MGB: 5 steps UNT needs to take to improve
Travis replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Honestly, i think we just don't have the money to buy out his contract... even a years worth. We just don't have the funds... because, north texas. -
This is a train wreck. There really is only one viable option. Sadly, it doesn't look like it will be done. How do these people still have jobs?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!!?!? UNT, you could have paid me half the price RV does and I could give you those same exact results. I am far more a bargain.

Dodge really couldn't 'sling' it. he was never the same after hurting his shoulder in high school.
-
Is it though? Brett seems to get a good feel on things. While said as speculation, that doesn't mean there isn't evidence pointing toward this.

We are an effing joke if we retain him. Consider how bad recruiting will be next year if we are just as much a joke next year. I feel bad for any coach following this. And suppose he does hit just .500 next year. What do we extend his contract to then? If he was 17-15, do we give him an extension?! This is ridiculous. I am at the point of so many where walking away until we get new, real leadership is likely the best for my leisure pursuits. I can't take much more of this shit show.

What will it take for a leadership change
Travis replied to GrandGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
A change would be nice. I have no confidence RV can get us out of this mess. -
I recall RV saying that Benford HAD to win to keep his job this past year. We will see if he is true to his word. I swear, if I hear something about letting him stay because of Keith... I am going to lose it.

I am not surprised.

I have absolutely no idea what the last paragraph was trying to say. I feel dumber reading that.

I want to so badly entertain this post. But we have a horrible AD who will likely retain our current coach. No hope!
-
I guess the other 11 couldn't make it last night.

You must have forgot about the Dickey years...

Rick made it his responsibility when he made that promise to everyone in the media. Hell, I was in student affairs when the stadium campaign was going on. I sat in his office with 5 others when he echoed what he said in the papers, and he told us that he was going to have concerts that rivaled the best in the metroplex. He was trying to sell the stadium to the kids to get it voted on. Once he got the stadium secured, he no longer felt the need to make good on his promises to the kids. You may not care, but it is sleezy. It wouldn't be such a big deal unless you measured that up with all the many other things that just prove that this isn't a good situation. Hell, the bio alone sounds sleezy. We play some serious spin game in our AD.

Mark, I like you a lot buddy. You are a great guy and a good athletic supporter. :) But, you have to admit this is kind of shady if this is what RV meant by the big concerts at Apogee, lest your bias blinds. And if this is what RV thinks as being adequate as his promised concerts, then we might disagree on what we see as successful. Or what is really a concert.

Not us, I am quite sure. -
Rice Inks $3.5 Million 3 Game Deal w/Texas
Travis replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Clearly we would all prefer 1 and 1 games and all our games to be played in Apogee. Who would be against that?!? But our AD has clearly said that he will whore out the football team for the department to get paid. He isn't moving from that. So this kind of deal is the best case scenario that we can get out of an AD that we have. But, even with that, I know there isn't any way this would happen. We don't have a decent scheduler. We are more content with multiple 5 home game seasons and getting people here at home that no one has ever heard of or cared about. Let's keep going with that strategy! -

Travis replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Correct, Rice not Houston. Sorry but if we are already whoring ourselves out, this kind of deal is the best situation for us. I still think their AD is smarter to negotiate something like this than ours has come up with. -

Any time a major P5 team is willing to pay you 3.5 mill for a 2 and 1 it makes no sense not to take it when it means you are only going to play a few miles away from your campus. If Oklahoma came calling for the same deal and we had to play one of those in Arlington? You better believe I would do that in a heart beat. We can buy the smaller teams to come in as we already are to balance the schedule... But this would still be a no brainier. And as of right now, Texas wouldn't hand Houstons ass to them... -

Wow I could go for 2-1's like this ANY DAY! Oh to have an AD who gets shit done. -
