I agree with you guys, putting the university down town would be a bad idea. It defeats the purpose of having an independant university. If UNT wanted to offer some classes for people in the downtown area, then we could use the building. Otherwise, stay with what we have.

I’m basically shooting for May 10th (Graduation Day!!!!) Since this is a graduate degree and I’m commuting, I get all the hard stuff about college, but none of the fun stuff. Oh, well, I’m so anxious I can’t stand it.

UTD is a great school for some programs. At one time they had the 2nd highest SAT scores for incoming freshman for a public school in the nation. Second only to Berkley. They are more technology oriented, but have other strong programs. They consider themselves (right or wrong) to be the MIT of the UT System.

I have a hard time differentiating between what is a bad movie and movies I just don’t like. For instance, I liked many of the movies that are listed above. I figure if I paid money to see a movie, I’m going to give it every opportunity to entertain me in some way. Hover, I did see Breakin’ 2, Electric Bugaloo at the theater. It was really bad. Grease 2 was pretty bad, however, I have to tolerate it because my wife watches it about ever 3 months. Sliver, with Sharon Stone was kind of dumb. Anyway, you shouldn’t comment on any movie that you haven’t seen. It’s hard to tell from commercials. I wasn’t all that impressed with Spiderman, but from the trailer it looked like the best movie ever. Also, kid’s movies should not be considered. There are a lot of kids movies that are bad, but kids love them because of their simplicity. Why do I keep writing?

Hey Eaglechick03, hang in there. I'm sure they will work with you to either let you in the classes you need or substitute something. So you are going to graduate in May ’03? An exciting time, don’t let this get you down. I’ve attended 4 universities over the past 14 years and they all have their problems. With you registering this early, you will get first dibs on overflow. Plus, some people will drop the classes anyway. Good Luck!

Are you saying 15% graduation rate is not good? I understand a certain amount of player will go pro and not graduate, but that's a very small amount. What's the graduation rate of the general student population? 50% to 60%? What a waste of scholarships.

My father-in-law graduated from SMU. Wait a minute, he never seems to work and has lots of money. Now I know!

Reb, very nice explanation of your feelings. I understand now what you are getting at. Yes, student/athletes do owe something back to their university. What that is, I don’t know, but I see how hard it is to describe. I think I took offence because I transferred during undergrad from Baylor to UNT. Baylor is a fine school, my brother has two degrees and my wife graduated from there in August, but it wasn’t for me. I transferred to UNT after my sophomore year and fell in love with the diversity and laid back feeling at UNT. I guess I realize that I made a mistake to go to Baylor at 18 and I don’t want to hold others to a higher standard than I hold myself. As far as loyalty to the university… We have a retired city manager that volunteers where I work. He told me several months ago that he felt obligated to support vocally and financially his alma mater because that school gave him a lifestyle that he could not have had otherwise. That statement really shook me. I graduated from UNT in 92 and will finish my masters this May. After I graduated and up until a few months ago, I never participated in anything “UNT” other than going to grad classes the last two years. I griped about parking and book prices and everything else. When that retired city manager spoke those words, it completely changed my viewpoint. I’m going to try to make up for those years of ignoring UNT and support the university with all my might. I don’t know why I chose to go on and on, but I guess I just needed to get it off my chest. Reb, thanks for your support of our university and your updates of the soccer program. My daughter, age 7, plays soccer. I’m not sure she will make it through college on a soccer scholarship but she sure enjoys it.

I have a real problem being so hard on kids and they decisions they make. Why does it matter why this girl transferred? A person’s right to choose is the building block of this country. It’s ridiculous to speculate or condemn this girl for choosing another school over UNT. Baylor is a fine school. So what if their soccer program is not good in someone’s opinion? Reb, I usually enjoy your posts, but this one is questionable.

DeepGreen, thanks from me also. I watched We Were Soldiers on Monday night. I was very impressed. My wife was telling me that the guys who wrote the book did so because they were tired of Viet Nam movies making it out to be a big party. Platoon was a great movie. Did you see Hamburger Hill? I’ve heard some veterans say it was fairly realistic. Thanks again! Nice post IronMan.
