some good perspectives, Harry. thanks UTEP lost to Memphis today due to a couple late interceptions thrown by Palmer. Didn't help that the Miners turned th ball over 4 times inside Memphis's 25. I really don't know what to make of UTEP at this point after tonight's loss. Memphis lost to Tulsa, Tulsa lost to Houston, and Houston lost to UTEP! What a merry-go-round this game can be! All games involving us (UNT) and the teams mentioned above have been decided by CRITICAL qb play. I hope UNT can find that "click" in Meager or Phillips. Perhaps Dickey and Co can learn something from tonight's Memphis win: they did it with their 3rd and 4th string qbs at the helm. To Memphis' advantage: they have MUCH better play in the trenches than we can claim as of this point. -gm

Your worst nightmare experience in class
greenminer replied to eulesseagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I knew a few TAMS alumni: they were/are mental cases. "serious to the next level" does not apply to them, as they are in their 6+ year of undergrad, too lazy to go to class, and don't know how to handle their money worth a darn. They were just people that ALWAYS seem to have a problem: sleep, family, money, relationships, etc...everything was wrong. That's just my experience with them (TAMS). Can Cool Beans be considered a class experience? I got kicked outta that one on my 23rd How about a Music History TA that was one year removed from Taiwan, and was learning 'Engrish' as we went along. I swear half the people that failed that class wouldn't have if there was an English prof. Nice girl though I can't think of any college disasters right now; just countless hours of nodding off from sleep deprivation. I'm sure there are some in the back of my mind, and I'll post it later if this thread hasn't died. -
"Eagle 96" kinda creepy: I believe that's the Dickey audible for a draw on 3rd and 96. Got my degree in General Music w/all the credit hours of a Music Ed major, without the certification. Currently a student at UT-El Paso pursuing MM in Piano Performance.

I was at that game. Jamel took a screen something like 31 yards on the first play (I'm pretty sure it wasn't 60, but it sure seemed like a miracle). We got that first field goal and I turned up to the sea of OU above us (Green Brigade) and screamed "WE HAVE A LEAD! WE HAD A LEAD ON OU!!!!" You know what also blew me away in that game? Hall was playing roadrunner to OU's coyote all night and made some amazingly evasive moves when the pocket broke down on several occasions. He blew me away. I knew we had something special in him. Moving right along, I'm going to suport Meager AND Phillips in this learning process; I hope this offense, especially the O-line, rights their ship and give us something to look forward to. -gm

Just curious what does Mike Price at UTEP make?
greenminer replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't remember the exact numbers for Price. I could be wrong, but I want to say he gets a dollar for every ticket sold and something like another 10 bucks for each season ticket. I also saw him doing a commercial for a local car dealership (a Hummer was in it)... I imagine there's TONS of perks for this guy. The city practically worships him. We might sell out the rest of the way. That's 52K+ people/game. -
T's for.....THE TRUTH...and for Tennessee too
greenminer replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
No worries, Nation: we have 5 mini-Ditkas--driving buses for that matter--just waiting for Dickey to put them on the field to take over. Them Tigers don't stand a lick against us. THATMAKESABAKERSDOZEN -gm back to my asylum kthanksbuhbye -
So tell me, Mr. Bill Lumbergh, exactly how much time dooo you spend on those TPS reports? *cough* well... *cough* Did you get the memo?

I wasn't a UNT fan back then, so I can't speak for what it was like. But I thought my own (and probably many others on this board) CURRENT schema my demonstrate my argument against that absurd statement (is it absurd? maybe I'm wrong) If you asked me or any of my crazy football nut friends that we are to name ANY 1-AA playoff team from ANY recent year, I'd give you a blank stare. Maybe those years were special to you, but they were probably a blip to everyone else. And FWIW, the "fake" conference runs and "fake" bowls are what made me a REAL Mean Green fan. Quite frankly, I take that as a shot in the face against the green that runs in my blood. -gm

I'm not going to sit here and read about a change in that game plan. There is no problem with this "game plan". You do things two ways in football: you either run to set up the pass, or you pass to set up the run; both work when you have lines that take care of business in the trenches and a QB that can stretch the field. Isnt' THAT the problem? If Dickey figures out how to beat people in the trenches and then wave the magic wand that gives Meager an arm, suddenly his game plan will be fine.
-
Who said they were "lightly regarded"? Every publication I read had them as the "sleeper" in Conference USA: easily UTEP's best opponent in the West and possibly overall. After tonight, UAB is the only one that truely worries me, and we get them in the Sun Bowl. I'll be watching Memphis/Tulsa the rest of the way with special interest after their game tonight. Not quite sure what to take of it yet.

I thought we were in this Belt battle together? Talk about beating a dead horse Your words are nothing new to us: we'd love nothing more than to raise that symbollic "Sun Belt flag" a little higher every time we step on the field to represent. While we have always mourned the losses (and cheered for the wins) of nearly every Belt team in the last 4 years-- it is absurd, self-centered comments like your's here from the MUTS that continue to make you the exception to those feelings.

Ark St over FIU in the 2nd: 35-14 LaMo over FAU 28-21 final other games are starting later and are OOC opponents. Quinn just scored from Phillips: yay we scored *edit*: yay we scored, and it was the offense that did it

Finally - Green Grenade's Model is revealed
greenminer replied to stebo's topic in Mean Green Football
I think I see Dickey in there calling a draw on 3rd and long...on his way to another Belt championship. -
Game prep discussion on strategy:

If it's any consolation, you can argue it's all relative right? UCLA over UTEXAS Tulsa over UNT oops

If JaMario is hurt why doesnt anyone come out
greenminer replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Football
isn't that a greyshirt? Or maybe the grey has to do with academics and not health. I'll look it up later. gtg, -gm -
Just to take our philosophy a step further: We're built on the run, right? Passing to catch up in a blowout isn't exactly what this offense counts on. When other Belt teams are down, they've had their passing game a little ahead of ours at the early goings of a season to at least fling it around hoping for a score late in these OOC games. Meanwhile, we go down 45-2 and run draws on third and long. Just a thought

PHEW! only 80...

Let's Get It Out of Our System/Then Let's Regroup!
greenminer replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Sorry, yoiu didn't answer my question: SMU's new stadium got them an invite to CUSA; so then what? They got blasted last night by A&M....one week after a "pretty" win over TCU. I don't see it any different than our random, once-in-20-tries, wins over Tech or Baylor. I'm not buying into the better recruits argument. We have better recruits than we did 3 years ago; and, you know what, I believe the 2002 team would have won last night. The stadium WILL bring the standard up fro recruits, but last night the problem seemed deeper than that. The closest, most logical disection of last night (to me) is FFR's. For the first time in 4+ years, with NO possiblity of overstating this, we have ZERO threat to stretch opposing defenses. Here's hoping they get this together and put up a fight against KSt. -gm PS: is anyone else seeing some parallels between now and the 2001 start?
