  1. Harry is correct this is a great hire, hopefully they will post the hiring on the website soon . Unfortunately he might have an uphill battle with only a few players left. Not sure if correct I have heard of one player being signed prior to his arrival and if so not a strong signing. Hopefully he can bring the team together and get a few recruits in, then produce some great results hopefully sooner than 4-6 years. As for Texas yes it has some players but the best players in the state will go to A&M, UT, TCU, or SMU leaving scraps for the rest. Open up the doors and left him recruit.
  2. FYI it is a HE!! He is originally from Nepal I will reiterate though that this is a great hire. Experience at Ill., plus several years at Florida when they were a perennial Top 3 team. I am excited for the school and the future of the tennis team.
  3. Just cruious why hasn't Athletics updated their website to show the hire (front page not tennis section). Seems like a great hire but unless you get DMN you do not know about it.
  4. Excellent hire by RV IMO. We have the most experienced coach now in the Sun Belt as far as level and close in years. At one time he had the Illinois Women as a high as #16 in the nation. Only coach close in tournament experience and ability would be the FIU coach. Very happy for the tennis team as long as AD committment is there.
  5. looks like a great hire, now hopefully RV will take the reigns off and let him recruit openly and not just Texas and local areas. Lots of transfers and foereign players needing places to go. This is the type of hire we should have had 5 years ago, there was time before the Spring season had started, but AW waited until the Spring and 3 matches (Asst. Coach and Academic Advisor had to travel for the first 3 matche in Abilene) and then did not do a search. Just happy to see this hire again look like the best coach in the Sun Belt right now with experience and tournament experience, closest rival would be FIU coach, previous USA coach is now at Baylor (Joey Scrivano). Good Luck Ladies!!
  6. NAH!!!! No way, not at UNT. we are absolutely happy where we are and besides all those other schools have we do not have. Remember this is the toughest place to work at from experience
  7. He is the current men's assistant at TCU (he started the College of Sanata Fe program from scratch and coached 5 NAIA All-Americans, but I am afraid that they might be looking for a female coach. BTW there is nothing wrong with a female coach as along as they are experienced and well prepared (i.e FAU, FIU, Denver coaches). One really good thing Dawna did ws make connections into the PNW and SW regions picking up several good players from the regions (Schmulbach, Royer, Sammis' sisters, Aziza, and Wasson) hopefully those connections can be used some more. Sometimes the lower Super Champ players can slide thru the cracks, I think the new coach will probably go for some transfers or if allowed maybe 1-2 foreign players. Tennis recruiting can be funny since in Texas State Tournament is not until May so a lot coaches wait to see who might be hiding out in thru 1A-3A portions, sometimes find a diamond in the rough there. Hopefully whoever does come in will be allowed to promote the sport to the city of Denton. I did not get to make it, but heard the Tennis Block Party they had at the New Courts brought in 150 kids/Parents, of course this was sponsored by the Tennis Club and not by Athletics
  8. I know about the JUCO through a coach friend, as for the frosh if she is homesick then that is sad but happens all of the time. I think Greenster knows more than most. I hear from present tennis coaches and other ex-coaches around the area. One candidate that I hope UNT interviews would be great. I assume a decision should be coming soon, hopefully with the season around the corner. To bad no coach right now with The Summer Grand Slam happening down in College Station.
  9. Not that it matters here but saw SHSU just hired their coach: http://www.gobearkats.com/tennis/coach.html Also UTA ended up promoting their assistant. Sounds like some good candidates in the pool here considering who did not make it to the interview process.
  10. on a side note: did Dawna sign any players before she left? I heard she was looking possibly at a JUCO player from a CC in Florida, who lost to the #2 from NCTC. Also what about the Hungarian player signed in the Fall, but I assume the TOEFL fell thru. I forgot there was an open scholarship this semester so guess right now 3 scholies are open. Hopefully the new coach can hit the transfer wires and pick up some players there, some good players there and a few international players are available, hopefully the pipeline from TJC can be opened up again.
