I think we did the best we can according to JJ's gameplan. It was a miracle shot and kudos to him for being so clutch. The bigger question is why doesn't JJ do the norm: put a guy on the inbound. The idea is to force him to pass up/around the defender, thus giving the ball more air time and the defenders a better chance to get to it before/at the same time the intended receiver (bball..."receptionist". w/e) does. Of course, I could be full of it because I'm not a coach. I think we're over-analyzing this anyways. The guy just made an incredibly clutch shot. If JJ isn't here after this season, it won't be because of this single instance.

What if we actually beat OU? I know: not realistic. Or pull a Central Michigan - Michigan thing and keep it close. (maybe it was Western Mich) Or funnier yet, beat OU and then LOSE to SMU! THAT would make for some interesting message board reading.

If you ever get a chance, sit in a rehearsal of a major UNT ensemble. The educators they have are a direct correlation to the reputation of the school and will impress you. They aren't just musicians, but great speakers and educators. A business man who makes presentations can learn a lot through an observation over there. Dennis Fischer came to El Paso a year ago to adjuticate a clinic. When he was done with his 20 minute critique of the local high school, nearly everyone in the room gave him an ovation. He just floored every one with his ability to connect, communicate, and keep the pace "go go go". Williams is certainly no exception. I was truly blessed with great teachers. -gm

cut it with the JJ love.

I'm tired, so correct me if I missed something: when did we belittle 4 straight SB titles? I thought the general consensus was appreciation for the titles, but bitterness about the lack of progress that could have been made from it, following by a messy exit.

How Many Of The New Class Will Start?

Great topic. Kinda in line with this one -
bleh. don't like this argument. DD is (er, was) a representative of UNT. UNT recruited him, UNT would have signed him. He would have played for UNT, not Dickey/Dodge.
-
Stop the delusions. 13-0 after we beat BOISE STATE for the national title. BCS will fold because of us and finally give in to some type of playoff system. Todd Dodge will sign an extension for another 30 years. Spare me the green goggles. I've read enough. Say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

If I'm Stoops, how do I gameplan for us now? Seriously, if I were a coach I suppose I would grab all tape possible..including SLC games? Maybe look at Mizzo's games. After all, they adapted some of the system to suit Chase. Just curious what some of the coaches we have here would do.

worked for me just fine. try this. Scroll down to High School Sports. first video.

Point taken. But who's to say Tre didn't have heart? Does he need to puke to prove his worth? Seems like an 80 yard run after shrugging off their entire defense takes some guts to me. Both great players, With the winning mindset that we want.

I think Muzzy came in the year before Quinn, redshirted and then started with Quinn the next year. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Considering the praise that TD alumn have heaped on him, I question the whole process here. I think he would have handled it better if he had known. Touching on what Harry said, are scholarship offers contractual? What if they're word of mouth, and no one ever told TD or his staff that we had made this offer in the first place? I'm not saying this is the case with Insall, but what if there are some people out there dirty enough to see the new coaching change, assume an institution's ignorance, and call in and say "hey the previous regime offered, do I still got it?" When in fact is was never there and they were hoping for some luck? DD probably offered him, and TD never knew about. If he did know, I agree that a call would have been nice. But just because a lot of programs are honoring commitments like this doesn't mean that what TD did NEVER happens. Look at Foles' situation with his withdrawal from ASU. He saw their coaching changes, saw they were recruiting another QB, and left. Maybe he smelled something after taking some responsibility to do some sniffing. A responsibility Insall never bothered to try. And I don't think it was DD's problem to contact him after moving up to Utah State. In his defense, once we fired him he was no longer obligated to do anything for us or OUR recruits.

Just last year. I wish Riley the best and will be happy if he comes here, but if I had to choose between the two I'd pick Tre in a heartbeat for his abilities. Having said that, the next year is going to be quite interesting following his recruiting trail and the remarks his dad made during the title game.

Anyone got footage of Roberson? I'd like to see him in action.

How did the Sweet 16 comment come into play? I apologize if I seemed to overreact to the "gutter" label. It just seems to have negative connotations, and seemed a little bit blind to what's been accomplished the last two years. I wasn't taking anything you said personally. Certainly, it gave me your own perception of UTEP athletics. So thank you...I think I guess some people think 62-29 since BG left qualifies as gutter. The BG link seemed like good justification to expound a little. Please don't over-generalize and assume any more "inferiority complexes". We're both on the same side here. You just choose to not know anything about UTEP.

I've thought the same thing. People seem to forget that we've already got some great players that were highly regarded coming in. -
Yeah, down year makes us a gutter program since BG left? Probably no tourney this year. I don't see UNT making it without much luck either. Never mind the two 20 win seasons UTEP had under Sadler and their NCAA/NIT appearance. Speaking of gutters, how long has it been since our (UNT) last tourney visit? A down year by UTEP standards, for sure. Never mind we'll be closing in on 20 wins in Barbee's first season. BG had 6 wins his first season. Last time I checked, people weren't really hopping around the room, rejoicing about JJ's successes. We're (UTEP) a Jekkle & Hyde team, for sure. But there's no question about our improvement since the beginning of the season. More than enough to win a rematch with some of the Jackson and Chicago States of the world. Last I checked, NMSU wasn't doing too bad. Can UNT beat Nevada? I think we better worry about the Arkies first (ouch). At least when UTEP lost to those aforementioned States, they were at the beginning of the season. Gawd that last statement make me cringe I think we both are of the same opinion of UNT, I just don't agree with your assessment of UTEP as in a gutter since BG left, especially considering our (UNT) history.
-
You're right about Gillespie leaving for A&M from UTEP or UNT. I could have done without the gutter comment. FWIW, we're hardly in a gutter. And certainly not the disaster that Rab left us in before BG came. I would LOVE to see this "guttered" UTEP team take on UNT.
