Man, 49ers were up 36-31 at half, now down 66-49. Charlotte fans kinda experiencing what our football fans did on Saturday. -

Thinking about the current (non-Mean Green) American torchbearers right now. Random thoughts: MEMPHIS is clearly the media darling. I hate rooting for them, but this conference desperately needs more respect and the only way to get that is to win these OOC games. WICHITA STATE is rockin'! Not many brand name wins, but the BB enthusiast will see some solid wins on their resume. Minnesota is on deck soon, for those that like to look at common opponents. Also ETSU, which is clobbering Charlotte right now. They should wallop Alcorn State. ECU and RICE. Not sure what to think about these stellar records. Me personally, I love the game but I don't love it to the point of being familiar with all 300+ programs. I know very little about their opponents. PS: I don't know if the American has had this many 1 or 0-loss teams (5) this far into November. Seems like it would be a good thing, right? -

Yeah, one of the (coolest) anomalies in sports: they are so elevated as a brand that they are included in the Power/Major discussions. Also, on the other side of the coin, people refuse to include Memphis lol. Why am I remindeed of the "Stay out of Malibu!" scene in Big Lebowski?

I think he likes the Mean Green. I personally think if it were a series, it'd be like 50/50. We seem really really close in terms of talent/identity.
-
Memphis should win today but, as we all know, they will take days off. I suspect we will see more of 2023-2024 Tigers: they’ll continue this run and then sputter at some point in league play.

Honestly, I think moving forward I'll just put these scores/links into CBL's mega thread.

Tulsa wins

I dug into this. Game by game, it's 11-11 (G1), 2-2, 2-2, 3-3. He DNP in G4. Aubin Gateretse, from Namur, Belgium

I don't know, Grant's teams seemed like they chemistry exploding through the roof, they'd run through brick walls for each other, yet I don't remember much continuity beyond 2 seasons at a time. - except for a small handful of players.
-
Is 2/3 a reasonable expectation? Is 3/3 possible, or a reach?
-
I'll elaborate on this, in case anyone glosses over: A commitment to the GB is a commitment to a ton: summer/preseason camp (HUGE commitment), 3-4 rehearsals every week during the semester, plus giving up all of your gamedays, plus additional performances for local events like marching band festivals/competitions/showcases. The amount of time put into this "class" to only get 1 credit for your 4.0 grade is wild. I remember a Q&A session with an admin (school dean?) where some GB members really pressed him about this.

Absolutely. Feeling comfortable in this case would mean, knowing a bit more about what we're trying to do offensively. I don't think I learned anything from last night's game.

conflicting feelings. obv very happy for the win over a major conference program at home - supposedly the first in Denton since 2010? - but the way we won this didn't make me feel particularly good about our season moving forward. Someone convince me to not read too much into this.
-
I have no feel for our team. No idea what we do well, or what we want to do (outside of physical defense). I was thinking back to the early McCasland era when he was constantly heaping praise on our roster for just loving to play together, any chance they could. do these current guys love to play together as much as Grant’s did?

yes! 12 seed, 30-win, Will-Wades-been-to-6-straight-postseasons-including-S16, McNeese! Y'all (not necessarily you GJ)! Take off your football glasses. There are incredible programs dwelling in these off-name conferences. We have useful metrics that can validate their quality of ball, regardless of name/conference affiliation.
