It Starts And Ends With The Head Coach!
Travis replied to meangreenbob's topic in Mean Green Football
What is the stat of Scoring Offense? That is one problem with Dodge's offense i thought. We move the chains but it didn't really translate into scoring. -
I remember that. Many were saying there was no way DD would get fired. When my wife sent me the message she recieved and it was confirmed I posted for all of gmg to see and there was great jubilee. People swore up and down that DD wouldn't get fired and thankfully RV pulled the trigger. Does he have the stuff to do that again?!

We couldn't match what Harbaugh was asking. And for those that want to know, my source is reliable. -

Under Bliel our D was average (i believe it was somewhere in between 50-65 in the nation) statistically speaking. Dodge came in and over night is was the worst in the nation. That can't be disputed. Niether can Dodge with the reputation of getting a lot of offensive yards that don't really translate into scores. Keeping it close was a reference to the progress we have seen this year. I never mentioned the first two years, or Dickey's last two. I still see poor game management and the inability to hold on to leads. Though, we gave up a few of those Dodge's first year here too (i.e.- ASU and SMU). If bad luck is always happening to you, maybe it isn't bad luck... maybe it is just you. I like your optimism. I want some of it. I just can't. After talking to a player or two... i find it that much more difficult to do so. -
I haven't done the number crunching. but, even with 6 more wins next year. Dodge is still the losingness coach in unt history.

Technically, Dodge walked into an average defense and made them the worst d in the nation. He came in with a bad offense and made them barely average. Just a lot of meaningless yards per game that didnt translate to points. Dodge hasn't even maintained our program, he has made it worse. Much worse. It seems that the team constantly quits on him and loses heart. Dickey needed to leave, that isn't disputed. But i see no reason to keep dodge around, especially when he does worse. Being close in the games late only to lose consistently only tells me he doesn't know how to manage a game well and finish out. We lose way to many leads late and this is just another example. I don't see this as progress, but even more of an indicator of his coaching ability. It is one thing to have this happen every now and then. But, Ohio, LA-LA, FAU, FIU, who else!? There are good coaches out there... we should pursue them. I wouldn't mind consistently being at S. Miss. level right now. Also, playing two freshman qb's was his choice. By the way, there are those on the team actually would like tune to play and believe that RD could be good, just not right now. -
You may be right... but, even though reality is matching your predictions, i still don't see how any one can justify him coming back. Others have been fired for doing A LOT less. Thusly so, freaking out is quite justifiable. I agree that we are just a (fill in the blank) away from winning the game. But, that has been our story under Dodge and I am not sure it will stop even come next season. He has to take responsiblity for bringing in the coaches, lack of DLs/DEs, etc. I would not shed a tear if we were to reassign the losingness coach in unt history.

Rick Villareal Should Not Be Allowed To Hire Our Next Hc
Travis replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
We couldn't afford Harbaugh and Fisher. They were asking for more than we could afford to pay. That is the bottom line. We wanted them but we couldn't get 'em. -
is kragthorpe on the hot seat?

I Hope Todd Dodge Can Learn Intensity At A D1 Level
Travis replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
But, we all heard the UNT pr guys talk about this team was different. They believed, they had attitude, they wanted it. This year was going to be different. Finally a team that is buying into what Dodge is selling. These players have a new sense about them. Etc... This season is the EXACT same as the ones previously. The next season will be the same. too bad we can't afford to get out of this hole. By the way, i really like TD off the field. He cares about the conduct of his boys. I like that. Unfortunately, the on field coach is quite questionable. I think we can find someone who can do both. Louisville needs to do the right thing and get rid of kragthorp... so we can get him. -

are you losing hope in his ability to do something with this program? -
It is the damn helmet sticker. We have been crappy ever since we started with the "north texas" in block lettering. it is time for a change. King is right that Dodge is just too damn good too let go. the only problem is the sticker. it doesn't lead us to victory and is the source of all our hurt.

You must have been livid when congress intervened with MLB's drug policy. -
Officials Blew This Game And That's Not Overreacting

I didn't just reiterate your point. The main issue is that just because they do that doesn't make the mistake of the ref invalid. -
How many times?

From the predictions thread it seemed that the majority of us expected us to go in there and compete and maybe even steal a victory.

The truth is that Dodge has made this program worse than what DD did. I thought DD was HORRIBLE... so, you can imagine what I think of Dodge's coaching ability. Dodge inherited a below average group and made them THE WORST team in the entire friggin' league. I don't give Dodge a pass because of the what-he-inherited excuse simply because he didn't at the very least match DD's product, instead made it much worse.

Yes he is... Because records lie!

We still have friction within the department (unless you mean between dodge and rv, then i have no idea), disciplinary problems, grade issues, and our program is worse than when dodge took over. We are no where near the middle of the belt and we are still at the bottom of the conference. We talk about how we have improved but I feel it more of a smoke and mirrors kinda thing. We really really sucked hard the last two years and we have improved a little bit to the point where we don't SUPER suck we only just regular suck. Because, we still lose, we still can't find a way to win and we still make really odd coaching decisions. I don't believe that this ship will be righted by those in charge right now. This is something i don't want to be right on. I would love to see dodge turn this around. My money is on him not getting it done, though. and a year more is just another of the same old junk we have been seeing. I want to be proven otherwise by our team!

I want to get kragthorp in here. I am hoping that Louisville fires him so we can get him. He would do wonders for us.

I am happy that Tune is getting another shot. especially when it isn't a team like Alabama. Hopefully he can do what he did this past saturday. I love that he can throw long. Something we don't see out of Dodge.

Officials Blew This Game And That's Not Overreacting
Travis replied to NorthTexan95's topic in Mean Green Football
this argument is weak. And, i have heard winners claim that they had lucky breaks and fortunate calls due to refs. But, that is besides the point... the point is why would they? What advantage is it as a winner to say that?! it makes no sense at all why FAU would get up there and say we were extremely lucky that the refs blew the call. It is human nature to want to boast that "we did it on our own merit!" And the losers do it also because they want to blame others but themselves. However, refs do blow calls in critical parts of the game and they can take blame when appropriate. Perhaps this is one of those times. Your argument is a fallacy. -
that is funny. i am not saying it was you but... last week a lot of people were talking about how we are going to finish most likely 6-6 or 5-7. I said it wouldn't happen then for the very reason we lost the game last night. we aren't consistent. At max, we will win 3 maybe 4.
