Another "to-do" for Jared - Get rid of Learfield
Travis replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I truly hate us using learfield. -
Wow that seemed like one of the tougher, physical games I have seen in quite some time.
-
If Huntsberry can hit any of his wide open shots then it would be a much different ballgame.

Nah, it isn't about seeding. Only half the times we have been there did we have teams that were actually highly seeded. 2004 - Texas - highly ranked. We were never a threat 2005 SMU - not highly seeded. Should have been a winnable game. Beat us 3-0. We were never a threat. They lost the next round 4-2 to aTm. A team that was ranked. 2012 Texas Tech - not highly seeded all. Should have been the most winnable of all the tournament games we have played in. In fact it was their first tournament to be in. lost 2-0. Never a threat in that game. Lost the next game to Florida State in OT to a team that was ranked. 2015 Texas Tech - ok ranked I guess. Better than 2012. Was tied for 4th in the Big 12. Beat us by 1. We didn’t even get one shot off that game. They went on to lose the next round to an actual high seed team. It didn't matter the seed. The results were always the same. We were never a threat and it is because of the way we play.

Listen here bucko, this yoke is heavy but if putting the team on my shoulders is what gets us to the finish line then that is what must be done. I am the hero gomeangreen deserves, but not the one it needs right now. Plus, I do it for the kids. All ten of them.

You are correct. I am talking about Marin. She was the only true striker I believe we have had. Holden was a good forward. We were fortunate to have a player like her.
-
No. I don’t. Why would I? Never claimed I did either. I have a clue about the games I saw them. And while they did press their players high and were direct a lot more. They were still dominate with a possession and better movement. What I do know is year after year I make the same ‘bold’ prediction on this board come tournament time and year after year I am proved a prophet. Check the past on the athletics board. It ain’t no secret. I’d love to be wrong on this. I’d gladly be wrong. It’s too great a burden to be right on this all the damn time. But it is a cross I will gladly take… for the sake of the peoples. Our style of play never translates well on that stage. We don’t have the players and it is the easiest to defend. Every tournament game we have played in, and I mean everyone… we shell our midfield to support our d, abandon proper runs and try to send the long through ball to a waiting forward or two who has a MASSIVE gap between them and a slow moving slow building midfield which leaves these forwards on an island giving them no real threat or opportunity. And surprise surprise we don’t even get a shot off all game. Meanwhile they just set their backs back a bit more keep winning balls or dispossessing our girls that are on said island and reloading over and over again. It never works but it is our style. Especially in those games.

The three games I saw from Arkansas they were anything but long ball. They possessed well. Built up and made creative runs while controlling much of the game. 🤷🏻♂️

This makes no sense. And, GM still won post season games. So it makes doubly no sense.
-
No you wouldn’t. Just like I wouldn’t fire JH. But we are stuck in purgatory of never being the best (or even close to the best). But yet still having a good program. And for most of us, that is good enough.
-
Quick counter is weak. Long ball is the easiest to defend. Which is why we never even get a shot off in those games. You can’t really argue with what has happened. and for what it’s worth, we don’t really have strikers. We probably haven’t had one since 2000-2002. building from the back is what champion teams do. No teams go deep into the tournament that are just long ball style. They all get knocked out in the first round. Argue all you want, but it is what it is.
-
I totally understand why unt would never fire JH. Your post says it all. He wins. but I do understand the original poster’s sentiment. JH’s style of play is really just dirty soccer. And I don’t mean dirty as in cheap shots or anything. Soccer is called the Beautiful game but unt’s version of it is anything but. It is primarily long ball and kick ball that makes for it not being pretty. And against good teams when it matters most, we don’t do well. Which is why not only have we never won an NCAA tournament game (even against a few we should have like Tech and SMU), we looked TERRIBLE and got completely out-coached, out-athlete, out-everything in every single one of them. We keep him because in what world would you ever get rid of someone with the record he does… but we will forever and always be just the happy tournament participant and never an actual threat to win as long as we play his style of ball.

Eric Morris reaching out to Texas high schools
Travis replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Football
SL was super active in the beginning too. Let’s see if it is still the case seven years later. 🤷🏻♂️ -
I understand the need for the quotes to bolster a coach hire for our football program. I just don't so much for an AD. Especially one that no one is contesting the hire on. Just my two cents.
-
I know I know… we find something to complain about anyways and always on here and this is just another. Maybe not so much of a complaint but more of a why?! Have you guys seen the pro-Mosley Facebook posts going up on the mean green sports page from other coaches talking about he is the right guy for the job. I am curious, is there a contingent of people against the hire? Why are they sending this to validate the hire as if others aren objecting? It was just one of those things that struck odd to me and kind of pointless. If I were the guy in charge now, and especially when no one is out there challenging this hire, I wouldn’t use my marketing team to bolster my promotion. It seems needless and confusing and a bit arrogant. Just to be a bit not picky. Now bolstering the football pick seems like a necessity. We already know there are going to be people questioning the hire regardless of who is our next HC. But not our dearly beloved Mosley.

Saban wouldn’t be caught dead in a Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner.
-
You speak truth.
-
I agree. Every time I have been given a rushed job it is never quite as nice as when I am given a good job. We all need to have those kind of jobs being done the right way.
-
So many of you wouldn't have hired Sonny Dykes and it shows.
-
What drove me nuts besides the things you all mentioned above was just the undisciplined nature that seemed to be so consistent in our teams.
-
I would say yes to Harsin. Kind of a meathead and a guys guy if you know what I mean. But, his results at BSU were solid and he was a great recruiter here too. (I live in Boise so that's why I say here) Dude knows what he is doing.
-
I eat my words. Happily.
-
He isn’t getting canned. It isn’t the UNT way.
-
Agreed. It’s just not going to happen though.
-
Nothing is going to change.
