Boise State..national/co-national Champions!
greenminer replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I think another important lesson to be taken from this game is to dismiss the idea that a gimmick offense isn't going to work. Stoops said it best about the 2 point conversion that Boise St used to finish them off: something to the effect of "They simply executed it so well." Call it gimmick, call it high school, call it what you will; but Peterson has them executing that offense to perfection, has the city believing in the program, and the players knowing they can beat anybody. -gm -
Dodge Has Had Hectic Last Two Weeks
greenminer replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
If so, it wouldn't suprise me. Our fellow "metroplexers" offer a close-by drive that is advantageous for every fan wanting to see the game. If you're going to argue that TCU faces a tough situation with no conference foe within a (Dr. Evil comin up) billion miles - and they can - then they can't ignore the advantages that playing their neighbors would help ease the uphill battle; that is, getting butts into Amon Carter. Moving east to the Hill: now that Bennett has things on the upswing, how do their attendance numbers compare to TCU's? -gm -
Check out the mighty CUSA, sittin' cozy at 0-4. -gm

Administrative Services Clerk for the International Boundary and Water Commission in El Paso, TX. Just a temp, archiving every letter that's ever gone in and out of the agency. Great job while I finish my grad work here. Every ounce of me misses Denton. I'll be back to the big or little D someday.

Some of you may think I'm completely off base, but I'm seeing some comparisons between Riley and Scott Hall. UNT was the only school that was interested in Scott as a QB, as others thought his arm wasn't strong enough, his accuracy wasn't "pin-point enough" (is that a real term?), and just basically didn't have what it takes. But time and again, Riley has proven he just gets it done. I agree with the ball-carrying flaw: he repeatedly ran with the ball tucked under the arm closest to the defender. But that can be quickly and easily corrected. He could stand to bulk up a bit once he gets to college, but I see Riley as being a success...especially if he comes here. Having said that, I'm still under the belief that the best players should earn their positions, and if someone else i.e. Wilson beats him out, then Wilson gets the job. I like Riley, because he "gets it done". Not necessarily because of his relation to Todd Dodge. NEW SUBJECT: Anyone else watching Chase Daniel, former TD quarterback and two-time 5A player of the year, play in the Sun Bowl? This kid is just a frosh, and is looking damn good. It excites me to know that he is a product of SLC/TD. -gm

+6? Not sure what you're looking for here. If it's about running up the score, the Cal coach looked like he was in the player's face after the TD. When the coaches met midfield, the announcers said Fran handled it professionally, not pointing fingers and all. Hmmm...every time I see TD, regardless of context, I think Todd Dodge first. this could be weird. "So, how many Todd Dodges did Cal lay on the Ags?" -gm

My opinion is of the opposite. My class had a chance to be a part of the selection process for my high school's colors/mascot, and they had a big presentation/voting process complete with a marketing expert talking about the goods/bads of some of the animals. I very clearly remembering him stating, and I agree, that the Eagle is one of the hardest mascots to deal with because of limited marketing options. It's been, like, 13 years since then but the gist of that meant that all Eagles look pretty much the same, and it is one of the harder mascots to work new/original slogans and catch-phrases with. I'm not saying we should abandon the Eagles, I love our affiliation with it and Scrappy, and am proud of it. But I think the call "Mean Green" provides many options that are unique to UNT; and I'm not ashamed or disgusted by it at all, unlike many of you have said previously. I just don't see any weird/negative connotations with the call of the Mean Green. ...in fact, I think it's hands down better than the Elephant/Crimson Tide duo that Alabama has. To one-up them on the mascot side, I don't think the "Elephant" has nearly the intimidation/presence compared to the Eagle. Keep 'm both! -gm

