  1. What makes a song "basketball" music? Upon further review of the situation, the ASU band are nothing more cheerleaders with instruments. That doesn't make the band good. Spirited yes, good musicians, not neccessarily.....UNT has some of the best musicians in the nation and yet people critize them as not being a good band because we don't yell enough or we're not wearing the right colored shirt or something lame like that. I think this is where there is the differences lie between the "common" fanbase and the pep band and in some sense the GB. No matter what the GB or pep band does, it isn't good enough, it isn't loud enough, it isn't "spirited" enough.....I have tried to accomodate the fans by letting Mr. Williams know what songs want to be heard. And all we hear back in return is how great some other band is and that we have many different issues that we need to work on. I spent 5 years in the GB and all the while I heard that we need to be more peppy, louder, have a greater song selection and so on......It is very hard to be constantly told by people who are "on your side" to constantly tell you things to get better etc while very seldomly give compliments. This is one of the main reasons why band people are very turned off towards the common fan and alum. We don't feel appreciated because we are always told that our songs suck (ok so maybe we do need a little more variety, but don't blame that on the band, it isn't our fault, we play what we are told and do a great job doing so) So in further clarification about my last post in this thread, we got shown up by the ASU on being loud and obxnious. Otherwise the NT Pep band was better.......
  2. Yes, I am disappointed that the music selections are kinda boring. And yes, the pep band should be more enthuasiatic. But really, they are light years better than years' past. Believe it if you want. But I personally have seen the change in both the pep band and Green Brigade. And for the most part, it is a positive one. But yeah, we got shown up tonight by the ASU band. But all is not lost for the NT pep band.
  3. We will go down as having one technical but it really wasn't a technical on JB. One of the refs was having too much fun with his whistle at our expense.
  4. Now what do I do? Go to the game or rob Emmitt's bank? No, I'll be at the game. I wouldn't miss it for the world.
  5. Alright! We have a game Friday at 5:30 at the Pit!! Who all is in? I will be there for sure..... PACK THE PIT! GO MEAN GREEN! TOPPLE THE TEE PEES!!!
  6. UALR just pulled off a dramatic win over ULL 64-63. I know ULL was the top seed in the east (I think). How will this game affect next week's seedings in the tourney, if at all?
  7. What's your major? I took it yesterday or the day before. Seems interesting....
  8. Emmitt was loud enough last night for like 3 people. Emmitt, you rocked last night with your oh so endearing comments to Monte!! Let's use them again for the tourney!!!!!
  9. Well Brian, I hope that something can be worked out in the agreement!!
  10. You understand my point of the players being greedy? Your parents have been fired/laid off and been forced to scrape money up just to put a side salad on the table? I am sorry if anything I have said has offended you. But honestly, I don't care how bad the commissioner was or is, to me the whole NHL debacle came down to greed. I am still baffled that millions of dollars is still not enough. Because there are so many people who can't even buy essentials. For instance, I just want to buy a dependable car. I want to put food on the table. And right now I can't do either. So yes the debacle hit me wrong. That is why I am upset. It doesn't matter how much they are paid because they should be playing for the love of the game. But you are entitled to be a hockey fanatic. I can't take that away from you and I hope that I haven't bashed it for you. I am not an anti hockey fan (I actually want to go to a Stars game really bad) but it is their greed that turns me off (that is why I haven't been to one of my beloved Cowboy games. $40 for the cheap seats is not worth it right now). So with that being said, I said what I wanted to and got it off my chest!! Have a great weekend Brian!!
  11. I am glad that you get your hockey back.
  12. I don't care if they are the least paid professional sports players or not. They still make WAY too much. I still don't care if they decided to "give up" in the end. They are still money hungry goobers. I still don't even care that the commissioner is a so called a-hole. What it all boils down to is that the players are money hungry. Don't get me wrong, I really love sports. (Those of you who know me, know that I am a HUGE sports fan) But at the same time, this whole debacle just brought up how money hungry the professional sports players are. And I guess it is really hard to swallow right now seeing how my dad lost his job two weeks ago and we don't know how we are going to make it.
