  1. Alright...here we go. *breathe in, breathe out* First, respect for the dead was my primary concern in my tirade last week. Secondly, it's not the pot smoking that I'm saying Ricky is a moron for. It's the fact that he's let his entire life be overrun by it to the point where he passed up millions and destroyed what could have been an incredible legacy in the NFL because he loves smoking the reefer. I'd say the same thing if quit football in his prime to go blow all of his money on cars and strippers. Exchange the word "weed" in that sentence to anything else...and it works just the same. Third, I never defended Andrew's substance use. In fact, if you read that thread, I made mention that I have little respect for persons who put others in danger when they put themselves behind the wheel while impaired beyond their limits. I however, did defend Andrew's on-the-field actions as commendable and worthy of having a practice field/facility named after him.I defended a deceased young man who's not here to defend himself...and the memories of a family likely still in pieces from their loss... Are we done now? **side note: (I don't have a problem with people smoking the stuff if that's their thing, so long as they don't put others in danger. I don't know why our gov't is too stupid to legalize and tax it like booze and tobacco...which are just as dangerous, if not moreso. And, no, I don't smoke the pot. The FAA and my employer look down on that sort of thing. And besides, smoked it once, worst experience of my life. But that's a whole 'nother beatdown of a discussion.)
  2. Why don't they realize that there would be more interest and more money in a playoff? See: March Madness
  3. I know your wife, Scrotty...you'll be rethinking that statement later. (she might hunt me down and kill me for that) Just kidding...I didn't realize the wedding had already happened. Congrats to you and Zippy...you picked a good one, she couldn't have picked worse ...all the best to you both.
  4. Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature...
  5. I got all excited thinking the AD put up a billboard advertising season tix. Guess not...
  6. I'm officially calling for a boycott of all the business that replace what is being given the boot. Make these guys suffer.
  7. Ricky must have blown all his money on weed. Needs to recharge the bank accts. What a dumbass.
  8. So many car dealership tie-ins to be had...
  9. I'm a little concerned, too...however, I'll withold judgement.
  10. I see LoRo has got to you, too. Damn commie...
  11. Ahh, the only benefit of living in the Mountain Time Zone. What a game...I was jumping up and down freaking out.
  12. What a game! Boise State...the REAL National Champs!
  13. I LOVE the faces on these OU fans. They don't know how to handle it.
  14. I'm pulling for a HUGE blowout...Go Smurf-Turfers!
  15. You may be pushing it there.
  16. Then what the hell do you suggest? The toilets? That seems to be the moronic consensus here...that Andrew is worthy of being honored, but not with having a practice field named after him...just something no one will know about or see. Then why bother memorializing him at all? Then tell me what you suggest?
  17. No one is excusing the actions that led to his death. No one is "idolizing" anyone here. I have no respect for an individual who choose to put themselves in that situation. Too many lives have been shattered under those circumstances. That said...we're not talking about Andrew Smith 'the person' here. We're talking about Andrew Smith the 'North Texas QB'. It's not a reward for the actions that night leading up to his death. It's about honoring his actions on the football field. By all accounts, he was a team leader and, though he failed his teammates and his team the night he passed, he did not fail them on the football field. He led this team through an incredibly successful season and, for those reasons alone, the practice field should be named after him. It will serve as not only a reminder of how this team can be successful, biut the consequences of poor decision making. My primary beef with your post, EE, is the comment about how those of us who want this should put "a rolled up doobie and a can of beer" by his name. It is an insult to those of us who support this move as well as the Smith family. None of us here condone drug use or drinking and driving...if anyone here does, they should be dragged out into the street and shot. That comment served no other purpose than to rub it in the collective faces that Andrew's legacy was tarnished somewhat. All in all, what happened to Andrew was sad and it is obvious he made some poor decisions. However, as it was stated before, let's not remember him for how he died. If we remember nothing more than that small moment at the end of Andrew's life, then there's something wrong with us.
  18. Two words...Designated Driver. Those new to the Mean Green Punch tend to get knocked on their ass. It takes a few tries to figure out your limits.

  20. This is unnecessary. I'm sure you've never done ANYTHING that may be considered illicit in your life. Mistakes are made in life. We learn from mistakes like the ones Andrew made. But to kick him while he's down, as well as insult those of us who support this decision, with a statement like that is just unnesscessary....grrr. And it really makes me wonder, if you're so high and mighty, why you insist on making hurtful statements like this. Love your fellow man despite his flaws...and remember that there's a family that was hurt by this as well. You just went and got me all lit up about this one....let's go... *re-edited for flow*
  21. Thank you. Perfectly said. **edited down to remove inflammatory, offensive comments regarding conservative, Christian, closed-minded, "holier-than-thou" types
  22. Happy 2007! Or as we've been calling it out here, "The Year of the 7th Wife". I resolve to try again on the whole quitting smoking thing, lose a little weight, and make it home from Utar for at least 1 home game and the GMG.com bowl. This was my 2,222nd post. Yeah!
  23. Did not know that...that's awesome, Rick.
  24. Andrew didn't do anything that several of us haven't done in our lives at that age. Or possibly more recently. Doesn't excuse it at all, but still... Either way...bringing it up doesn't solve a damn thing. Let's just leave it alone.
  25. They're obviously running this story as a promo for their TV version of Friday Night Lights. I really was afraid this show was going to suck (the book is my favorite of all time and the movie wasn't all horrible), but I gave it a chance and it's not that bad. The same guy that produced the movie (and is cousin to H.G. Bissinger) is doing the show. I'm kinda addicted to it now that I've seen all of the episodes online. It's not spectacular by any means, but a great guilty pleasure. They apparently do the filming down in Pflugerville and the football footage is supposedly the Pflugerville team. Mack Brown did a cameo in the first episode...surprised our very own Todd Dodge hasn't been invited to do a cameo...maybe he has?
