could never get a reason why.
-
Attendance?
-
I know. My grandson plays in high school band and we went to game Saturday. He though though the band was great but he's only 14.
-
We just want a football team that our band can be proud of.

I don't hate baseball, but what I don't like is people who seem to want something for nothing . A dream with out a plan is still just a dream and far I have seen no plan to fund a venue. I went to a health care seminar years ago where a woman who's husband was terminally ill. About 70% of a dying patients hospital bill is generated in the last 24 hours trying to keep them alive. She said that she didn't care what it cost as long as she didn't have to pay for it. Based upon lack of football and basketball support at UNT why would you think that baseball " would lure fans in the spring, spur donations, as well as tickets and and merchandise. "However in the future, which is now, universities will be forced to look at at profit and loss is the athletic department just like the rest of the universities departments. My definition is revenues less expenses equals profit or loss.Based upon your definition of revenue sports swimming would fall into that category if we charged dollar to attend a meet, passed around a collection plate, and sold swim caps. In summary UNT has only so many beans in the pot and to waste them on a very expense non revenue sport seems ridiculous.

Texas State hired their football coach the same time we did. He just got a new contract worth $2 million per year with a record not that much better that Morris.

A friend of mine was on the LSU Tiger Club Board, who raises money for athletics and parcels it out based upon the departments request. When the Tigers hired Baylor's WBB coach his response was" great, now we can lose even more money ." UNT loses money on every sport it has so great, let's add baseball so we can lose even more money. Every dollar they pore into athletics is money that is lost to all other departments. I care about football and basketball but a real revenue sport is when money in is greater that money out.

We are missing money from our alumni base and participation from our students. Yet we continue to pore money into our football program hoping something will change but it hasn't.

Our baseball stadium would probably seat 1000 max and draw about 100 fans . We also don't, in my opinion, need a new basketball venue when we only draw 4,000. SMU dropped baseball decades ago because it is a money pit. If a school that has the money won't waste it on a baseball program why should UNT who doesn't have the money do it. Check the number of college that lost millions of dollars. Last I looked T.T. was in the hole a few years ago to the tune of about $6 million and they had a good season that year. [ I have slept since then and may be off a million or two but they did lose money.]

We hired a coach that runs the Mike Leach run and gun offense. The concept is score fast which puts the defense on the field for a lot of the game. We knew this when we hired him so why are we surprised that this is what he is doing? The problem is that we have a shit defense to begin with, and when we go 3 and out they don't have time have a brief rest between possessions . If he can fix the defense net season we should be okay. If not make a another coaching change that based upon our history will change nothing.

On the other side there is no reason to think we can compete in baseball. Its a financial drain that starts with the construction of a venue ,which I will ballpark [pun intended] the cost at at about $15 million which we don't have. Then the cost of staffing, scholarships ,travel ,Title 9 additions, etc. , all for adding an expensive non revenue generating sport seems irresponsible.

First, in my opinion, firing a coach after only 2 years sets your program back at least that length of time if not longer.[ there are rare exceptions like I.U,. this year].Next, if you look at the return on investment in our football program from the outside looking in we are overspending . I know I may be exaggerating but it seems like we added a lot of administrative personal when Wren was A.D. Finely, I don't know how other schools handle their buyouts and quite frankly don't much care. What I do care about is that no matter who we hire as head football coach and regardless of the amount of money we throw at the program the end result stays the same. We just are not worth a shit and with rare exceptions have not been since Fry left 46 years ago in 1978. Looks to me we are just throwing good money after bad.
-
Their coach was previously at LSU and was pushed out for NCAA infractions. He is a good very good coach and recruits well so I personally am not troubled by this road loss.
-
We couldn't afford the gas.
-
The money saved wouldn't make a dent in the amount we invest in football. Basically at this point I feel that we are throwing good money after bad art this program.
-
Just my opinion but coaches should get 3 years to turn their program around. Having to beat Temple to go 6&6 and a 3rd rate bowl game is not what we envisioned 6 weeks ago but then life rarely is.

The ECU fans were just about equal to our UNT students. I guess they all went home for Thanksgiving.

Attendance yesterday?
-
So when is the last time UNT covered the spread this year?
-
B.S. You don't know that. It's just a guess. My freshman year was 1961, I was the vice president of a major fraternity, and neither that or either of our opinions means jack. Historically , with some exceptions, we have had an underfunded athletic department that put out a poor product in both football and men's basketball. For some reason[ which I can't explain],even after spending 10's of millions of dollars on bricks and sticks for the football program and increasing our athletic budget by million's of dollars we still put our a poor product. It's become difficult for those of us who have financially supported UNT athletics to the best of our financial ability, for years if not decades, to continue to basically throw good money after bad. I have always said expect more or you will get less but I am turning 82 in April and just don't see any change in the results of our football program.
-
He hasn't been a factor in the last 3 games, Also our QB hasn't been as accurate as well.
-
Thanks, but look at the sports they are playing.
-
The reason for them not playing was not given. Does anyone actually know or are we just guessing as usual.

Guys, Texas Wesleyan is a small private school in Ft. Worth with 1,900 full time students. Looking at the limited number of sports they have I doubt that more that 15% of them are athletes. I guess that seems like a large percentage based upon their very small enrollment but this is not a "jock" school.

Are you sure you are talking about Texas Wesleyan in Ft. Worth? Isn't is a D2 school?
