  1. Generally banner raisings are done for season openers no matter the day. Funnily enough, we haven't always followed that. After we made the NCAAs in March of 2007, the first game of the next season we didn't raise a banner (it was a Saturday), but waited until the following game...because we had Oklahoma State at home. I believe we did the same thing in 2010-2011...a cupcake for game one and then Banner raising for marquee opponent (Texas Tech) in Game 2. Both of the game ones were on "better" days of the week...Friday/Saturday and both of the Banner raisings were on Tuesday/Wednesday. UNI is a much bigger opponent than Nebraska Omaha.
  2. Congrats Rangers fans.
  3. Let me assure you that the winner of the SWAC regular season isn't getting in the NIT if they don't win their league tournament. The ONLY way they're getting in the NIT is with the auto bid. That's true for about 20 leagues.
  4. Let's put the date on this bad boy and make it the official game thread for next week. Almost time to get this season started. GMG!
  5. There were always at least a handful of schools that won their league regular season title, but didn't win the postseason tourney. They deserve to play in the NIT and they won't now.
  6. One of the greats, but also total jerk. Hard to believe he's gone. A true giant of the game. Robert Montgomery Knight - The General. https://www.aol.com/coaching-legend-bob-knight-famous-223223993.html
  7. Yeah, but that was after MSG had apparently wanted out. The word was that they wanted to be able to host Regional Semis and Finals on a more regular basis (MSG actually very rarely hosted Regionals) and scheduling around having the NCAAs and the NIT made it very tough to also find time for both the Rangers and Knicks to have to be away for multiple weeks.
  8. It wasn't the NIT's decision to leave MSG.
  9. I meant the NIT semis, but yeah the NCAAs as well.
  10. Must have been the semis that included 3 "off brand" schools this year.
  11. That's awful. When they changed the rule 12-15 years ago mandating every regular season champion was assured of a bid in the NIT, that was a tremendous improvement from back in the day when it was more of a free for all. Hell, even the ESPN talking heads thought it was great.
  12. One game for the AL tomorrow. It'll be cool if AZ can force a Game 7 as well. It's been a few years since both Leagues went to seven games.
  13. Losing on the road to a ranked team by a TD is a good effort and we should be proud. Still sucks to lose though, because it was there for the taking.
  14. Great third quarter. Just gotta keep it up for the 4th.
  15. I may watch another game in the second half.
  16. Still can't believe we didn't make them burn their last timeout by running out of bounds.
  17. We went the whole Navy game without committing a single one.
  18. We need to sustain a drive of some sort here.
  19. Not a promising start.
  20. Great experience yesterday. My wife and I arrived pretty early and hung out in the Alumni Pavilion for awhile since it was still really chilly with that wind at 9am. By game time it warmed nicely, so yeah the turnout wasn't the best. I generally only come back to DFW once a year give or take, so it was great to see a big win like that. Offense was running like a well oiled machine through most of the game and the defense was turning Temple over right and left. The eclipse was an extra treat. Got to see some people I hadn't in awhile. About the only thing that went poorly for me is the tops of my legs got sunburned, but that was my own damn fault for wearing shorts.
  21. Not a a done deal because in baseball few things are, but it's looking really good for the Rangers.
  22. That game was ridiculous. I remember we had a successful surprise on-side kick where we got a TD after...and still lost by 2 scores.
  23. The Rangers/Orioles match up is the most intriguing one of the Divisional round (to me), though I suspect the only "bad" series will be the Dodgers/Diamondbacks. The Rangers have the bats to beat anyone, but I really like the young Orioles and their 100+ wins aren't a fluke - they'll be good for the next several years if they can keep the core together.
  24. I think the new coach is probably influencing a lot of the predictions on our quality this coming season. To be fair, it is a huge unknown for people who don't follow us closely. Not a big deal.
  25. I was in Talons...there is no mystical significance. And we were told it was an Student Association decision because Scrappy was too warlike...not that it was our predecessors.
