  1. Cold Mountain was a very good film. The opening act was bordering on dreadful, but once you hit the 40 minute mark or so the film improved dramatically. Really well acted all aound(Renee's win was well earned), and technically superior. The cinematography especially was top notch.
  2. I'll call him right up guys.
  3. As I said before I never root for UT at anything if I can help it(there are maybe 2 schools higher up on my despise list). Even though I live in CA now, I'll always consider myself a Texan. But I will NEVER root for the Longhorns if I can help it.
  4. It was pretty big news out here - since Fullerton is about an hour(give or take) away from Los Angeles. It takes alot for me to root for UT in anything, and I definitely was pulling for CSFU. As was said, we share alot with them really(including a huge enrollment, but next to no press or alumni backing). Congrats Titans.
  5. Preach it brutha.
  6. Last night I was at an early screening of Sky Captain and the World of Tommorrow a thowback to the serials of the 30's and 40's. It was hokey, over the top, and alot of fun. It comes out in September.
  7. Eh, non FB stuff gets posted there all the time - some non BB stuff here is no biggie.
  8. Eh, Los Angeles took it pretty well. I think the city was expecting it after Game 4. I'm terribly pleased that I didn't have to hear folks celebrating in the streets like I did two years ago. Oh, and as much as I hate the Lakers, this is still nothing compared to watching the Yanks fall.
  9. Funny you ask Plumm...I was thinking about it. Though I'm not 100% sure where it is, I believe it's an hour(depending on traffic) away from my pad.
  10. I didn't find TOTS *bad*, but it wasn't very memorable. I saw it the first time around a year or so ago I guess - and have spent very little time reflecting on it. It's come on STARZ and it's affiliates numerous occasions, and I've watched a few minutes here and there, but it just doesn't hold my interest. Like I said, not a waste of time in the sense that Battlefield Earth (or name your bomb) is, but in some ways worse because with the truly bad ones, they're seared into your memory. This one just isn't.
  11. Tears of the Sun is the definition of mediocre. Not even in the same league as BHD.
  12. They moved the US release date for that thing so many times, it's hysterical. Interestingly it has been seen elsewhere- and in film festivals. I'm not sure it'll ever be released in domestic theatres. It'd probably be easier to get a copy off of ebay.
  13. I also highly recommend both Monster and Mystic River.
  14. I'd say the athletes in the best shape are the cyclists that compete in the Tour de France. Most of those stages are like 60+ miles and the race lasts a whole month. That's hard to comprehend.
  15. I'd say decathletes are the best athletes on the planet. To be world class in 10 different events? No WAY can anyone top that. As to the original point of this thread. I really don't enjoy the NBA anymore - even though college basketball is still FAR AND AWAY my favorite sport. I'd rather watch the Stanley Cup playoffs anyday.
  16. Personally I prefer SPR. BoB has a far "bigger" story it's trying to tell, but it's not terribly focused. Still classic television though.
  17. Wow..this could be very big...
  18. Well...at least we have a replacement coach now.
  19. This is a big one, I hope he turns out well for us.
  20. You mean MASTER and Commander..not Captain and Commander. RTP is among my all-time favorites. It just got me to me on a level that most movies don't. Both tragic mob revenge story and a heartwarming father/son tale. I loved the way it walked that line. The cinematography is brilliant. Sadly it was Conrad Hall's last film. One of the truly great cinematographers of movie history(3 Oscars).
  21. Dude, and to think of how often you made of my movie obsession. The best films listed so far(for my money) are Memento, Usual Suspects, and Fight Club. Though just about everything mentioned is worth a look. My favorite film of '04...and maybe the best I've seen in several years...Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. That movie has more truth about love, loss, memory, and their collective importance to us as human beings than any movie I've ever seen. A flat out masterpeice.
  22. Yeah, all four were good movies - though I think Suicide Kings is the weakest. The best was GWH, but all are worth a look. I'm a film nut(duh, look at the industry I'm in) and see/enjoy way too many movies to list here.
  23. Most video stores have a limited foreign film library. But some of the more independednt stores(ie not a chain) have the best.
