Smith is nothing special, I still remember watching the NO Bowl live in 2002 and just watching Smith running and told my wife watch where the pass goes and boom he hit his man to bad it was right in the numbers of a Cincy CB, we were just lucky that one of their guys got called for push to the back 15 yards behind the TD run or else we might have been 0-3 in the Big Easy. Hopefully the competition will be fair and even if it is Byerly DD better play the best man, forget this seniority s**t!!

Funny how some of these schools work, kid is on 36 months probation, but OK State has no qualms with taking him. At least UNT runs a clean program. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/news;_ylc=X3...ov=ap&type=lgns Reports say Curry to sign with Oklahoma State May 4, 2004 STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- The leading scorer in North Carolina high school basketball history appears ready to sign with Oklahoma State after the Tar Heels rescinded his scholarship over a drug conviction. JamesOn Curry, who visited campus last weekend, could sign as early as Tuesday, according to published reports. ``They really want him, and they did a good job coming in and recruiting him,'' Curry's high school coach, John Moon, told the Tulsa World. ``And he loved his visit out there,'' Moon said, adding, ``and when I talked to him (Sunday) night, you could just feel the excitement and enthusiasm that he had for Oklahoma State.'' Curry, a 6-foot-3 guard, pleaded guilty April 5 to six felony counts: two each of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana; two each of the sale of marijuana and two each of delivering marijuana. North Carolina coach Roy Williams pulled his scholarship offer two days later. He was kicked off his high school team after his February arrest. Curry, 18, was sentenced to 36 months of probation; various fines, including $600 for lab fees to test the marijuana; $200 in court costs and 200 hours of community service. Curry could not be reached for comment. Moon said he believes Curry's legal troubles were a one-time mistake. ``I feel like Oklahoma State is getting a great kid and a great player, and he's getting a great coach and a great situation,'' Moon said. Curry scored 3,307 points at Eastern Alamance High School, averaged 40.3 points per game and scored 40 points or more 24 times. He holds 14 North Carolina high school records. Curry would join Julius Lamptey and Aaron Pettway in the Cowboys' recruiting class.

Although I liked Trilli somewhat is basketball coaching skills left a lot to be desired. JJ is on the right path lets give him another 2-3 years and then decide if the axe should fall.

From UNT Athletics Site: Mean Green Basketball Signs Eastern Oklahoma State’s Simpson DENTON ( 4/22/04 ) – North Texas head basketball coach Johnny Jones has announced that Eastern Oklahoma State College’s Jeffrey Simpson has signed a National Letter of Intent to play with the Mean Green. A 6-8, 210-pound center, Simpson averaged 10.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game last season, helping lead the Mountaineers to a 22-9 record and to the Region II Semifinals. Simpson shot 58 percent from the field and 62 percent at the free throw line his sophomore season. “Jeffrey brought excitement and energy to our program the past two seasons,” said Eastern Oklahoma State head coach Jimmy Voight. “We are excited that he has chosen to become a part of coach Johnny Jones’ basketball program at the University of North Texas . He can provide an inside scoring presence and can score on the low post or in transition as he runs the floor extremely well. He is a shot blocker with his length and jumping ability. He chose the University of North Texas over school such as TCU, Houston , New Mexico State and IUPUI.” “Jeffrey Simpson will be a great addition to our program,” said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones. “He has the ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor. His shot-blocking ability will give us a much needed defensive presence inside, and offensively his ability to score around the basket will help fill the vacancy left by Shawnson Johnson and Will Smith.” Simpson becomes part of the 2003-04 singing class that includes two high school standouts and two additional junior college transfers. Simpson joins Michael Sturns (North Crowley HS; Fort Worth , Tex. ), Quincy Williams (Carl Albert HS; Midwest City , Okla. ), Isaac Hines (Collin County [TX] CC; Dallas , TX ) and Chris White (Moberly Area [MO] CC; Huntsville , Ala. ) in the class.

This group looks pretty strong but unless JJ plans on playing small ball he needs to find a 6'8" guy somewhere even if he is a project, he can be worked on. -
