  1. I was at the game. They were hard.
  2. Totally with you on this, but you need to take into consideration that lineman are probably the hardest position to predict and recruit. As late as TD was getting into the recruiting process, it only amplified the situation: most of the good ones are taken. I'm sure TD is scampering out there finding a solution.
  3. This thread is already going here
  4. holy scnike those were some serious blocks.
  5. You have curious phonetics.
  6. You, dear sir, are on a nasty streak.
  7. If he really does run a 5.02, I wouldn't expect to see him as a linebacker at any D-1 school.
  8. How involved are you in athletics support? Not just as a spectator, but I would suggest getting involved in official Mean Green-affiliated groups. I was in the Green Brigade and Pep Band (but this applies to other groups too) and I got so much free shight, I'm nearly 4 years removed from all of that and still nearly a third of my wardrobe is UNT gear that was just handed to me. It's a great excuse to get more involved and works to the benefit of both parties: UNT gets more support and you, the broke college student, get free clothing. Kind of like an unofficial sponsorship. Not to mention there were opportunities to meet the teams, coaches, and occasionally R.V. Villareal has a great "family" atmosphere going on in athletics, and every one is very appreciative of what we do. I recall a summer band practice before the '01 season and the entire football team came out to Fouts (they had just finished practice on the other field), gave us all Gatorades, and Villareal (I think DD, too) spoke to us as a group. That was awesome. Additionally, with the extra $ the football team was bringing in from the NO Bowl trips, they pitched in to help with the band polo shirts. I'm not exactly sure about the numbers regarding the Green Brigade's budget, but I'm sure that helped someone's wallet.
  9. It couldn't have been from this hep cat, fo sho:
  10. post of the day? I nominate it.
  11. welcome to the board, btw
  12. I know the stereotype of Dickey's offense is run run run , but when we were successful, Hall and Smith were throwing for some decent yards. From the interview I would gather that his approach is to pre-determine going into each game how many trick (Dickey lingo for "pass" plays? lol) plays he would run. Most of the passing production came on play-actions that were set up with our ever-present ground game. While it certainly is an effective part of the game when set-up properly, I think we all would have liked to have seen Dickey take some ideas from a more pass-oriented system. Seems that most wideouts in his system will run only 3-4 different types of routes. Maybe someone with more insight into his schemes would correct me if I'm wrong.
  13. good stuff
  14. from texasfootball.com, Dick has orally committed to Arkansas.
  15. three at my last count, but it's been a while. Those internets multiply like stoned test bunnies.
  16. teams should playout regular season, and then draw straws for the bcs games. national champion determined by a GMG thread/poll.
  17. What has happened since I graduated? I remember Slinker seamingly building a good program, and traveling with the Bball band one year to NO and they played FAU (I think) in the Sun Belt tourney final. They were so fun to watch. Sad to hear them struggling lately
  18. I remember that! I went to visit a friend in SM soon after that game and all he could talk about was the coaching. You reiterated everything he had described to me, including the players' disappointment.
  19. How is Denton not a true college town, compared to Norman?
  20. I had always liked Michael until I read this story and some of his behavior this season. I felt kind of bad for him: an athletic specimen who's abilities haven't really been translated into team success. It's unfortunate (in his case, but good for the game) that he's in a sport where one man cannot single-handedly make a run through the playoffs or win a championship. now, Dwane Wade and the NBA, that's another story....
  21. um okay. I still think they do better than most other readings out there.
  22. You're love of UNT and our affiliate is beaming. I love your attitude. Is your dad from SMU? I think he just dumped something in this thread. I've been to many football and bball games in MANY different venues. I don't recall - do you? - even one that DOESN'T give away shirts. Don't put the attendance spin on promotions. It is my experience that UNT athletics does some wonderful things with promotions. Fee free to disagree. But not with tie-dye. Hard to argue. But we always had some attendance problems, even when we dominated (did we even dominate? we blew out Baylor and ArkSt, but other than we basically squeaked by with hard defense and a ball-control offense). The counter-argument is a GREAT 2002 NMSU/Sun Belt championship game. Seems to me that if something is on the line, even a conference championship for this "sinking ship" Sun Belt, the fans will come. I think that's something to build on.
  23. now you've got me curious. Do I want to know what this shuffle was?
  24. interesting new avatar