  11. Guess that explains why the Top Freshman left, one of the JUCO transfers wanted to leave at semester. Yeah it is all the fans faults, like everything else at UNT. Doesn't really matter you guys were all friends so the green-tinted glasses are in high use. As for your comment on Denver, your right they are totally different situations, UNT stayed static and Denver skyrocketed, why wouldn't we want to use them as a model, unless ths status quo is all we seek.
  12. fair-weather fan, your opinion, or not I do not count the success by wins and losses. You can schedule Tx State, Lamar, Idaho level schools plus a few JUCO's and there are you wins. Look at how UNT compares to other schools and the progression. UNT should be ahead of Arkansas State and UALR but they have lost to them regularly. I hope they would have been able to hang in and follow Denver's lead but they blew past us. At least the team did not lose to UNO again. Still could not get by NMSU. They lost to SHSU who was behind UNT years ago. Finally hope they would have at some point been competitive with a Top 75 program but 6-1, 7-0 losses are not competitive. Again much like Football and Basketball if your left wanting more your just a fair-weather fan. Guess I'll just deal with the shame of being labeled a fair-weather fan
  13. One has to wonder why so many players left then during her five years. Lost one going into 2001 to SFA, one going into 2002 transfer to NW Region, 1 going into 2003 believe stayed home, lost one headed in 2005 at last second, lost one at the end of Fall 2005. Lose another at end of 05-06, plus one who was ready to leave after only one semester. Yes tennis has a lot of transfers but that is a large amount. Plus there was not an overly glowing endorsement from the previous coach. Main reason she is gone probably is due to the lack of progression of the program compared to other programs of similar level at the time. Oh well gone now and best of luck with Baylor.
  14. Probably some loony Faculty Members and Students figured it infringed on their Free Speech and thus the program died off like others
  15. Your talking about the Baylor Men, they have been exonerated everytime it gets brought up, also reason why NCAA changed the age loophole since many of the players were going out and playing ATP Tournaments and with Foreign players they could earn money there and also in the Club Tennis thru out Europe. It is similar to the women, but they are not as rampant, but Baylor is basically a mini-Czech national team.
  16. Oh well, best of luck to her as an Assistant @ Baylor. Obviously you never had to work with her, just ask her four previous Assistant Coaches and players. kinda surprising hire considering who they had in prior (a former Top 25 NCAA player from UT). Oh well lets see if UNT can make a good hire. I am and many others will not be biting our tongues, this next hire will be all RV.
  17. 3-4 means more than 1 player is not returning. They graduate 1 (Ingrid) and I heard one was leaving. I sure hope it is not 3-4.
  18. Will a $1 per decal be sufficient for shipping?? I'll take two and send via PayPal later tonight. Thanks
  19. Latest news I have heard is they have extended interviews to whom I do not know, should be interresting on who they hire. The coach should have 1-2 scholarships available to recruit with, although it is getting late on the recruiting scene.
  20. yes I know the law, pointing out that an 18 year old is no longer considered a kid anymore. The teacher if true was breaking the law by abusing her power, but an 18 year old is IMO much different than a 14 year old, either way a crime may have been committed.
  21. This kid was 18, but your point is well taken.
  22. I think the Allies allowing the German Machine to steamroll Poland, Czechoslovakia, and other counties in Central Europe with little fight also helped the Germans in that they used little supplies and lost very few soldiers. If more of fight could have been put up in these places maybe Hitler would have backed off some, but he was very ambitious on his goals, whether we agree with them or not.
  23. I knew Hitler had tested winters, but was unsure of Napoleon so just kept it at Russians. Thanks for the correction
  24. Eerily similar circumstances to Hitler trying to march into Russia also that turned the tide of WWII. If the Russian were not so strong Napoleon and Hitler both might have gained even more power and staying power. Scary thought.
  25. remember UNT will be hosting the Tennis Tournament next Spring, this great for UNT and some much needed new exposure to the UNT facilities.
