No shit, Sherlock!!

The question has been asked of me before
Hunter Green replied to mad dog's topic in Mean Green Football
My son and I were listening to the game while running some errands and I was trying to come up with the right word/words that describes the state of our football program. This is what I came up with that is repeatable. pathetic, pitiful, embarrasing, pathetic, sad, unbelievable, sickening, pathetic and pathetic. Rick, we all know you read the board. For the love of God, DO IT!!! And get someone in here who knows what they're doing! -
OK, I'll be the first on this thread to mention Todd Dodge. I'll admit, Neuhisal (sp) gets my attention from a known name standpoint, But I'm sure Dodge could recruit and THAT'S the name of the game.
-
That pretty much sums it up.
-
The season can't be saved. It would only be positive if we won out because it would show that the team is improving. But, I don't see that happening. This is 2005 all over again.
-
BTW Arkstfan, congrats on the win last night. You guys clearly have a better team than us, as does most of the conference. That QB is pretty special.
-
It is an unfortunate turn of events that Darryl has suffered all of the health problems he has, but lets be realistic. The coaching staff has failed miserably at getting Div. 1 talent in here @ all positions. That's the bottom line. Ark. St., Muts, and others are beating us at our own game. We can't stop anyone on defense and offense is a totally foreign concept to Darryl and Ramon, even if we had the players to execute. it, and we don't. Once the N.O. Bowl is "officially" out of reach, I say make the change and let's get someone in here who can make us competitive again and at least fun to watch. Watching NT is painful. It's pathetic to watch a team and expect them to screw up when on offense, and they often do. They are woefully un-prepared, and why is that? Coaching and not near enough talent. RV, make the change.

Amen

It's a fluke we have either one of them. NT is the worst at squandering talent I have ever seen. If you were a skilled offensive player, would you come here? If so, why?
-
The reason we don't have a TD in the 1st Q of play is because we don't try to score. We don't have a QB who can make plays or coaches who can recruit difference makers. The coaches also don't have a clue about coaching offense.

Good luck the rest of the way, guys

Congrats on a nice win. Ya'll kicked our asses. -
I was reflecting on FFR's post earlier, and yes, I do remember those players and games. Believe me, folks, we have seen the best NT has to offer from 2001 - 2004 and it will be a long time before we see it again. I seriously believe Darryl and his staff will be gone after seven more games. I hope the NT administration will get serious this time about hiring a SERIOUS candidate who is an up-and-comer assistant or OC from a BIG TIME program. If not, NT athletics will forever wallow at the bottom of the college football barrel for a long, long time. I stated in an earlier post that I think Darryls illness has taken a toll on him and I sincerely wish the best for him. It's sad to see how far he and this program has sunk in just two short years, but this a badly coached, bad football team that I don't see getting any better as the year goes on. It's funny to see how smu has turned their season around so far. Their players and coaches have rallied behind each other and the progress is notible. We on the other hand are sinking to the bottom of the Sunbelt. Personally, I'd like to see us go after Todd Dodge @ Southlake. I have no doubt he could recruite some serious talent in here in a short amount of time. Are there any other name candidates from the college ranks we could have a shot at?
-
I wonder how much his illness has taken a toll on him and the team. Darryl looks down right un-healthy when I saw him today. I feel bad for him and his family.

Yeah, and I've been waiting for that Grade A baseball facility for a couple of years now also. It's really a shame that we haven't taken more than baby steps in the right direction over the last decade or so. I understand that some things take time and that this university has been the victim of blase management for years, but the time has come to find a way to build the facilities necessary to recruit the athletes we need to change perceptions and build a truly marketable program in Denton. We are called the University of North Texas, and we can't even do a decent job of recruiting the suburban/inner city areas of the DFW area! Why is that? Is it out coaching staff, our administration, or our facilities that seem to put us at the bottom of every recruit's list year after year? Other than our AD and HOPEFULLY our new president, I say that all three are to blame for the fact that this 34K university is mired in athletic mediocrity. The time has come for change What I don't get, is that our head coach and offensive coordinator are BOTH former D-1 QB's and STILL cannot create an ofense that's worth a $hit, much less entertaining. I seriously question their ability in this area and in my opinion, should both be fired if significant progress is not made soon. Every year, it is the same ineptitude. Whether it's recruiting, or the fact neither are qualified for their positions, changes need to be made one way or the other. After nine years, we should be further along than we are. On a different topic, I have exhausted my ability to attract new fans to the program. None of them want to come out anymore and watch such a bad brand of football. I have to admit, my local high school team is much more entertaining to watch than NT. I love my team and my school, but damn, it's hard to us not even be competitive against other schools we SHOULD be competitive with.

FM Marcus QB
Hunter Green posted a topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Flower Mound Marcus QB wins weekly award Faulkner is the third straight QB to win the weekly award. (marcusfootball.com photo) 09/22/2006 For the third straight week, a quarterback has won TexasFootball.com's statewide Player of the Week award. This week, it was Matt Faulkner taking home the award. Faulkner threw for 407 yards and 4 TDs in FM Marcus's 48-46 triple-overtime win over Mansfield Summit. He joins Lake Travis QB Garrett Gilbert and Houston Stratford's Andrew Luck as weekly winners. Why can't NT EVER have a QB throw for even half that? -

So why wouldn't DD open up the offense EVERY game? Makes no sense. -
...but is she athletics-friendly?

I received this from the Commish several months ago. Whether he is sincere or this is just politico-speak, only time will tell. My original query is below his response. _________________________________________________________________ Scott: I support, and the Board unanimously supports, the continued development of UNT's athletic program on the course we have been on for several years. This includes a continued commitment to improved facilities, student athlete support services, greater involvement of fans on campus and in the community, a broader financial base, and success in both academics and athletics. I've attended every home football game since my appointment, except in one or two cases when I was out of state, and I've attended women's soccer and volleyball games and men's basketball games. I'm a season ticket holder and Mean Green Club contributor. The Board intends to seek a president who is committed to continue the improvement of our athletic programs, and I do not believe that any candidate who wished to change this direction would be taken seriously as a candidate. I hope these comments are helpful. Lee Jackson Chancellor, University of North Texas System P.O. Box 311220 Denton, Texas 76203-1220 (940) 565-2904 (940) 565-4998 fax chancellor@unt.edu >>> "Scott Robertson" <rscottrobertson@msn.com> 9/24/2005 1:00 PM >>> Mr. Jackson, I read your statement to North Texas alumni, regarding the continued on-campus progress @ NT. I am curious what your position is regarding athletics. Can we expect continued support for the the athletic department? Do you share Dr. Pohl's commitment to athletics? Many of us support NT because of the commitment made to building a first class D-1 program. What say you? Scott Robertson Class of 95

What should be the prototype program?
Hunter Green replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
The problems, as I see it, are multiple. First off, NT has NO tradition to build from when compared to the other D-1 programs in Tx. People in the north Texas region are big timers, meaning, if you're not in the Big 12, you can't even think of competing for publicity, especially when try to compete against the pro teams in this area. Secondly, I do not think NT will ever escape the doldrums they're in now because no one (BOR excluded) in power @ NT really gives a rats ass about NT. Oh sure, you get the lip service, but, where is the passion, where is the action that's needed to kick start this fine university. Music majors and teachers do not give much money back to their university. What is needed (LJ, or one of his cronies, are you reading?) is for the engineering school, pharmacy school, and law school to get off the ground and produce money giving individuals who feel a tie to NT. That, and getting into a conference with schools that the local Joe can identify with. My rant. Fire away.
