Excited About Our Recruiting Class So Far
greenminer replied to BonfireBrian's topic in Mean Green Football
*puts my green goggles on* Can I just throw in an x-factor into all this? I'd like to suggest that the influence of Todd Dodges success's/potential might actually have these kids excited about us as an academic institution AND football program Is it so far fetched that these kids get revved at the thought of not only some actually playing time early in their careers, but also at the idea of actually taking on and WINNING against the A&Ms/Sooners of the world in, say, 3-5 years? -
He terrorized posters for years with his dominating play in the threads. Nawt too shahbby on da field, eider.

The NMSU game was just a microcosm of Hickmon. It seemed like for 2 years he came up huge at the biggest times. Booger still has my vote, though. I don't remember many players that could single-handedly affect a game like he did. As big and disruptive as he was in the trenches, he was deceptively fast. A guy with Redwood trees for thighs should NOT have been able to catch Jiles (LaMo QB) from behind when he was 20 yards out wide after a rollout. Boy, there were some that were knocking on Hall during his nice runs. Raise your hand if you miss him after the last 2 seasons. The way Cobbs hit the holes was a beautiful site to see. Cobbs = Clockwork Green I can't NOT mention Kassell and Spencer. Damn we had some nice LBers for a while.

Geezie Chreezie, what strikes me is not that gmg had such a huge spike, but that the other two don't have anything at all to show. Interesting graph

Could We Agree To Quit Starting Posts
greenminer replied to the real grad88's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not going to elaborate because I don't want the board newbies to inquire (because someone will HAVE to answer), but I'm just glad it's been more than a week since I've seen a thread about the F W and why it hasn't been brought back, branded, and/or engraved on our helmets for the next century. -
THAT was a great game. And no one was there to see it lol You remember that punt after the final drive that sailed, like, 40+ yards then rolled another 30? I think it was officially a 72 yard punt. Everything went our way that day.

The UTEP coaching tree is branching out and taking over the Big XII. All feelings that some Miner fans feel about the way he left aside, he's an outstanding coach and maybe one of the best program builders out there. Nebraska got a good one in Sadler (he's not quite the recruiter that BG is, though). 2 down, 10 to go....

I'd like to think that's the case, but my perception of that side was that there were a ton of greeks, the band, but then a LOT of their friends: parents/fam/other...i.e. non-UNT students. It'd be nice to know you're right. I just have this image in my head of the student crowds at the Sun Bowl for UTEP games, which seemingly dwarfed my experiences at Fouts (on the student side). And they were maybe close to 10K. You could very well be right, as the aforementioned numbers really are just my own estimates and I can't think of any site that has a log of actual student ticket counts to confirm anything. If nearly a third of the students were showing up for home games when we were winning, I'd be even more dumbfounded by the then-voted against stadium fee.

Who told you we have gotten 10K for a single game? Maybe for the bigger ones, like the NMSU/Belt championship game...or the Baylor game. But 10K? We average, what, 15K total (I might be a little off, but that's not the point), and you're insinuating that 2/3 of those people are current students... ...riiiiiight /dr. evil.

Do The Bb Coaches Have Your Confidence?
greenminer replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Basketball
i haven't voted, but I like her for the 01-02 season. Should that count? -
First home game of '99 season. I was in the Green Brigade. I believe it was Baylor and their QB was named Cicero? I seem to recall Scott coming in relief of Bridges (?) and leading us to a win. Not sure, and the espn/meangreenathletics pages don't go back that far. (why not? where can I find archives like that?) We also beat Tech that year in Texas Stadium. Having said all that, I get '99 and '01 games confused...a lot. Hope that's not the case here.

Morgan Informed Thursday To Look Elsewhere
greenminer replied to GreenBat's topic in Mean Green Football
Can we be clear on this guy? I don't think the article is very clear about whether or not he qualified academically. His SAT score didn't change when they got the new coach, so something else had to. Maybe the school's standard. I wonder if they used it as an excuse to pull the offer after they saw they didn't like what this guy had to offer athletically. It just seems weird that he was good enough for the old staff AND Stanford, but now with the new staff his grades are NOT good enough? If he was okay'd at one point to be admitted to Stanford, I'd say he's a safe bet to qualify academically here. -
Oh okay. I thought they were just trying to rob me blind.

The sudden influx is not the issue here, Dude! You...also, Dude: 'sudden influx' is not the preferred nomenclature; 'pleasant arrival', please.

That's nonsense. Hitting higher percentages has never been directly related to a higher chance of winning. I demand sources.

Breaking News-----stadium News------
greenminer replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
UNT administration has been keeping TD's slogan in mind with every heart dashed. They are trying to break us in. Eventually, we will feel that there is nothing to look forward to. No hope whatsoever. It's the old administration's fault! "Kill the will of your opponent. Every team has a great desire to win. It's your job to wear the opponent down so that by the fourth quarter the opposition has nothing left. But you do." Todd Dodge -

It's taking UTEP over a year (13 months and counting...still not close to being done) to get a freakin' parking garage built. 3 floors, no "decor". Not complicated right? Expect anything. -

What were some of our best seasons re: overall ticket sales (not just single games)? Maybe some of our elder Mean Greeners can recall who was playing those years? When Mitch was QB, were there lots of people watching? How were the Hayden Fry years?

Daily Are Saddened By The Upcoming Changes To Fry Street
greenminer replied to WIFE2HOT4U's topic in Mean Green Football
per the Forum Rules: While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. Our decision is final in these matters. This is GMG.com, which has rules. You're on the internet, so there are other places to take jabs. Your's was hardly that harsh, but I'd just keep this in mind. I don't really see how a cleaner Starbucks is an improvement. My personal attachment to the place was how unique all these places were to Denton. I'm in support of cleaning the area up, I've heard that the tenants were pretty lousy about taking out trash, keeping the walkways clear, etc. But a Starbucks? To The Bone knows that there isn't one on Fry Street. His point was that anyone can find a Starbucks within a 5 minute drive to and from anywhere in the Metroplex. Europe has unique cafes at every corner. It's Europe, and each one is probably different right? I wonder if they are all Starbucks. I don't think I saw their sign in van Gogh's Cafe Terrace at Night. So isn't Europe's scene, in a sense, an argument FOR keeping these unique places around Fry Street? I want to think of something to say about how happy you are, but am speechless. "LFAO LFAO LFAO LFAO LFAO" I haven't seen that in forever on this board. It's good to see people being amused. I was reminiscing on my blog about Denton a while ago. Thought I'd share in light of the Fry Street talk: ...Get some beer from the Silverleaf, maybe that will help. Maybe you can argue that, to a Dentonite, Shiner served at Dan’s is different from the Shiner served from the local Albertsons. And the dirty-ass floors at Tre’s place near Bonnie Brae is cleaner than my freshly-mopped El Paso apt. When you walk away from those places, the body feels stronger, the soul is filled, and you’re warmer like when you get into the Karma Cafe or after you’ve just finished a pizza and pitcher of beer at the Flying Tomato. 3 years removed, and I still miss that shitty town. I can still smell it sometimes. ...I guess I'm one of the few that liked that dirty-ass smell lol. -
