I guess since I saw Josh scrimage with our guys (w/o coaches) I will try to give my 2 cents on the "skill part" of the above thoughts. He looked tenative under the basket, ran better than Tony, BIG BONED player ( could put on /lose weight if needed), didn't have skills under the basket that only playing & seeing others play will impart to him, needed mentoring on moves (ie. Franklin was talking to him lots),didn't seem to have bad traits developed though. Now, I guess, with the coaches being new, some don't know that our coaches do know about painting on an empty canvas. If so,talk to coach Evans & Tony to see what they have done to keep Mitchell here- you would be blown away if you did see their plan for Tony's growth this year (ie. they have a binder full of things that Tony needs to work on). Remember -they had to convince Tony's mother that it was in his interest to stay at NT. Just like Josh's mother needed convincing, she saw a real plan from the coaches that could appriciate a good basketball player or one with potential to be a good player. Otherwise you are saying they do not know what's best for their players. He'll need teaching and my take is that we NOW have the teachers in the coaches offices after talking to them & seeing their plans. I pray they stay a long time because they will be successful in the future some place.

Omaha, NE Friday night & South Ala Sat.

I was told by kin in NE to fly to KC. It's cheaper too! -
Plum- you the man. I was shocked one year during basketball season when Jack asked for the keys during the game to "show" it to another guy. I meet them at half & it was a supprise birthday party in it for me. The reason I brought this up is that it was like a college prank since so many people showed up & squeeeeezzzzed into it. We are not getting older but better. Seeing Eric's setup I'm just wondering what I might think of in my spart time about traveling to our CUSA TX members next year? Wonder if i COULD FILL UP SOMETHING leaving from central Texas?

North Texas NCAA Statistical Rankings after wk 2
Mo Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Talking to the Justin before 2-a-days, he was excited that our cb's had speed and reactions that we have been missing last year. They are learning fast. Our coaches excpect much more from this bunch of dbs as time goes by. LSU was a real wakeup call & a great learning environment. It's gona' be fun in Kansas this weekend. I'm looking for a much improved game both on defen/offen. We must have plays that we can pull out of a hidden plan that we have not used until this time(?). Or if we don't, does this mean that the O can't perform at a higher level? I miss Hayden's offense. GMG -
Looking at the decks on the back- its just begging for our dancers to be on top- that should make the eagle fly a little higher the 22nd! Beat ksu GMG

All those people that helped on the Green bus really did a great job. It must of taken lots of time and energy. May you have many fun hours of tailgating in the future at games. How was the Mean Green Football you got as a bus warming present- Eric?

I met Josh this last Friday afternoon at the superpit. He is about the same height as Tony (little taller than the kid from NC).He had 2X big ear-rings on that PM. Coach Evans (happy birthday Coach- they had a birthday party & cake around 5 that day) said that josh's Mom said that Josh needed a mentor. Coach Evans & Tony fit the bill. Evidentually Mom has lots of pull ( she came up Saturday for the game & sealed the deal). I saw them work scrimage W/O coaches & Josh was given lots of chances to show his grit. The one that impressed me going against Tony was the guy form NC. He's overweight but is a bull under the basket. I saw him use his forearm to push Tony away & did a hook in the paint that impressed several. Coleman looks like a body builder type. All of 6'10". Saw some other people there but Evans told me that Josh would go with us & he did. Way to go coaches. The new point guard isn't one to shoot, He like to look for a pass into the paint. Benford loves meaty kids in the paint when you look at this team. Although some need to lose weight. -
Looking at the HJ's QB hit again it was Cantly(96) not 99. GMG

UNT Defensive Stats week 1: Laramie Lee w/11!~
Mo Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
This is what I expected to read & see people talking about the development of a strong defense like we saw in the early 2000's. Dan lives & believes in a strong defense. Buy the way, I thought our defensive line, all be it undersized & slower compared to theirs, played as good as can be expected ( Thanks Nelly). Our defensive backs made less errors as the game went on- great ( fast learners & good speed). Thet really learned fast against a quality team. The coverage was better than we have seen in several years w/o any experience in the defensive bf. Buy the way, after the our defense figures out our defensive coordinator's game plan the score was 17 to our 14 and was as a good even game. What makes me wonder is the offense. Talking to Chico in March I asked him if he copied the Tides game with lsu. He said he did. We talked about the passes to the tight ends & delayed passes out of the backfield to work against their speed rushing. Two complete passes to the tight ends (yes Powers dropped a wide open pass). While I understand the first half, 2 yds/run, I was wondering if anyone saw much change in our rushing/passing game the second half. We were pretty much waited until third down to throw when you have a long yardage need. I wondered if we would of used more delayed passes to the backs/TE's maybe we might of made it a better score & kept their offense off the field. The best thing I saw was that we were better conditioned than lsu & it really showed. -
You know our good young athletes will learn lots more Saturday than they will learn on the 8th against tsu. Best of luck in Red Stick Mean Green. Justin is excited about Whitfield (ie. Zack is raw though). GMG

So, Grant, sum up the athletic dept. in your mind. It sounds that you are just fine with what's happening there?
-
Stoj is redshirting. It took me a second to accept another Ken Washington(LB) on the team, but he's on defense so it's fine.
