Who Will NORTH TEXAS Beat By The Largest Margin
greenminer replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Who was heading our administration then? I just look around at the examples we've mentioned and have to make a connection: the wins, IMO, CAN help big-time towards funding/exposure/etc, but those that have done it had an administration that was aggressive enough to capitalize on them. I wonder were good ol' RV would do if we actually went into TIger Stadium and won, and then went on to another SB title. I bet it would make his day. I'm so glad we have him. -gm -

I'm with you all the way on the facilities, PMG; but please elaborate on your "research" regarding the Big Wins over Big Boy U and their effect. Even a strong showing does wonders (I think) for some, not a lot mind you, national respect. 4 straight NO Bowl appearances is a lot to be proud of, but two straight whoopings and people are still looking at us as "Sun Belt Kings". 3 straight 2-win seasons, but a recent 8 win and close showing against Colorado has UTEP soaring much faster than we are (believe me: I'm torn on this issue). The facilities have been there all along for UTEP; it's the wins/showings over those "big boy u's" such as last year's UTEP team that could REALLY help us. Perhaps there are a few major doners out there waiting to see Dickey get that win that would validate UNT's claim to high standards. After their late success, the media didn't seem to care about week 1's 41-9 loss to AzSt. What do you have to say about Fresno St and Boise St's media attention? I think their 1 or 2 wins over the big boys each season does wonders for their image/exposure. Many years ago a man named Bowden took that attitude at Florida St and he seems to have himself something going. Just playing a little devil's advocate, -gm -
I have really bad news...I am not eligible...

UNT Green Brigade @ OU in '01: an orange street cone was thrown from the stands and hit a band member. Fan was located and ejected. Despite a strong showing from the 80K fans, Green Brigade won 14-7. You could elaborate on your OU story and nothing would suprise me. -gm -

Ktulu: how about a little insight on your team? Seems like many say this is a very down year for you guys, but some publications (including SportingNews) have you guys as high as #3 in the WAC...that tells me there are a lot of "what ifs". Perhaps you can shed some light on this, because there doesn't seem to be anybody else from the Tech board interested in saying anything outside of sophomoric name calling and swears. Everyone's heard about our QB situation and the RB duo we have; what's the scoop on you guys: Key players (I keep reading about a great LB) What's going to happen w/o Moats? How has your 3-4 scheme faired against running games similar to ours? thanks buddy, -gm -
great thread, btw.

No question that when I visit Denton, I have to visit these places: Hooya Mr. Chopsticks Sweetwater Hooters was another great place for their beer/wings, but I wanted to stick with answers that are unique to Denton (in my experience; not sure if there are other Hooyas/SW's). -gm

I'll take it w/a grain of salt, but have we ever been ranked this low in overall D?

True, Baby Arm: we would love to have fans similar to what ND can claim. But even a Notre Dame subway fan would be put in his place if asked where they graduated from. I think'd it be funny to find that ND subway fan who graduated from, say, U of Tennessee that has only a small UT flag hanging from their wall surrounded by TONS of ND paraphernalia. If it were me, I'd feel a little awkward defending myself if some observer brought that up. -gm

I was perusing the NCAA records here: http://www.ncaa.org/library/records/footba...all_records.pdf and noticed on the 24th page a couple team stats held by Tech: in 2003 vs. Iowa St they set the single-game record for most offensive plays with 111. in 1939 vs. Centenary they set the single-game record for FEWEST offensive plays with just TWELVE. Both records still stand, obviously

Who Is The Greatest Non NT College Running Back
greenminer replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I voted for LT...two reasons: I haven't seen many of the others play. I saw him several times, including when he shredded UTEP for 400+ yards in a single game. I never saw him (at the collegiate level) get caught from behind; he is so strong that he'd just swat would-be tacklers off his back. It really is kind of cool to me to see him succeed like he has in the NFL. I saw Benson play in the UNT game where he had something like 49 yards TOTAL. I know he did very well the second go-around with us, however. I just didn't see anything so spectacular about him. -

Kassell symbolizes defense'stoughness
greenminer replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I looked up Kassel's stuff on ESPN and found this. You can see how he REALLY came on towards the end of the season. He is such a great story. In fact, many UNT players, either current students, former, or NFLers make for great stories. ***chest swells with pride*** -gm -
Is that what they've been saying all this time? how komical

There are many aspects of the English alphabet that make our language very paradoxical. It's no secret that our language is very hard to learn for foreigners. C is one of them, and I believe we can attribute its longetivity to the Italian influence on our language. Just go to an Italian resturaunt, look at the menu and see all the different ways you can thank them for the use of C. A more recent example that I can't get out of my head is the latest Jack-in-the-Box commercial for the Ciabatta Sandwich. For those of you who haven't seen it (pretty funny clip), it's pronounced chuh-bah-duh, with all short-sounding vowels and the accent given to the "bah" part. -gm
