  1. I am pretty sure that their predictions are computer based predicitons; based on statistics. And based on last year; that's about right. Only when you look at non-quantitative factors (experience at Qb, a healthy Jamario, etc) does the outlook appear more positive.
  2. Did you read his article? And understand it? What he was implying was that the only place left for a player like Bomar is go to to a school that will take a chance on a player with a troubled past because they are so desperate for success. Very much like how UTEP took a chance on Mike Price, as they really wanted a top tier coach. He was not implying that the Sunbelt is full of troubled players.
  3. how 'bout Rudy's Bar-b-que? UNT stuff everywhere; and great food.
  4. I think that Aggies regard most of that as excuses. Fran has brought in some very, very heralded recruiting classes that were loaded with JUCOs that should have helped out immediately. Some of those didn't pan out, and others aren't with the team anymore. I think that Fran will have to have a winning record this year, and beat either OU or UT. Of course the way they are turning things around in Waco; they could really de-rail Fran. Personally, I think Fran is a helluva recruiter; but is not earning his money as a gameday coach.
  5. Here's another story on college recruiting. I think Charlie Brown's dad summed it (recruiting) up best by saying that's somebody is gonna get screqwed in the end.
  6. After writing that I realized that it was the white uniforms that I had trouble differentiating.
  7. Especially when you figure out that your not watching the Tenessee Volunteers.
  8. Reiner had him on teh Ticket the other day, and talked about his days in the 2 o'clock lab band. It was pretty cool.
  9. This is from the Athletic Department's website DENTON (7/12/06) – North Texas running back Jamario Thomas headlined the CollegeFootballNews.com Preseason All-Sun Belt Football Team, taking Offensive Player of the Year as well as top overall athlete honors. Thomas, the 2004 national rushing champion, was one of seven Mean Green players named to the list. The junior, who was hampered by a nagging hamstring injury last season, was named the country’s 24th ranked running back by CFN after racking up 2,162 yards over the last two years. Thomas was joined on the first team by offense lineman Dylan Lineberry, receiver Johnny Quinn and defensive end Jeremiah Chapman. A former Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, Lineberry has paved the way for two straight 1,000-yard rushers. Not only was the senior named the sixth-best overall athlete in the conference, the site listed him as the 22nd ranked offensive guard in the country. Quinn is on the verge of overtaking nearly every receiving record in school history. The senior, ranked by CFN as the 29th best athlete in the conference, has caught a pass in every game of his career (36). Among the nation’s active career receiving leaders, Quinn ranks seventh in touchdowns (17), seventh in yards (2,085) and eighth in catches (130). Quinn was also named to the second-team all-conference as a kick returner. One of only two returning all-conference defensive linemen in the Sun Belt, Chapman led the Mean Green with nine tackles for loss and four quarterback sacks, both of which ranked second among all Sun Belt Conference defensive ends and tied for eighth overall. He started in all 11 games and finished fifth on the team with a career-best 61 total tackles. North Texas linebacker Maurice Holman and punter Truman Spencer were both named to the second team defense. Safety Aaron Weathers, the 2005 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, was ranked the 26th best athlete in the conference. The Mean Green open the 2006 season on Sept. 2 in Austin against University of Texas.
  10. I wouldn't be opposed to kidnapping their pony and branding the Safeway logo onto the pony's backside.
  11. I don't think he is referring to the fact that Phil Steele rated them, its the number scheme. We have come to accept 3 stars as a rating, because we know that Rivals tops of their biased scale at 5 stars. However, rating Tim Patton #453 doesn't mean a whole lot until you (someone) tells me what that is out of? Is Patton the 453 defensive lineman (ends and tackles) or the 453rd interior lineman? I suspect there's a big difference. I think all we are asking for is some relativity so that his rankings make sense.
  12. I have Dish Network, and should be able to pull in the game. I was just curious to see if there would be a LA wathcing party, as games are always more fun to watch in large groups.
  13. I was wondering if anyone has received any info on watching parties, or any other activity, put on by the Los Angeles chapter of the North Texas Exes. I searched their site, and didn't see anything.
  14. Is it tough to root for the team when you spend the off-season bagging on the quality of the recruits that are brought in here? I just struggle with blanket comments on a process that most of us don't have insight into. Every year we seem to do a little better in the recruiting wars, and this last off-season we were very close to landing some very big recruits. And the standard by which we are measuring recruits is a system that is known to favor bigger schools, and to de-rate kids that choose non-BCS schools. Go and read the last several Texas Footballs. They have consistently ranked our graduating classes very, very high in the state; while the keep ranking our incoming classes very low. That tells me that we recruit kids who are able to make the jump to college football, not necessarily the flashiest kids.
  15. Which means absolutley nothing. The reference to UNT wasn't in regards to one of his teammates, not Allen himself. The other lineman was very regarded himself though. The style of recruiting that DD uses doesn't mean that he doesn't do anything until the final 2 weeks; it means that the public (and fans) just aren't aware of it until then. Thus fans feel slighted because they can't pick apart commitments until after Feb 2nd.
  16. No, we have seen several articles posted on this board about UNT recruiting, and they occurred some time ago. One was a lineman, in Mansfield or DeSoto (can't remember exactly). For whatever reasons, we don't hear about UNT's recruiting until later in the year.
  17. um yeah, there were articles and articles written about how UNT had such a strong comitment to students with disabilities; and how much that played into Jamario comitting. I suspect that it played into Woodwards decision too. I think kids with learning disabilities are labeled as academic risks (right or wrong); as I heard the same thing about Jamario.
  18. You forgot all the dollars invested in Engineering park that aren't noticed everyday.
  19. Can someone tell me what the minimum GPA is to play D-1 football? I would like some perspective on what it means to be academically ineligible before I start ranting.
  20. Yeah, and then they beat TAMU; which bought them alot of credibility. Slay a giant, that'll show that you mean business.
  21. My first thoughts: She comes from several systems with big time atheltic programs. She also has a financial background (that can only be good?). She doesn't read as someone who will take any of LJ's BS:
  22. Sell. We lost too many games last year by not a lot of points. Both units will be at least marginally better; which should help us win some conference games. Buy/Sell: 2006 will see a decrease in the number of 15 yard penalties (unsportsmanlike conduct, etc).
  23. The website shows 4 games played with 3 tackles.
  24. Does anyone know if Isaac Thomas applied for a medical red shirt to take care of last year?
  25. I don't think that's right. Its my understanding that the defenders need to say a players eyes. Thats why so many previous UNT quarterbacks closed their eyes while throwing; to fool the defenses.