  13. When you boil down to it Rudy, GREED was the catalyst. The commissioner didn't make the players want more money. The players wanted more money, the fans didn't want to pay the extreme prices (I don't blame them) and the league doesn't have enough to pay for the high ludicrous salaries of the players. I am sorry, no one no matter how talented they are (and doesn't matter what sport they play either) do not deserve that much money. Yes, athletes work very very hard to keep in shape etc. Yes they deserve to make some decent money for their work. There are starving people in the third world countries. There are people who can't afford college. But when you are making millions of dollars and that isn't enough for you, I am sorry. THAT IS GREED!!!!!!!!! Take it for what it is worth. BUT THAT IS GREEDY!! I am sorry I see things differently. But my parents are living off about $10,000 a year. We are scraping up money for food. So I am very upset that the players want that much money. Especially with my situation at home....
  14. Monday is one of the days that many students take a night class. I know I missed the game on Monday not because I had this hot date or had to go to work. But I was in ACCT 5320 taking notes. Yes, many students don't like basketball but their are other reasons why people didn't show up on Monday.
  15. Actually Fly Like an Eagle is not played as much as before. (Trust me, it's not!) And also trust me on the fact that Fly Like an Eagle is a MILLION times worse playing it than listening to it. Trust me........
  16. Hey CO Green. Thanks for the clarification. I wish we could start like a scholarship fund for you guys. Even if we can't afford to give out full scholarships, I think anything would help and maybe get you guys out to games more. But you guys have been great over there and very loud. For 4 or 5 people you guys sound like 10. Keep up the good work guys. You make me proud.
  17. Hey CO Green. I know you clarified a lot last year on the cheerleader stuff, but can you reclarify again on some stuff? Ok it was mentioned before that the cheerleaders need to have jobs to pay for school and other bills. Understandable, everyone can use the money. But what I find odd is that all the cheerleaders can suddenly find the time and get the time off from work to attend football games (you would need practically the entire afternoon off to do the Mean Green March and then set up for the game) but you can't take two nights off from work to go to a basketball game? And even on Thursdays and Saturdays you can work during the day and then get off of work at say 5:30 to make it. Night classes might pose a problem because you can't skip those, but why can't the cheerleaders make just as good of an effort to come to basketball games as they do football games? Sure, more people like football, but you are to support your teams as a cheerleader (as well as a common fan, I am not trying to point a finger at you guys) no matter what the sport. So would it be a big thing to have ALL of the cheerleaders there with the only exception being if you have a night class on Thursdays? Because it sure is nice to see games on TV and they have their ENTIRE squad on the court cheering. But don't get me wrong either. I love the ones that come out. Y'all have been great.
  18. I have never felt so horrible about a loss before. It has taken the wind out of my sails. Our guys fought until about the last 5-7 minutes. Tough tough loss.......
  19. I'll be there!!!
  20. Why does V-Day have to be about the couples????? What happened to us single people????
  21. I think CO Green said last basketball season that the cheerleaders are not on scholarship and need a job to help pay for school. While I agree that school is getting expensive and that the cheerleaders should be given some sort of monetary compensation to help out with expenses, I think that they should make a more of an effort to make it to the games. It is bad to see 3-4 cheerleaders there when we could have about 10-12 there easy!! And the people on the squad should be on the squad to be a cheerleader first and a competitor second. I am not trying to knock the accomplishments of winning 3 National Championships (y'all are awesome), but the reason why a school has cheerleaders is to LEAD CHEERS!!! On a different note, I think instead of pointing the finger at the cheeleaders and say, "Be there" (which would no doubt piss them off) why don't we present it to RV that the cheerleaders have a "Scholarship Fund" set aside just for cheerleaders? And we, as fans and supporters, can donate money to the fund and help cover some of their schooling so they can afford to take off on Thursdays and Saturdays for games. Plus the cheerleaders won't be mad at us for pointing the finger at them and accuse them of not being there, etc!!
  22. Utterly ridiculous!! I understand WKU is fairly decent at BB but COME ON!!
  23. I have an idea for a sign for the WKU game but I don't think it is board material. If you wanna know what it is, PM me.
  24. Who all is going? I plan on being there. The only thing that would keep me from it is whether or not I get my school done enough to go. But as of right now, I will be there in the front row of the Pit Crew!!!!
  25. There is a couch that is set up and as students come in you can enter to sit on the couch and watch the game and eat a free pizza and water...I won it tonight!
