No. Lee Jackson won't allow it.

I decided to stop supporting the program because I lost interest and couldn't see putting my hard earned money into a program that was aimless, to say the least. In one of my early letters to RV and the Prez, I sited the Univ. of Houston and their commitment to athletics in the form of a new stadium (which we did as well), paying to get a up and coming head football coach (which we just recently did) and made a commitment to their fans that they would actively seek admission to the Big XII. When, or if, our university will make this type of commitment, then I'll come back. Oh, I'll still troll the board and go to games from time to time, but until I hear lofty goals from the new AD, the Prez and the BOR, my position will be, "I gave at the office." I have been doing my part since the Steve Sloan days when we decided to go back to 1-A. Not as much as many of you, but I've been around a long time. I remember having lunch with Craig Helwig and Alan Ward one day, expressing to him the crappy product that was put on the field and how embarrassing it was to bring family and friends to games. To me, nothing has changed and until there is a commitment and a goal to bring greatness to Denton, I'm out. We old timers have been through this many, many times. With each new hire comes all the promise in the world and the same old piss poor results. As they say in Missouri, show me.

Remember the fiasco that was Craig Helwig. Dude had all kinds of experience at Texas, yet couldn't relate to the "culture" that was/is UNT. He never had a clue.

Doesn't matter. No chemistry, no coaching = another sub 500 season. -
Not justifying his behavior, but I do admire the brass balls shown by Houston's power brokers. Thinking big. Whether they get there or not, remains to be seen. But, at least they're trying.

Nevertheless, he brought the Coogs to a very nice win over FSU and into the national conversation. I wish we had the same determination as they do. Brass balls I say, is what we need. But sadly...

Rebuilding trust within the North Texas fanbase

Good point, Grand. But it's not just Mac. It's Mac + Dodge + Benford + Stevens + what's his name after that. They all run together as one bad hire after another that leads to one common denominator. Losing. Someone should be accountable for that. -

Great post, Harry. Yes, I suppose many fans will come back, but to what end? We have squandered the last 10 years with one bad hire after another and what has it gotten us? Scorn, ridicule, laughter, contemp. While others (Houston) have positioned themselves to at least be in the conversation for P5 expansion, we sit here with our pathetic leadership and settle to be the laughing stock in all major sports. Why? Why should any of us old guard spend any more of our time, money and emotion if our "leadership" is content with the current culture of losing? I hope to hell that SL is successful and brings at least some respectability back to Denton. However, I feel it is now too late for us to be anything more than what we are. Insignificant. It's a down right shame and I, for one, have been kicked in the nuts too many times to care anymore. I'll watch with a passing interest, but no more season tickets and no more MGC. Enough is enough. Screw RV, screw the BOR and screw the Prez for allowing this to happen. -

MGB: Why should UNT pick Morris? Here are 9 quick points

Scott Hall, Mitch Maher, Andrew Smith, and Steve Ramsey might have something to say about that. -
There.

I get this. But respect the people who aren't ready to give up and want to do something different. I mean, apathy and walking away is what got us here. Doing the same pretty clearly isn't going to create change. Maybe nothing will, but don't put down those that want to do it a different way for a change, as the old way of no donors or attendance clearly doesn't work at UNT (see Benford retainmemt as the perfect example). As far as unintentional consequences, what could possibly be worse than your suggestion of UNT just dropping athletics? Bottom line. Support it, don't support it, but don't criticize those on either side. Both are just frustrated and want change. Not being critical, it's just not my cup of tea. People need to do what they feel they need to do. You're right. Support it or don't.

The losing culture at UNT continues. That said, I've never liked airing our dirty laundry in public. There can be long term, unintended consequences to that, like negitively impacting recruiting. After all, this situation is not Littrell's fault. Or Benford's for that matter. Money, or lack therof, talks. A lot of us will no longer donate or buy season tickets. Let those Red numbers stick out like a sore thumb and we'll see what happens. Apathy is the worse thing that can happen in any relationship, even one like this. We long timers have joined the rank in file and have turned off to UNT athletics. If Administration and/or the BOR are apathetic as well, so be it. Scap athletics and focus on academics. There are other sports venues to follow, if that is your passion.

Rick Stansbury Likely Next WKU Head Coach

Our university doesn't know how to at least act big time, much less be big time. Never has, probably never will. Small thinking = underachieving and a culture of losing. -

If practices are closed, why post an ad with the practice schedule? They should just go ahead and close the spring game as well for that matter. -
Doesn't spring practice start today?

Hiring Gillespie would give us instant cred and probably wouldn't cost that much either. I wonder if RV knew he was at Ranger?
