  1. UTSA was never officially invited, per @Harry There's probably some element of truth to the UTSA stuff, they were indeed on the official AAC release statement, but I'm ready to move on, plant our feet and fix our ship.
  2. I get the frustration of hearing these inflated numbers, yet seeing only 15-20k butts in seats. I also see the argument for announcing the highest figure you can. It's salesmanship. Social media is making this disconnect so damn obvious. What does the on-the-fence fan think about a photo of 15-20k people when the Tweet says 27k? I personally don't think it looks good.
  3. Staycation Bowl?
  4. shades of 2001 LaMo? Too soon to tell.
  5. Attendance figures are always reporting tickets sold, not butts in seats.
  6. More scores from around the state LaMo 3 - 51 Texas Bowling Green 20 - 26 Texas A&M Colorado St 27 - 20 UTEP NMSU 11 - 31 Sam Houston St Cinci 34 - HAHAHAHAHAHA Houston Texas State BYE
  7. Did I hear correctly? Morris mentioned on the post game that they incorporated an extra LB, so more of a 3-4. I'm going to rewatch the game and keep an eye out on this.
  8. Also of significance: we shut them out in the 2H. Anyone want to take a shot at how long it has been since we did that? I think they mentioned this in the post game.
  9. Gave up 66 to the Ponies. Lost. Awful look, especially after the shots fired on socials.
  10. I have optimism that this is not what the higher ups think. When we joined, Aresco was very explicit: UNT was the only incoming school that checked all their boxes. Based on the above, It's not such a leap IMO that any administration involved in this stuff is looking at our investment/budget, and not so much our history. I'm not sure about UTSA: do they see the recent CUSA success, or do they look at the recent Texas State result and ask, is this a sign of what's to come in the post-Harris era? I assume they would gloss over the UT and Houston-Christian games. None of the above, if I'm being honest, factors in NIL. Aresco's view of UNT was pre-NIL era.
  11. If some say current versions of the 3-3-5 are for this, then I can buy that. But My understanding of the 3-3-5 goes back to Dunn, then the Urlacher era under Long/Franchione. They explicitly used the scheme because they were outmanned up front against bigger OL. Having a super-athlete like Urlacher allowed them some versatility and success from the back. Neither of these motives had to do with facing the Air Raid. I enjoyed reading your points about the scheme. I am really speaking to our current situation: we are not facing Air Raid every week, nor are we a super P4 with P4 talent across the two-deep like Alabama is.
  12. Let's be more specific than "done the job before at D1 level". A guy that has done it before at a Power school, but never seen the struggles at Group level, would concern me. I don't think it's a deal breaker, but my preference would be someone that is getting it done at our level or lower, and is hungry to prove himself. Older guys that have proven themselves at Power level also might not be that hungry anymore.
  13. Yeah, having that level of play at the position is great for any formation, but I think you're kind of watering down the point here: If you're a 3-3-5 base coach, and you want to work at a G5 school, you face a massive uphilll climb without that DT playing at an AA level. We are seeing this scheme fail over and over because, as we are learning, even with elite play in the back 5, it's nearly impossible to compensate for a 3 man front that is facing 5 men other side of the line every single down. Counterpoint: I don't think the answer is necessarily going back to a traditional 4-3. Don't be surprised if in the next 5-10 years (or less!) we see an evolution on that side of the ball, where your formation has 4 up front, but they get creative with the back 7. Might be worth investigating what has already been done with a 4-2-5.
  14. For the rest of us that want to avoid Spotify like the plague, here is a Pocket Cast link. https://pca.st/rvh2un2f
  15. I think that's one way to look at it. I've read over and over that it is predicated on confusing the QB. Not supposed to know where the defensive pressure is coming from. I think it's a great change-of-pace package, but we have plenty of evidence to say it is not a good base. Unless you have that all-world DT that can constantly hog up two OL in the middle.
  16. The race to be a part of P4 takes priority right now, even at the expense of fan travel and interests. Sucks to be a traveling fan, or want to watch a game on TV that is well out of your time zone. Athletic departments around the country want to be on prime tv as much as possible. Big time championships, money, and media exposure all intersect.
  17. It's currently the PAC2, right? What would have to play out for American to pass the PAC2 in terms of performance, media rights, and perception? I have this wild idea that we all hold firm on where we are at, together, and make a concerted effort to figure out how to make this happen. Not that we become P4, just simply pass the PAC2 which seems pretty much dead as it stands.
  18. Rewording this to reflect how I feel about UNT: Be gentle and use lots of lube please. This Mean Green defense is way underperforming my expectation for a championship team and looks lost right now. I was cautiously optimistic to start the season but we are in big trouble with this DC and his 3-man front. You guys may be lost as a team, but our defense is so atrocious that I don't feel good about tomorrow at all.
  19. This is how you troll a base and gain followers and attention.
  20. He is visiting with everyone, right? and probably scheduled this AAC tour before all the PAC talk.
  21. "one of our readers made a neat graph! Check out all the hand-drawn arrows." cool.
  22. "haha NutsaCK you play in a borrowed, off-campus facility!" wouldn't hit the same, amiright?
  23. Suggestion: check out the Google Photos of M.L. Leddy's in Fort Worth (custom boots and saddles). If you zoom in on the boots that are displayed on the wall, you can see some really nice green-colored options. It may or may not be a leap to ask them, if you could save a few bucks by taking one they already have (assuming the size/fit is good) and adding Mean Green logos/branding to your liking. https://maps.app.goo.gl/4QMScGudqGLLwKna6
  24. My sarcasm radar is flat. The above quote is not a joke.