So Far, Is This The Worst Bowl Season In A While?
greenminer replied to Eagle1855's topic in Mean Green Football
Rice SHOULDA killed Troy, right? proves your point: anything can happen. I'm keeping an eye out on several teams during the bowl season just for the sake of being a college football fan. I'm looking foward to see how a couple teams continue to fair, including Rutgers, Wester VA, and Louisville outta the BE. The ACC bores me. Intriguing: The UF/OSU title game, and the Rose Bowl. How will USC respond after blowing a title game opportunity against UCLA? How does Michigan respond to the snuff? Personally, I love the matchups of these titans of the football world. A Florida win would be awesome. Oh! And LSU? Who are they playing? I think they're as good as anyone in the country right now. bah, I'm rambling. Back to work... -gm -
 I got a Kurzweill SP88X keyboard to replace my old PC88mx that tanked on me 6-8 weeks ago. It's used, but I didn't have much of a budget to work with and needed something so I could gig again. At half the price now compared to what I paid for my PC88 7 years ago, it's got better base sounds and a slightly different feel. My, my, the wonders of technology. -gm

"...unt(coaching Job) A Demotion....

how fitting Makes me wonder if these are gibes at UNT, or college in general. Would she be saying the same things if they fired Bennet and took Dodge at SMU? -gm -
Southlake Carroll V. Austin Westlake On Fsn Now!
greenminer replied to CaribbeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
meh. not really. -gm -
Geezie Chreezie! ...those Westlake players seemed like they had 4 inches on SLC across the field. Especially the skill positions? How about that Tre Newton 74 yard run?!? Riley's a gutsy player, really "leaving it on the field" per se. Seemed like once Carroll got the ball rolling towards the end of the 1st half, they were so focused that Westlake just couldn't get back into it. Even after a a couple more score exchanges, the Dragons were never rattled. Not that AWL wasn't scrapping away, but there wasn't any give at all from a mental standpoint. Great game. Exciting times are ahead -gm

I like the piece, too. The one game I caught this past season, everyone on the student side was involved. Was that the exception, or are you (playmaker) just wanting to get rid of it because of your own opinion of the song? Seems to me that if something works, keep it. -gm

Just curious, but what do you think that might mean for us? -gm

This Will Cause You To Kick Your Cat!
greenminer replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
The burden IS on us to prove our worth; however, as long as the NCAA DOES acknowledge the Belt as being a IA conference, then I have problems with the Big XII continuing to get as many bowls as it does, and the money that goes with it, thus making the battle we have to fight that much harder. -gm -
Todd Dodge drives an ice-cream truck covered in human skulls. Every year he uses it to chauffeur his football players to and from the homecoming football game. This past season, after a complete demolition of the homecoming opponent, John Madden called him personally. TD will only admit that it was something about breast feeding and wanting to crawl into a hole; TD suggested to him moving to NFL on Sunday night. But that's all he would elaborate on. TD does not need to explain himself.

That one, specifically, is a perfect representation of how I feel after a Plumm post. The new board has already served it's purpose -gm PS Plumm: I tease I tease!

As much as I hate to admit it, getting DeLoach back from UCLA to be an assistant at a non-BCS school seems unlikely. I would think our only chance to get him would have been as a head coach. It'd be nice to be wrong, though -gm

Some of you are presenting a quiet confidence about this Tune kid. I'll be anxious to see what he does. Ya'll could feel free to elaborate what you know in the meantime -gm

Boise State Beats Ou, Big Time....you Heard
greenminer replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Who do you think is the best mid-major out there? As far as getting it done, BSU took care of all the games it was supposed to win, and also throttled an OSU team. Sure, they barely got by SJSU, but at least they figured them out. BTW, that San Jose team is in a bowl. OU can't claim taking care of business to the same extent. They played a harder schedule across the board, yes, but who's to say BSU couldn't be standing at this point in the season with the same record if they took on the same slate? We'll never know. That's why they're playing this week. And didn't BSU get in by default because of a new rule? Even if they lose badly, if a mid-major team does the same thing they (BSU) pulled this season under the same circumstances, they'll be in. -gm
