  1. Yeah, that is exactly what he is doing...once again passing the buck.
  2. I had always heard that Matt Simon was shown the door after he publicly questioned why the Music department had seemingly unlimited funding, and the athletic department was a shoestring budget.
  3. I look at it from a different perspective: RV may use his connections to convince a SEC coordinator to come to UNT. Sounds like a good deal to me. (and remember that ties to local recruiting are most important in the assistant coaching ranks, as they are the people actually doing the recruiting.)
  4. And we'd probably get a running backs coach too.
  5. Texas ties are most important with the assistant coaches; the folks actually doing the recruiting. Defense wins championships, period. And that doesn't mean he wouldn't have an offensive gameplan. Hiring an "offensive guy" doesn't mean anything. What if I told you we could hire a offensive coordinator who would call a game that included thowing the ball 40+ times? And bring in a sucessful Qb as an offensive coordinator? Well, you get Dickey and RF. I'll take someone schooled under Spurrier anyday.
  6. I don't think the Texas ties are all that important with the head coach; I think they will be much more important with the assistant coaches. I wonder if any ex UNT players will start applying for assistant gigs; with a new regime (ie, will Eric Peagram get a fair shot at the RB job?)
  7. And didn't Goodall say in his last online chat the DD brought us 4 bowls, and there was no way they would fire him as he would be given the chance to turn things around? And one week later he says the writing's on the wall?
  8. I noticed that the podcast was entitled "A New Hope." Does that mean you are expecting the new coach to be the chosen one who fulfills the Jedi prophecy by bringing balance to the force?
  9. His articles defeat me. A room of monkeys typing could come up with a more original, creative column than Goodall.
  10. I took it that firing coaches before of the season bothers him. Its just that UNT just did it. His soapbox was more on firing a coach 3, 4, or 5 games before the end of the season. I guess no one has explained the college recruiting period to him. A sure bet: on any situation, Norm will side with the Coach/Manager. I still have vomit-mouth from him defending Showwalter and Nelson.
  11. He is a really nice guy. But how does he have time to always be out in the community if he is raising funds for a new stadium (isn't that what a Sr Athletic Director should be doing?) During the course of a game, shouldn't he be schmoozing prospective donors, instead of color commentary?
  12. Your original point was that search comitees indicated that leadership was clueless and indicated a lack of leadership. You failed to mention anything about the speed at which a search committee can or cannot execute. I had just graduated, and was not aware of how collegiate athletics worked. Being around something and understanding how it works are too dramatically different things. I'm only 28, and I have figured out at least how not to butcher the English language. This is a State of Texas job opening. I expect the timelimes for hiring to be a result of the regulations for hiring in Texas (such as leaving the job open for 30 days). I don't think RV and the Pres can hurry this thing along any faster than that. (Though I do expect a new coach to be in place before the NO Bowl.)
  13. Yup, I was lucky enough to serve on the one to assist in finding RV. I learned alot about UNT and athletics during that process. They assume a minimum level of education at the Masters level.
  14. I really think that DD could have turned the thing around with respect to conference play. I am happy to see that the bar has been set higher than that.
  15. If you were talking about search committee's in general, then you must have meant to include how they relate to UNT athletics; where Dr Pohl formed a search committee to locate a new athletic director (RV). Try here, it'll help with the spelling and grammar.
  16. I think we will end up going the "Go Young" route. With that being said, I fear ending up with a Kevin Steele starter kit.
  17. Personally I wouldn't have described Dr Pohl as clueless or lacking confidence. I say that, as he formed as search committee to hire RV. So I guess a search committee can locate a "pretty savvy" candidate. I don't think one is appropriate here, just wanted to point the ignorance of your comment.
  18. Tell that to Houston, who hired an entire high school staff; and is reaping huge rewards from the risk. Remember, this is all a risk/reward thing. The safe move will be a coordinator somewhere. Everything else is gonna require some risk; and a 12 pounder.
  19. It would also give us an inside track on the running back: Tre Newton. I think his daddy played some pro ball. I don't think this hire will happen, but we can dream.
  20. Might want to tap the brakes a little. The best recruiter I have ever seen was Vic Trilli. I can't remember, how did that translate? For the record, i think this is a good move; I just don't know how this is gonna go yet (replacing DD).
  21. Here's my list (not my hopes):E Extroverted. You surround yourself with those that are like you. RV is an extrovert, and the new coach will be too. Familiar with Ok/Texas recruiting, more specifically the metroplex. I also predict that the new coach will be a coordinator in CUSA (Houston, Tulsa, etc).
  22. The last podcast told us how this probably wouldn't happen for financial reasons. Based on your track record, yall need to address how the stadium won't happen for financial reasons...and then we can step back and revel in the power of the podcast.
  23. Well, we are about to find out a lot of things. It'll be really interesting to see what kind of applications we get. And I think we'll get some pretty good ones.
  24. The thing to remember from FFR's signature is that it was an August 2005 article. That was right before the 2-9 season. That was a time when we had 2 national rushing champs in our backfield, and articles in USA Today about our backfield. That seems like such a long time ago.
