  1. Exactly. It's kinda like a tennis tournament...the high seeded players tend to win a couple of rounds before they get challenged. And also, we may only get about one upset of a 1-3 seed a year -- but that doesn't mean we don't get another scare or two. This year has been relatively light on upsets so far though. Also, I should hasten to add...blowouts happen in the tournament even with two fairly evenly matched teams. Utah State was a trendy "upset" pick (a 10 over a 7 isn't really that much of an upset normally). UCLA threw them down an elevator shaft last night.
  2. There are more close calls (and upsets) of 1-3 seeds than people give credit for. Nearly every year we get one.
  3. SDSU did just make the Final a couple of years ago.
  4. I wouldn't say Memphis embarrassed the conference. It is surely disappointing, but it's not like they were thrown down an elevator shaft - the game was in doubt with under five minutes left. CSU had also won nine in a row prior to today, so they weren't slouches.
  5. He just put up 42 in a game last week.
  6. I was concerned that CSU might be a really tough match up for Memphis.
  7. They have a lot of heavy hitters gong tomorrow.
  8. Not unless he goes for 40+ a night throughout the rest of the NIT run ending with a championship in Indy.
  9. Better seeds host unless their arena is scheduled for other purposes. So if SMU keeps winning, we go there unless they've already rented out Moody for something.
  10. You can deny it all you want, but it doesn't even have to be 12s or 13s playing 1s and getting housed. Connecticut last year beat 16 seed Stetson by 39. Okay so they don't belong in your view. In the Sweet 16 Connecticut defeated (5) San Diego State by 30 and then (3) Illinois by 25 (UCONN only won by 17 in the 2nd round).
  11. McNeese barely holds on after nearly blowing a 20+ point lead. Great win by them.
  12. I'd say 14-16 seeds probably should be beaten badly BECAUSE they're playing top seeds. I remember a few times when a 12 seed won two rounds and then got manhandled by the 1 seed. One seeds are that way for a reason.
  13. Just to continue: In 2018 (1) 16 seed 2016 (1) 15 seed (1) 14 seed 2015 (2) 14 seed So basically in the last ten years, one tournament was cancelled...but otherwise there were just two when at least one 14 or worse seed didn't win a game.
  14. Again, you sound like a Kentucky type snob. I had to go back to 2019 to find a year (because 2020 was cancelled obviously) when a seed 14 or worse didn't win a game. 2024: (1) 14 seed 2023 (1) 15 seed (1) 16 seed (a First Four one at that!) 2022 (1) 15 seed (Made the Regional Final) 2021 (1) 15 seed (1) 14 seed
  15. If you're gonna do away with those games, instead of dropping those schools, I'd rather all the First Four be bubble teams playing each other. The current two and two was a compromise between those who wanted all four to be 16s against each other and those who argued for all four games to involve bubble teams.
  16. NC State should be a top 20-25 type job. I know you have to compete with both UNC and Duke, but State has a helluva tradition all their own.
  17. Sounds like the kind of crap I'd read on a Kentucky or North Carolina board.
  18. Are you saying not all conferences should get a bid? The NCAA's job is not to get the 68 "best" teams in per se, it's to give every league a chance at the title.
  19. I think maybe you should have realized it on Sunday when the brackets came out.
  20. High Point would probably have had a better shot without the injury, but it's tough to overcome getting outrebounded by 20.
  21. He was just here last night.
  22. I know it's crazy to look too far ahead in a tournament like this (ASU is gonna be hard enough), but UC-Irvine is gonna be tough to defeat if we both get to Indianapolis. I've seen them a couple of times this year and they're really good.
  23. We'd play them in the quarters if we both got that far.
  24. Biggest game in the History of Western Civilization.
  25. So far, ESPN lists the Saturday games as: Bradley @ George Mason and Chattanooga @ Dayton Sunday is: Kent State @ Stanford
