Interesting about Akron, wonder if that is for future or for 2006, might be another winnable OOC since Frye is gone. Also funny they neglected to list LaTech and Tulsa as OOC games this year.

Don't forget the HC also, although I thought the spuds showed some interests before Erickson fell in their lap -
UNT looking for running backs coach AGAIN
untbowler replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
thinking the same thing, does the Athletic's Department even have staff outside of coaches and the AD, maybe the occassional PT Webmaster. -
Apparently in his 30 min conversation with a poster he does take the OOC games seriously.

look at the whole athletic picture not just football and those teams have passed us. Outside of soccer we are not competitive with anyone out side of the Sun Belt among the major 12 conferences, just take a look at the results this year. In fact we are maybe middle of the pack in the Sun Belt over all athletics. but once again would not facts to get in the way of the green kool-aid. I'll shut up now and be another lemming.

Longer than Marshall, UCF, USF, Troy, FAU, Boise St., etc....... and they have all passed us 4 Sun Belt Titles or not. With the exception of FAU they have all been to bowl games and at some point have dominated their respective leagues, much like what we did from 2001-2004. Look where they have gone and look where we have gone. I think for many of us are tired of seeing lower schools go zooming by while we are stcuk in 1st or 2nd. Call that complaining if you want too.

Governor appoints two UNT regents, reappoints anot
untbowler replied to Baby Arm!'s topic in Mean Green Football
Guess I do not understand why UNT alums are not appointed, instead we get outsiders, kinda like our beloved Chancellor -
I could not agree with you more.
-
all relative to geography few outside of SW region will know North Texas, as SE would know those 3 schools. Troy is more national due to their OOC wins. FAU has beaten us 2 straight years in F-B and in tennis this year, they join full-time next year. FIU should have beaten us last year and they are up their in other sports. If they have not passed us then they are very close.
-
For the same reason we should have worried about FAU, FIU, and Troy who have all passed us in Athletic Accomplishments. TX state and UTSa with the right leadership can easily pass us if they made the committment to 1-A football and athletics. We might be 1-A but we run our programs as if we are 1-AA or worse.
-
Exactly the truth hurts a little bit but hey every coach here is a nice person and deserves a job b/c there are no losers, everyone is a winner.
-
oh man it would be to easy but we have the 4x Time Sun Belt coach of the year and I won't complain right now.

What should be the prototype program?
untbowler replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
as well as they don't call plays, adjust in games, or recruit players. I love how everyone wants to continually shift the blame for poor seasons away from the coaches. I guess it is the admins fault the golf team finished next to last this weekend in Laredo, the admins fault that the tennis team has lost 8 straight, the admins fault that the swim porgram has done nothing, etc...... -
Numbers are numbers still, maybe if they would do another push the numbers could continue to rise, but marketing skills are obviously lacking within the Athletic's Department Doubtful DD and company should really be considered the catalyst for the current attendance. This year we should see a better number especially with La. Tech and SMU on the home schedule. We shall see how far we have come or declined depending on one's view of the glass.
-
Hmm looks like ole Matt simon had better attendance could it be maybe it he did not tear into the fans?

Thanks for the insight GREENBACKS, I am sure every coach in America uses the same bunker mentality. Thats great I can see Spurrier, Holtz, Paterno calling all of their best fans MF'rs. What a classy university we have here
-
Like said earlier it is a shame our AD and BOR have done nothing to even try and get the fans interested. NO meetings, no suspensions of employees for assault, I am beginning to wonder why do we even have an AD if he refuses to discipline staff or is not allowed the power that an AD should have. Does UNT even want athletics b/c at this point I think the answer is starting to look pretty damn obvious.
-
Then DD better hope he never makes it to a big school if he worries about only 15K b/c then he will have 60K chewing on him and if so he might seek a more friendly job placement. I am glad to hear he helps out and appreciates a small select group of fans but when will we hear about DD and his Coaches going out into the Community and pushing UNT Athletics? Most of the time we only see the paper and the somewhat backhanded compliments.
-
I do not see your point if he is calling fans names to his players it opnly instills the us v. the world mentality that has been prevalent. Does not matter how fair weather some fans are they are still fans and if these were the words used then it only further shows that DD could care less about gaining community support. IMO so you can rip me all you want.

Nevada is a well established program now so they deserve their high seedings. also Utah State has had a very program for the last 5-6 years or so. If WKU would have won the SunBelt they might have gotten a 10-11 seed but USA upset changed all of that.

Nice to see someone tell it like it is and not hide the facts.

Here is an answer regarding recruiting classes. They do not mean **** if there is not a coach around who can coach them. I have seen nothing from JJ that shows he is the man to break us into the Top 200 much less the Top 100 teams in the nation. Slinker has some many talented players come thru and their talent was wasted. What has DD done in recruiting outside of the Class with Kassell, Booger, etc.. Outside of Soccer there is not much to cheer about in UNT athletics. We have head coaches in positions when they are better suited being an assistant. Everyone keeps throwing the facilities as to why we should be looking up for athletics, facilities can only do so much, then the gold goes away and we are left with the same messy administration from the past. I was a huge supporter of RV when he came in and I still support him but for whatever reason not much is getting done in order to turn the whole Athletic Program around, not just Major Sports.

say what you will but look at Nevada, Western Kentucky (yes they are 1-AA) look at B-Ball, The MVC schools. There are a ton of schools with lower budgets that do much better than UNT, they may not be BCS but they are at the top of their league. As for recruiting classes we have heard the same song and dance for the last 5 years, this recruiting class will be better, but every year it is the same. Guess b/c I am not the lemming following the group my head is in the sand.
