We were ranked late in the last two seasons (maybe just one), but neither lasted after late season collapses. I believe the list is exclusive to those that FINISHED the season ranked. Maybe UTEP in the '88 season when they played Brett Favre-led Southern Miss in the Independence Bowl. wait, checked...nvm. Not ranked then either. You can submit whatever you want, but the difference remains that the country actually witnessed it happening when BSU beat OU. From an immediate context, I think this year's OU team dwarfed that Pitt team. From a historical perspective, OU is the winningest program in college football since WWII. I think that gives BSU's win double the meaning. I suppose you could say that this year's OU team is a ghost of some of Stoop's other championship teams, but for the purpose of this argument it would hammer that '04 team. I, too, recall wondering in '04 why there wasn't any more uproar. -gm

This is the best proposal I've seen so far: I find Troy to be the curious point in this setup. Take a look at their path: they face Auburn and then (if they won) would play Boise State. I know Troy would be a million to 1 shot of winning it all, but after they way they handled Florida State, and then Rice in the NO Bowl...who knows how far, right? I know in an identical 12 game schedule Auburn would have a better record; but with a few weeks to rest and prepare for the first round, I think the playing field levels out a bit. You certainly can't argue against that after Boise's win the other night. -gm

It seems unusual that a recruit's visit would anger a school such as Baylor so much that they would withdraw their offer. Visits to multiple schools is the norm, why is this any different? -gm

Tough call. Last year's title game was a toe-to-toe battle of two giants that completely lived up to its billing. In terms of pure football, it was a game of titans that had a lot of great plays just like last night's Fiesta. however, I think it can be argued that this game will be more important and have more repercussions in the long run because of the "David vs. Goliath" and anti-BCS implications. The plays were just as spectacular, but the stories behind it are far greater. Two fantastic games in their own rights. Both great football battles, but last night was the playoff seed planted in the BCS garden. -gm

kinda tired of hearing the knock on the UNT degree coming from Dallas. Call me the ignorant, misinformed, young college student, but when I pick a college I'm not looking at the "overall prestige" of a degree; rather, I'm looking at what the specific college has to offer. I would think that an employer should see things the same way? If they're looking at "overall prestige" rather than at the quality of a specific college - i.e. business or music - that falls within their field, then maybe I don't want to work for them. If I were one of these football players looking at SMU's fine engineering or law schools...wait a tic! How many football players major in one of those two fields? I've met one. That's a lot, right? My personal experience? I've met a few current SMUers and alumn..."prestigious" or "blown away" would not be applicable to what this UNT alumn perceived. However, I guess they would say the same about some of us. Quite frankly, music majors are consistently up there with some of the most creative, intelligent people I've ever met. But, that's just MY bias I'm doing my MM at UTEP right now. Not exactly high on the overall ranks these SMUers must be reading. But ask IBM where one of the top engineering factories in the state - if not country - is and see what they have to say. Would that happen if they were looking at UTEP's "overall prestige"? I doubt it. I digress... The not semi-decent Belt was 4-3 against the semi-decent CUSA this year. And, last I checked, we just beat SMU without Dodge. I was about to accuse RC of his obvious SMU bias, and then was blown away by him being a UNT alumn! "Puke" Green? I bet this guy lives across the street from SMU waiting for the day he can get his son enrolled there. Really disturbing, and makes me wonder how many more UNT/NTSU alumni out there are like this. How many of them have deep pockets that could be making our stadium dreams that much easier? OMG...What if they were "ponying" that money over to the Hill?! I think another important lesson to be taken from this game is to dismiss the idea that a gimmick offense isn't going to work. Stoops said it best about the 2 point conversion that Boise St used to finish them off: something to the effect of "They simply executed it so well." Call it gimmick, call it high school, call it what you will; but Peterson has them executing that offense to perfection, has the city believing in the program, and the players knowing they can beat anybody. -gm

If so, it wouldn't suprise me. Our fellow "metroplexers" offer a close-by drive that is advantageous for every fan wanting to see the game. If you're going to argue that TCU faces a tough situation with no conference foe within a (Dr. Evil comin up) billion miles - and they can - then they can't ignore the advantages that playing their neighbors would help ease the uphill battle; that is, getting butts into Amon Carter. Moving east to the Hill: now that Bennett has things on the upswing, how do their attendance numbers compare to TCU's? -gm
