Hinkle is a legendary venue. I've never been, but I'd love to see a game there. As far as the city showing up...maybe? Indiana LOVES basketball.

Actually, I'd argue SDSU has largely done this. Most of the Pac12 interest in the Aztecs, aside from being located in SoCal, is from basketball from what I've read. It's being used to try and get Arizona to stay in the league since their basketball rival (UCLA) is leaving. As far as what schools focus on basketball while playing football. A whole lot! I haven't checked budgets, but even though I am certain Kentucky spends more on football than basketball just because the nature of the sport, basketball is where their bread is buttered. I could name a dozen schools that likewise focus on basketball, but I'm sure you could guess which.

I don't think people are saying we should DROP football. Rather that instead of pouring 75% of our resources into football (honestly I don't know what the number is), maybe carve out another 10% and give it to basketball.

Yeah, it seems it's gonna be like the NCAA Tournament now and move every year. Perhaps it might settle in one city eventually but the next couple of years it's gonna be nomadic.

It's pretty typical. Just like Houston won't get any AAC money since they're leaving.

I still think he has you beat. The fact he had to try the damn key card in on about 30 rooms before he found ours still cracks me up over 20 years later. I also forgot to mention at some point during the night he must have fallen because his glasses fell off and someone stepped on them. So the next day I had to go help him get a replacement pair.

My guess is the Orleans was the only one that really bid on it. Plus, the NCAA (and arguably ESPN) folks wouldn't want any venue too large because it'd just make any lack of crowd look bad on TV.
