I didn't say no team can win in Denton. I said teams don't want to come here and get their ass whipped. What do I mean by that? Here: I don't think it is as simple as recent win-loss records (although, there is obvious overlap). I think coaches and ADs look at brand perception, ROI (when it comes to those tournament metrics) versus the potential opponent, among other things. "Other things" that can factor in across several seasons. 5 seasons? 10 seasons? That's up to them. We are not a world beater in the eyes of the common fan, but I think under the last regime - and to a less degree under Ross - we have earned a ton of respect among coaches and ADs. More respect than teams such as Charlotte, despite the numbers you have cited. Are we unbeatable? No. But we are no-pushover and I wouldn't be surprised if they see us as a bigger risk to damage all those important NCAA metrics compared to teams like Charlotte. Obviously, there are others here - not just you - who disagree with me. But I don't think I'm alone either.

Charlotte is not a recent NIT champ. And they lost int the first round of the AAC tournament. Teams don't want to come to Denton and get their ass whipped. We need to - and should - get a quality home schedule, but I get why it is hard.

UNT Athletics | Mean Green Reserve Bourbon Launches Soon

Are we the first major university in DFW to do something like this? I haven't seen (granted, I haven't looked either) any options for TCU/UTA/SMU brands. -

I love love love this so so so much. -
I think previous HC experience and being in the Leach tree were priorities going into our hire. I am curious what inspired this thread. Maybe you see something special.

If you can accept we are a minor league now

@CMJ posted years ago, towards the end of the Tony Benford era, about how he believes (and I mostly agree) that all coaches have the x-and-os in their heads to compete with anyone. The difference is basically this "it" factor: their ability to motivate, communicate, and adapt these schemes with their roster that separates the success stories from the failures. -
Morris speaks to the Media Day 1 of Fall Camp

A couple times, in this upload, the questions are either mumbled or too fast. It was difficult to process what they said, but not due to any conflict with background noise. If it came to it, how about have the AD media team include transcriptions/captions? It lt looks like YT can auto-generate them on its own. Programs like Adobe Premier Pro (I have it) can auto-transcribe audio and auto-generate the text for closed captioning. I'm sure they have it, or something similar. -

I never thought about the timeline that way. To my knowledge, we signed Morris and then -after the fact- he voluntarily gave up some pay to have more to work with for the assistant pool. I have never heard that this was an up front offer from Morris to sell himself into the hire. -

I like it. Something about the immediacy of the moment, as in, we-are/were-busy! - that makes it endearing and puts me a little bit more into their world. I don't need every single release for all my news updates to be beamed to me from a neatly controlled room. -

A "big upgrade" isn't the impression that I got (although, it would have been welcome!). The expectation with Morris, in my view, was to simply get us over the hump. Stay with the Leach tree, keep that element of consistency, just stop flopping on national TV and in championship opportunities. Unfortunately, year 1 didn't work out that way. First year coach adjustment? Culture change? Or is he really a terrible coach? Cancer in the locker room? -
The 50+ year olds don't want to do away with it. They just want everyone to "man up" and explain their downvotes.

Don't we have SOS metrics available to show us this type of comparison? PS: since it might be more relevant, maybe we even have further detail like strength of individual units. You could - if these stats exist - compare the different OL/DLs they faced from one season to the next. -
Yeah It probably matters more to schools like us who are trying to boost attendance and build a following. Also, whether or not you are a commuter school.

@meangreenfaninno thanks, I haven't heard that until now.

It def helps being on campus but, Wardly is right: if Memphis is happy with their community support then they aren't going to prioritize putting it on campus for students. Having all that community and corporate funding (and facilities!) sure gives them some leeway with who they can consider their target demographic. Thinking long-term: ignoring your student body would not be wise. If you have a spell of bad seasons, followed by an upswing, it will be hard to connect to recent grads and rebuild your base.

I caught that. Sounds like something that happened in the post-production, and not in-person at the conference. Regardless, it's a blunder.

There is still no limit on NIL deals right? The way I understand NIL, scholarship limits are irrelevant.

This leap from I-Love-Littrell into I-Do-Not-Like-Morris is noted. You're right, though: this Morris hire was very different from any hire we've done going back....ages! We didn't flip from defense to offense, or the other way around. We went from one guy in the Leach tree to another guy in the Leach tree. Continuity from one hire to the next that I have never seen in my football fandom. I get the bleakness heading into year 2. NIL. Necessary changes that were not made. I think Morris still wants to figure this out, though. He wants to get to that first BIG opportunity, similar to SL and KSU. Giving up now would be throwing in the towel before he's been knocked down. For me, personally, this is not very different from most offseason and year 2 or 3 of a recent hire. Still very much, let's see how the first couple games play out and dreaming for wins. -
I was just making an observation. If the guidelines don't say anything about copy-pasting from other forums, then you're allowed, right? Please doesn't call me out on not commenting on the subject matter. You didn't comment either. In that sense, we're both making observations, AMIRIGHT? He copy-pasted the entire post from the thread. Which, as we can see in the guidelines, looks like it's okay!

Didn't the Howitzer dunk into our own basket once? Effectively, scored for the other team?

Direct link to comment that NT80 copy-pasted in its entirety.
