McCarney quote on QB play, what does it tell us?
Travis replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
So Greer can't do those things? I wasn't really seeing this as a DW or AM thing... I was seeing it as a JG or AM.... I figured-based on what I have seen last year and the year before- that Greer was going to get the nod.- 72 replies

I agree that he was the best QB option we had... I don't see how this makes him a 'great' QB. It just simply means he was the best option we had of the group of QB's on the roster.

Harry will pay the winner $10,000! Thanks Harry!

I am not sure how this year will prove anything about the QB play of last year... I do not doubt that DT was the best we had out of our QB stable. I was the best QB out of my intramural team, but that didn't make me ready for the big lights. We have a mediocre stable the past several years. And so did my intramural team. He was 'good enough'. His numbers weren't all world and most of the time we just needed a QB to play smart. Not to put the team on his shoulders. Just rely on a great defense and a good special teams. Do I think we will have a 'good enough' QB this year? I am not sure. Probably not. But, there were a lot of factors that helped DT (turnovers from a better D than we will have this year, Brelan, Byrd, Smith, a great special teams that gave us solid field position, etc.) that I am not sure we will have this year anyway. I think it is apples to oranges to compare this year to last and declare DT a saint of QB saints. Our great QB in DT couldn't even get Honorable Mention All-Conference Honors.... So others didn't really notice him either.... Am I happy he was under center to lead us to wins? sure. But, i don't think he is an unobtainable standard we have never had before.

When I read the title of this thread I got excited. And then I began to see the context and I was really disappointed.

I think it would have been cuter if we had the entire team in an on-all-fours pyramid. They would have been so darling. And, for their individual shots they should have had their heads resting on their hands (that were faced down) looking up and to the top right a little. Would have been so precious.

It’s time for a UNT tradition — Get Your Rear on the Record
Travis replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I was originally going to say 6-6 based purely on looking at what we left. But, when you look in detail to the other teams on our schedule I will now change my stance to 7-6 with a bowl game loss... if we make 7-5 bowl games will want us since we have proven we can travel pretty well. I want to be wrong and the record be like Pastorgrant's. -
If big time schools play 'lesser' schools than us, i am quite sure we can get a big time school here.

I am from the north texas area. But, now I live in Boise Idaho. It is going to be tough for me. I haven't missed a unt football game in years. Now i have to hope i can catch them on TV.

I can only purchase single game since I am on the other side of the country now. But, i want to make a game this year in person.

I have never wanted to beat Texas more than I do now.

Can there not be a lawsuit on discrimination grounds?

They might have that kind of record... but they will still take it as part of the 'haves' than be us as a 'have-not'. Baylor was quite happy being the bitch of the Big 12 the years they were the bitch of the Big 12. They didn't care to be a big fish in a smaller pond.

How is it ok for him to say this?! I hope more are speaking out against this. I find this truly outrageous

TCU to play Ohio State in a home and home
Travis replied to untjim1995's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, our AD really sucks at this. -
I predicted 6-6. But, when I continue to review the teams and the match-ups.... I think that 6-6 is really conservative. The more I look, the more I see a 7-5 or 8-4 year. I will still 6-6 because I don't want my homerism to show too strongly.

Breaking news: Former K-State OL says he's headed to UNT
Travis replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I am not sure what you mean by 'might as well sit'. It makes little sense to simply not try to play this year... He has already spent his redshirt. He would just lose a year either way. We could always use depth at that position. And a backup role is perfectly fine given the quality of line we have.- 19 replies

Where Are They Now? Former USF Coach Jim Leavitt
Travis replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It was so frustrating to see a team like this pass us by in 'speed of light' fashion. Trends do their thing and they have since came down a little from that lofty pace. But, they continue to reap the benefits of it. -
6-6. Too many questions. We had questions going into last year about how well our line would be and it turned out great. To have that answered two years in a row, extremely difficult.
