Your title can be misleading. It isn't so much criticism of hiring McCarney as it is the price we payed for a new coach. This is just an annoying complaint. Do I think it is unfortunate that coaches get paid ridiculous amounts while some in academia get paid next to nothing while putting in crazy hours? Sure. But, in today's world, there is a huge value on perception and this is the game we have to play. Besides, there are so many benefits to such a program. Where else will you see well over 20 thousand current and former students together to rally behind their university? It is a unifying organization that brings everyone together for a common cause. The key ingredient to connectivity

I don't know about you... but i saw improvement during with Canales. I saw us hang close to a K-state team in which we have NEVER done before. I saw clear empirical signs that we didn't need a clean break. How much more obvious could we have possible made it?!

Yeah, but, don't forget RV brought in JJ, the new volleyball coach, tennis coach, swimming, and softball. All of which have been successful turning around not so great programs. He has proven to hire quality coaches more than he has hired failed ones.

Yes, we could easily be at the top with the right coach. But, we, along with WKU, have been the doormat of the conference the past 5 years. We should give an honest assessment of how bad we really look right now.
