B.S. You don't know that. It's just a guess. My freshman year was 1961, I was the vice president of a major fraternity, and neither that or either of our opinions means jack. Historically , with some exceptions, we have had an underfunded athletic department that put out a poor product in both football and men's basketball. For some reason[ which I can't explain],even after spending 10's of millions of dollars on bricks and sticks for the football program and increasing our athletic budget by million's of dollars we still put our a poor product. It's become difficult for those of us who have financially supported UNT athletics to the best of our financial ability, for years if not decades, to continue to basically throw good money after bad. I have always said expect more or you will get less but I am turning 82 in April and just don't see any change in the results of our football program.

He hasn't been a factor in the last 3 games, Also our QB hasn't been as accurate as well.
-
Thanks, but look at the sports they are playing.
-
The reason for them not playing was not given. Does anyone actually know or are we just guessing as usual.

Guys, Texas Wesleyan is a small private school in Ft. Worth with 1,900 full time students. Looking at the limited number of sports they have I doubt that more that 15% of them are athletes. I guess that seems like a large percentage based upon their very small enrollment but this is not a "jock" school.

Are you sure you are talking about Texas Wesleyan in Ft. Worth? Isn't is a D2 school?

ECU started off slow but is playing good ball now. UNT of the other hand is going the opposite direction. We should of won the Army game and loosing to UTSA was a slap in the face.

Get ready for this when Eric gets canned

He shouldn't get fired anytime soon. This is just his 2nd year. We should, in my opinion, give him at least 3 years.- 16 replies

ECU's offense looks to me like a mirror image of UTSA.
-
I do too, but wouldn't return even if David Anderson provided round trip transportation from the nearest bar.
-
So where are you guys predicted to go? Home?
-
Actually I saw UNT vs Texas State predicted in New Mexico Bowl. If we are 6&6 its probable Frisco. If 7&5 we might have another choice.

So if you were AD for a day which P4 regional program could you bring in? Hard to get the big boys in Texas to play in a 30,000 seat road game. SMU and TCU will never play us again and Houston has moved on. Looks like Texas State , Sam Houston, UTEP, New Mexico St.,Ark. St., ULL, and La. Tech are regional programs that might draw more fans than flies so sign them up.

Odus Mitchell - What Exactly are Too High Standards at UNT?
wardly replied to Meangreen Fight's topic in Mean Green Football
We have only had 4 coaches [I missed Jack Sisco] since 1913 out of a total of 18 who exited North Texas with winning records, Hayden Fry being the last in 1978. Goals and objectives must be realistic and obtainable with a little pie in the sky. Quite honestly I have no idea what we our standard should be, only what it has become . However, expect more are you will get less ,which seems to be the norm for our football program. -
I certainly am not making excuses for the termination of Caponi and agree that it was overdue. However I am surprised that our AD and not HC was the one who reportedly pulled the trigger. I owned a medical device sales agency for 30 years and can testify that no one like firing an employee. In fact those who do , unless its a really egregious act, usually wait longer than the should because the real mistake was made by you in hiring them in the first place. Having said that I have never terminated an employ that didn't expect it and in most cases were relieved that the ax finally dropped.

Well Army rarely passes so it made sense to use a 4 man front. We just don't have enough good players on defense so I expect ECU to pick up where UTSA left off.

Why Support this Program?….Seriously!?

At that time Howard Schlenburg [sic] was coaching FAU and had good teams. I don't remember much about Troy. -

Helwig had Dickey playing 3 or 4 money games a year which skews his record. Coach Jake refused doing the same in basketball and was fired. -

Going back to 1913, only Fouts,Mitchell, and Fry had winning records. -
Yes it does. Looked better closer up.
-
I agree! However our option was to either drop to 1AA or drop football, and the decision could have gone either way. Thanks for the history lesson regarding the usage of "Mean Green" as a universal nickname long before I was aware of it. Your input is much appreciated!

Did basketball team go by "Mean Green" or"Eagle" when they wore the worm on their shirts?

I was smoking, ashes fell on jacket and the rest is history. I still use the paper weight but evidently don't pay attention to the engraving.
