  1. If we win the league this year we can't really fire Coach Dickey. That would be five conference titles in 6 years. So if you want DD gone root against NT the remainder of the year. I am hoping we win conference. Just don't offer a contract extension. If we don't win the SBC then maybe it is time to change - maybe not. Conference titles and bowl games mean more than OOC games. You know I've met people out here that actually say "Hey didn't you play in a Bowl game?" I doubt folks wearing Troy stuff out here get ppl telling them nice loss to Florida State. That said I would like OOC wins, and it's getting beyond frustrating. Until the end of the season I'm not willing to say Dickey should be gone or that he should stay.
  2. Special teams coverage more like.
  3. Those kickoff returns hurt even more now than they did about 2 hours ago.
  4. Special teams and defense have really let us down. Usually they are what we can hang our hat on.
  5. Nice drive. This game has been way more about our defense not showing up than the offense's stagnation.
  6. Sunbelt play can't come soon enough. I'm glad Middle Tennessee is next, since I can see us getting up for that game.
  7. No. Honestly I can't remember the last time ANYONE scored 100. I know Houston got 90 something vs SMU in the early 90's.
  8. Considering we didn't exactly have many winning seasons before Dickey(the last one was in 1-AA in '94) it's hard to say it was all his rubble.
  9. I believe this was '03. I was not at this Bonfire. If I recall correctly, Latham sent me pictures because I felt so bad about missing it.
  10. Actually we warned ppl of that every year as far back as '96(I'm sure longer, but that would be pre-my era). Apparently the magnets on the Denton firetruck that babysat the fire routinely melted off, but I heard that 2nd hand.
  11. I was thinking maybe 40+ feet wide and somewhere around 30 feet high. I believe that was the year Gus came out and said --- "There can be nothing over this" ---- While pointing to a rod that was sticking out of one of the poles. I went one level over that, just enough to hide said rod.
  12. The 2001 Bonfire was definitly the biggest one - partially by accident - of recent memory. And that thing was hotter than hell, even as Bonfires go.
  13. Yeah, that worked so well during the Trilli years.
  14. The conference is probably going to be pretty even this season, so a 2nd place finish in our division is very possible. So is a 4th or 5th however.
  15. That's great to hear guys!! I know how devastated we all were when it was cancelled in 2000. I wish I could make it this year, but if I roll thru town it's gonna be for my HS reunion this year. Two massive trips would be too much on me finacinally(not to mention I doubt I could get that much time off work with the holidays also around the corner). Then again none of yall current people probably know who the hell I am...haven't been able to make a Homecoming since '02(last year was more bad luck than anything since they changed the date AFTER I bought tickets). Oh how I miss Bonfire though.
  16. LMAO
  17. Their basketball program was their ticket into the Big East(more than FB anyways). Just look at all the schools the BE admitted. Several were BB only - that's a hoops league first and foremost. However, Louisville had been dumping money into their football squad as well, and as a result quickly improved. And now with the Big East being such a weak FB conference top to bottom - they have a chance to win the league every year. It's basically Louisville, WVU, & everyone else.
  18. Perhaps then you'd realize we were discussing UNC not NC State Plumm.
  19. Dear God, Auburn would be jobbed twice for the same season if that happened.
  20. I guess Auburn would become National Champions? War Damn Eagle!
  21. John Bunting is the current head football coach at the University of North Carolina has achieved a stellar career record of 24-36 at that institution. An ACC school. If you don't remember, UNC has had some farly recent gridiron success, some bowl games in the late 90's and what not(remember Mack Brown?). So it's not like they should have bottom of the barrel expectations there. And his record is 24-36, and from what I understand safe. So, please, we're not the only school that has held onto a struggling coach that we see potential in. If you recall, last year I pointed out similar stats that Coach Dickey shares with the coach at Northern Illinois - if you wanna compare Mid Major to Mid Major.
  22. I guess I meant in the Pat Hill era, which is when they have gained their most notoriety. And I forgot FSU shared the title in '99 with TCU that season. Arguably though their real press started in '00 or '01 - that's when all those QB's started rolling thru.
  23. Bingo. His was one of the more pathetic rants I've ever read.
  24. They have the opposite problem of us. They get TOO up for the "big time" opponents, and don't have enough left for their conference games. I was at the Colesium when they scared SC(and believe me, Trojans in attendence were scared). They then lost something like 3 straight afterwards.
  25. Troy is the Belt's version of Fresno State. Plays the big time schools well, but can't win conference. It's amazing that the Bulldogs never have won the WAC, you'd think they would've, but even with all those upsets, near upsets, and top 25 rankings, they haven't.
