It is not only us negatives on the board that feel he should go. Just look at the crowds (or lack there of) in the stands. If it wasn't for half the crowd being ARMY we would have had yet another weak showing. Top it off, you should hear what students are saying around campus. Something must be done because the athletic department is losing support from the fan base. This is so crucial at a time we are needing the exact opposite.

Significant Improvement Offense And Defense
Travis replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
But i look at it this way... Dodges best year of drastic improvement only yielded 2 WINS!!!! hmm something aint right. -
We had some serious interest from some quality coaches the last round. We just couldn't afford them. That might be different now.
-
I don't blame RV for the hire. He tried a project. He tried to find someone for cheap. A lot of people liked the idea. It failed. Let's move on and try to find someone who can get this thing in the right direction.
-
Oh my lord... how many seasons should we give him to prove some sort of progress?? And I am not talking about just showing progess that we are moving a tad bit away from the hole he put us in. We aren't winning any more games... He is doing what we hired him for. He can't retain the players he brings in, he can't coach a complete game, he can't game manage, he doesn't teach his players how to stop making the same mistakes, he can't make correct calls. I have no doubt he can be a solid coach... but not head coach. Not now. we need someone who can really move this thing in the right direction.

Moments Of Epic Brain Lock I Can't Begin To Explain.
Travis replied to CaribbeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
With this logic, it is NEVER the coaches fault. Anything that happens in the game is squarely on the shoulders of the players. The coach selects the personel, the plays, game management, and game plan. He shouldn't be responsible for everything. Especially when there is a one time occurance. But, good lord, it has become an expectation for every game. Eventually, it falls on the coaches shoulders. After a few years, and same ol' same ol'... it falls on him. I struggle with excuses. This is the easiest schedule we have had in over 10 years. -
Many players have a lot of confidence in tune.
-
Oh, i see what you mean. yeah, he might be better at WR for this year... with the hope of him moving out next year or two. I can see that being a good thing. And, to the person who suggest that R. Dodge is as good as we have right now... We do have a player in Tune who can throw quite well beyond 20 yards.
-
no. he had 4. 3 int's and 1 fumble.
-
I don't mind seeing Riley at QB. And i certainly don't want to lose him like others may suggest. But, i don't think he should have been playing this year. At least, after the first 4 or 5 games i felt that way. I feel sorry for Meager who got benched for doing a lot less. Tune seemed to be a much better passer to compliment dunbar's ability. Sadly, we didn't have a qb this year who go connect over 20 yards.
-
My thoughts exactly. Interesting that R.Dodge gave up his common 3-5 turnovers a game. he is keeping up with his quota.

Thank you for posting this. I am not saying that the original poster is wrong... And mr. mosely certainly is entitled to his opinion. But, I have heard from players in the program that have said otherwise. Yes, we are a few plays away from 6 wins. But, we are also a few plays away from being completely winless. The "if you take away this and that" sort of thing doesn't add up because that can go the other way too. We should just count what really happens. sorry, i am one of those negative neds that is having a hard time seeing through this. I agree though that it seems that dodge is a pretty good guy that cares about the behavior off the field which I can appreciate. But, i think we can actually find someone like that plus win a few more ball games.

It Starts And Ends With The Head Coach!
Travis replied to meangreenbob's topic in Mean Green Football
What is the stat of Scoring Offense? That is one problem with Dodge's offense i thought. We move the chains but it didn't really translate into scoring. -
I remember that. Many were saying there was no way DD would get fired. When my wife sent me the message she recieved and it was confirmed I posted for all of gmg to see and there was great jubilee. People swore up and down that DD wouldn't get fired and thankfully RV pulled the trigger. Does he have the stuff to do that again?!

We couldn't match what Harbaugh was asking. And for those that want to know, my source is reliable. -

Under Bliel our D was average (i believe it was somewhere in between 50-65 in the nation) statistically speaking. Dodge came in and over night is was the worst in the nation. That can't be disputed. Niether can Dodge with the reputation of getting a lot of offensive yards that don't really translate into scores. Keeping it close was a reference to the progress we have seen this year. I never mentioned the first two years, or Dickey's last two. I still see poor game management and the inability to hold on to leads. Though, we gave up a few of those Dodge's first year here too (i.e.- ASU and SMU). If bad luck is always happening to you, maybe it isn't bad luck... maybe it is just you. I like your optimism. I want some of it. I just can't. After talking to a player or two... i find it that much more difficult to do so. -
I haven't done the number crunching. but, even with 6 more wins next year. Dodge is still the losingness coach in unt history.

Technically, Dodge walked into an average defense and made them the worst d in the nation. He came in with a bad offense and made them barely average. Just a lot of meaningless yards per game that didnt translate to points. Dodge hasn't even maintained our program, he has made it worse. Much worse. It seems that the team constantly quits on him and loses heart. Dickey needed to leave, that isn't disputed. But i see no reason to keep dodge around, especially when he does worse. Being close in the games late only to lose consistently only tells me he doesn't know how to manage a game well and finish out. We lose way to many leads late and this is just another example. I don't see this as progress, but even more of an indicator of his coaching ability. It is one thing to have this happen every now and then. But, Ohio, LA-LA, FAU, FIU, who else!? There are good coaches out there... we should pursue them. I wouldn't mind consistently being at S. Miss. level right now. Also, playing two freshman qb's was his choice. By the way, there are those on the team actually would like tune to play and believe that RD could be good, just not right now. -
You may be right... but, even though reality is matching your predictions, i still don't see how any one can justify him coming back. Others have been fired for doing A LOT less. Thusly so, freaking out is quite justifiable. I agree that we are just a (fill in the blank) away from winning the game. But, that has been our story under Dodge and I am not sure it will stop even come next season. He has to take responsiblity for bringing in the coaches, lack of DLs/DEs, etc. I would not shed a tear if we were to reassign the losingness coach in unt history.

Rick Villareal Should Not Be Allowed To Hire Our Next Hc
Travis replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
We couldn't afford Harbaugh and Fisher. They were asking for more than we could afford to pay. That is the bottom line. We wanted them but we couldn't get 'em. -
is kragthorpe on the hot seat?

I Hope Todd Dodge Can Learn Intensity At A D1 Level
Travis replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
But, we all heard the UNT pr guys talk about this team was different. They believed, they had attitude, they wanted it. This year was going to be different. Finally a team that is buying into what Dodge is selling. These players have a new sense about them. Etc... This season is the EXACT same as the ones previously. The next season will be the same. too bad we can't afford to get out of this hole. By the way, i really like TD off the field. He cares about the conduct of his boys. I like that. Unfortunately, the on field coach is quite questionable. I think we can find someone who can do both. Louisville needs to do the right thing and get rid of kragthorp... so we can get him.
