Phil Steele crams so much info onto their pages (nvm the small type), that I wonder how long it takes for him to cycle through all 119 (? is that the correct #?) D-1 teams before he gets back to #1. Who's to say how long ago it was that he last evaluated UNT? He's got some kind of formula that helps him predict titles/championships on conference and national levels at an admirable success rate, but sometimes I question if there are holes in it that make for these "interesting" evaluations. I got the mag this year, and I think this may be the last. -gm

I know that professors that teach members of the women's v-ball team receive requests to submit academic progress reports to the athletic department (can't remember the name of the person that signs off the cover letter to these requests) so that they can better keep tabs with their grades....thus: eligibility status. I have no clue if this process is followed for other student-athletes, but I can't fathom DD and his staff choosing not to follow the same steps to ensure they know their players' status. -gm

I think a bigger problem will be how his I'm-bigger-than-the-world attitude affects the chemistry of the program. nothing can destroy a team like a big mouth...especially his. -gm

Not very often that BOTH rb positions on a publications all-conference team come from the same backfield. Not even USC's RB behind Bush (Lendale White, I think) occupies their all Pac-10 team next to Reggie. Good to be Green. -gm

Darrell Dickey academically ineligible
greenminer replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
I can't confirm with my sources: they became academically ineligible. -
Texas, in my experience (which is limited, granted), is one of the few states where you could drive up to any station and have to drop a quarter into the pumps that dispense air for your tires, or water through similar tubing. Why should you have to pay for air? Yeah, we're used to cheaper gas prices. But imagine if it weren't subsidized? What if you lived in Europe? Would 2.07/gallon seem so bad then? -gm

It's July 9th....Are You Ready for Football?

Can I get a subscription to the Green Grenade 2 report? I don't ever plan on missing this guy's stuff. -
I'm no football expert, but I would for once give them the benefit of the doubt and think they are aware of how their schemes matchup. Sometimes a team and their gameplan works well against another. Maybe they see something that OU has that will work against the Aggies, but not against UT. -gm

"Beat the BCS in Baton Rouge Sept. 3rd!!!"
greenminer replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Does anybody remember the analysis of teh secondary during spring drills? I seem to recall, whomever it was, saying that the dbs were MUCH quicker to the ball than last year. If they're going to show significant improvement, and I am thinking they will, then things will be "better" than a lot of you are making it out to be. I'm not getting dilusional about our BR trip, but I'm over the UT game and ready to wear my green goggles once again! -gm -
I hope he figures things out. -gm

Lance Armstrong at it again.....
greenminer replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I read somewhere that, even considering his previous 6 wins, this is his best team ever. -gm -

2004 attendance averages-Non BCS Conferences
greenminer replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
The irony of the WAC's drop in attendance is UTEP's massive turnaround (in attendance, not record). The other WAC teams must've stunk a big one in that area for it to drop like that. -gm -
But wasn't he their incumbent QB, who was doing really well? Maybe I'm remembering wrong. -gm

Wow. I never knew that. Interesting post to say the least. -gm

Who Will NORTH TEXAS Beat By The Largest Margin
greenminer replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Who was heading our administration then? I just look around at the examples we've mentioned and have to make a connection: the wins, IMO, CAN help big-time towards funding/exposure/etc, but those that have done it had an administration that was aggressive enough to capitalize on them. I wonder were good ol' RV would do if we actually went into TIger Stadium and won, and then went on to another SB title. I bet it would make his day. I'm so glad we have him. -gm -
Who Will NORTH TEXAS Beat By The Largest Margin

I'm with you all the way on the facilities, PMG; but please elaborate on your "research" regarding the Big Wins over Big Boy U and their effect. Even a strong showing does wonders (I think) for some, not a lot mind you, national respect. 4 straight NO Bowl appearances is a lot to be proud of, but two straight whoopings and people are still looking at us as "Sun Belt Kings". 3 straight 2-win seasons, but a recent 8 win and close showing against Colorado has UTEP soaring much faster than we are (believe me: I'm torn on this issue). The facilities have been there all along for UTEP; it's the wins/showings over those "big boy u's" such as last year's UTEP team that could REALLY help us. Perhaps there are a few major doners out there waiting to see Dickey get that win that would validate UNT's claim to high standards. After their late success, the media didn't seem to care about week 1's 41-9 loss to AzSt. What do you have to say about Fresno St and Boise St's media attention? I think their 1 or 2 wins over the big boys each season does wonders for their image/exposure. Many years ago a man named Bowden took that attitude at Florida St and he seems to have himself something going. Just playing a little devil's advocate, -gm -
I have really bad news...I am not eligible...
greenminer replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
UNT Green Brigade @ OU in '01: an orange street cone was thrown from the stands and hit a band member. Fan was located and ejected. Despite a strong showing from the 80K fans, Green Brigade won 14-7. You could elaborate on your OU story and nothing would suprise me. -gm -

Ktulu: how about a little insight on your team? Seems like many say this is a very down year for you guys, but some publications (including SportingNews) have you guys as high as #3 in the WAC...that tells me there are a lot of "what ifs". Perhaps you can shed some light on this, because there doesn't seem to be anybody else from the Tech board interested in saying anything outside of sophomoric name calling and swears. Everyone's heard about our QB situation and the RB duo we have; what's the scoop on you guys: Key players (I keep reading about a great LB) What's going to happen w/o Moats? How has your 3-4 scheme faired against running games similar to ours? thanks buddy, -gm -
great thread, btw.

No question that when I visit Denton, I have to visit these places: Hooya Mr. Chopsticks Sweetwater Hooters was another great place for their beer/wings, but I wanted to stick with answers that are unique to Denton (in my experience; not sure if there are other Hooyas/SW's). -gm
