  1. Given Dodge's QB camp, and the success his SLC qb's had, I'd say it's a good bet that he knows how to teach a QB how to play in his offense. I don't know about making these guys play like studs; we would have seen signs of that if that were the case. But they were recruited here under the belief that they could play D-1 ball, and with Dodge at the helm I feel safe there will be a lot of improvement.
  2. not trying to state anything factual. I just thought I'd throw that out there and see what people have to say. Have you read anything? Even if CD is truly committed to Mizzou, I let most things I hear in college athletics go out the other ear and just wait and watch. "not. a. chance" Wasn't that Saban's answer to the press re: Alabama? I've heard it many times before. You just never know what they're really thinking.
  3. Chase Daniel. let the speculation and rumors fly
  4. They'll do it. And they'll let the English see them do it.
  5. Plumm's shortest post ever?
  6. Kind of like our offense the last two years?
  7. This is why I love this board. and the gay references, bitter, sarcastic jokes, and intelligent critiques. In between all of the above, is even more. Yet the bullying is at a bare minimum, which is not something I can say about most other boards I frequent. Other boards: Goon: "I'm a bigger fan than you are" Goon 2: "No, I'm a bigger fan, *&$#@!!" Goon 3: "How about some discussion about the team?" Goons 1/2: "F#^k off! We're bigger fans than you!" Doesn't do so much for me . I'll stick with my Mean Green koolaid and keep visiting this board.
  8. Schottenhymen is a great coach. I've been following him since he started coaching as a young mar. Did someone just say hymen?
  9. please do. I think it was Mark May that said this game (Fiesta) is the seed laid down for a playoff garden. Lame metaphore, yes. BCS is here until at least 2010 due to TV contracts. If we get even a small playoff then, people will be pointing to the Boise win as its roots.
  10. interspecies erotica, right here my friends. Where's the woman?
  11. I'll gather the goons I MEAN, ... troops. This thread will be highly under-appreciated by Mean Green Nation. Although, the 'horns might spot it, give a good laugh and thus it will earn a Rivals 4-star rating.
  12. That's something you can only speculate, and not worry about. For what it's worth, at least he's visiting, which is more than nothing right? You never know when he comes around he might just be swayed to think "wow look at this place. all the construction. new stadium in the works. new coach with lots of buzz." -gm
  13. I thought the Boise St thread got into a decent playoff system discussion that gave UNT fans some thought about how UNT football would fit into all that. While Kragthorpe may be a former UNT coach, the theme of that thread does not (yet) have anything to do with UNT football. Not saying you're wrong, just trying to play devil's advocate on this one. The forums aren't perfect, the admins are just trying to regulate it the best they can. -gm
  14. To try to respond to this constructively: I remember in '97 and '98, before I transferred to UNT, I was watching a DE at UT-El Paso by the name of Brian Young absolutely terrorize college quarterbacks during his career. Not just WAC players: I witnessed - in person - him single handedly sack the Oregon QB (Akili Smith, I think?) on two consecutive plays for safeties...no kidding. He put a swim move on the left guard and ran in almost untouched to take Smith down on their first offensive play of the game. The stadium went nuts...then booed, as the play was called back due to holding on the other side of the line. What happened on the next play? He bulldozed right over 2 linemen and did it again for the safety that was upheld. The Oregon coach approached him at the end of the game and said he was the best D-linemen he's ever seen. OUTSTANDING player at the college level, just like Padron for high school. And with the same "ceiling" labels from the NFL scouts that you're quick to put on this LB kid. I can't tell you how many scouting reports I read that year that said the exact same words: "Maxed out". I know as a UNT fan you'd take a step back and really admit that you hope this kid succeeds here (and I believe you would); just don't be so narrow-sighted. Take a step back, appreciate all the kids that want to represent Dodge and UNT and give their all. Young was drafted by the Rams in the FIFTH round of the 2000 draft; thank God someone took a chance on him. He shattered that ceiling and has continued to grow and mature as a lineman, earning his way up first as a nickle/dime package player to where he is now: full time starter as DT for the New Orleans Saints. The "ceiling" thing is just as tired as the Rivals star-rankings. Unfounded, and short-sighted. In fact, check out his (Young's) bio here and you'll find some striking parallels with the Padron kid. I certainly hope the best for Justin and his future. He seems of the highest quality, much like Young. -gm
  15. So you're probably suggesting that we do something on signing day, whether a banquet or not, right? Most programs have a media/press conference the day of so that the coach(es) can discuss the recruits. And it is open to the public, I believe. What do we do? Not sure, but having ANOTHER "pay-for" or "club-only" function just 7-10 days after doing something similar like the banquet might be a bit much on Mean Green wallets. One or the other, sure; but not both. just my 2 cents -gm
  16. I don't know about the rest of ya'll, but just reading about all of this is refreshing after having to tread through the "stealth" methods used in the recent past. -gm
  17. He probably had a lot more bonuses @ LSU to push his total way over 400K. -gm
  18. Point taken, and I agree to a certain extent. The counter-argument to this is that E. Trinity and A. Westlake had all that over SLC...and still lost. I'm not going to hail this kid as the next Chris Hurd, but I will trust Dodge for knowing what it takes to succeed with his system. -gm
  19. My first thought is that they're moving a guy coming from an offensive coordinator position to coach a defensive position. Why the switch? -gm
  20. You must be asking why no one else gave him a call at the same time A&M recruited him. Surely it's not a mystery to you that no one came calling after his first 6-24 season. To the Aggies credit, they courted him in all the right ways: hung with him from mid-season on with meetings and several phone calls. They probably had a bit of luck on their side too as there were not that many openings that year; that's to the best of my memory. It's an ongoing joke in Minerland that our coaches are taking over the Big-12 one at a time. only 10 more to go, right? -gm
  21. When you get back from your break, please let me in. I posted in this thread 2 pages before this quote; maybe you missed me? thanks! -gm
  22. you're absolutely correct. They play cupcakes outside of each other, then only duke it out for 6-7 weeks within themselves. sooo weak! -gm
  23. Is there an In 'n Out burger in Seattle? I hear they have good burgers.
