No, we're happy to be rid of what was a cancer in the locker room.

Sturns was a major contributor? Who knew... The guy was a nut...a nut who, at least from all the stories I've heard, was very much disliked by his teammates. Why would you want this guy messing up the chemistry between the rest of your team?

Ummm...it's a number. Who cares? Seriously, why are we "worried" about his freakin' jersey number. Let's be happy JQ is getting his shot. If he makes the roster, I don't care if they give him 673 and 1/2 for a jersey number. Some of the things you people "worry" about scares the hell out of me. Kinda like when someone over at an airline industry forum I post in expresses "sadness" (complete with a teary-eyed smiley) when a 767 is retired to the desert and parted out. "SADNESS"? Over a machine? "WORRY"? Over a jersey number? Do you have some kind of emotional problem that may need the attention of a physician? Seriously...if you want to "worry" about something, how about getting NT pointed in the right direction on a new stadium or getting people to buy season tickets? How about getting the students and other alumni involved in NT Athletics? Let's let JQ and the Bills figure out his jersey number without freaking out about it. News flash, people in internet forums have little/no power to change ANYTHING. Which makes me wonder why I'm wasting my time with this rant... OK...rant over.

I try to stay conscious of what I say when in the jumpseat because of Delta 1141. Anytime the conversation turns borderline inappropriate, I starting thinking of my mother listening to the CVR at an NTSB hearing.

What the puck are you talking about? Darn you censors...you and I both know I didn't type "puck".

I think I speak for many when I say: I would pay more than $25 for Mandy to go away. -
Easy now. Scottie was ripped and run off for writing a very truthful article about the state of NT and things that needed to be done to progress at the time it was written. If you look back today and read that article, he was DEAD ON. Yet the DD Kool-Aid drinkers destroyed him at the time. (Hell, I may very well have been one of them. Don't remember, and quite frankly, don't care to research.) Having me Scottie once or twice at games...he is (or at least was) just as passionate as any of us. While I never liked the amount of bitching at the other board, we all had one common goal...the progression of North Texas into what it has the potential to become.

Dammit...now I'm ready for football season. Also, nice to see the fruits of our efforts on page 8. -
I had a very similar landing at BWI last week. Was the pilot, by chance, ex-Navy? You can always tell by how the plop the damn thing on the runway with little flare. Jumpseated with a crew once where the first officer was ex-Navy. After plopping the plane on the runway, the captain looks at him and says something to the effect of, "I think you missed the cables...wanna go around?"

I truly believe that The Tomato can only continue to exist if it were to open on the Square. There are certain places that just won't work without location...and The Tomato in a shopping center...just won't work. It needs something more...classic. Also, can someone please tell Andy Houge to get the hell outta my hometown of Gainesville? He is likely the worst writer at the Gainesville Daily Register...and that takes some talent.

Ahhh, finally something I know about. Delta Air Lines 191 is something we hear alot about in training. (I used various sources from the interwebs for details.) It was a microburst that brought DL191 down in August of 1985. More precisely, it was the wind shear associated with the microburst that brought the Lockheed L-1011 down. Basically, a microburst is when there is downward acceleration of a downdraft from the base of a cloud due to the evaporative cooling. In a thunderstorm, when dry and cool ambient air is introduced into the storm clouds, the moisture in the cloud evaporates rapidly...causing the air in the clouds to cool. The cooling of the air makes it more dense and causes it to sink. When the air gets to ground level, it curls outward and upward. At ground level and a little above, the wind speeds are the highest...and the downdrafts really push down on anything flying through it. DL 191 was on final approach for runway 17L (east complex of DFW...approaching from the north). When the flight flew through the microburst that day (they didn't see it as it was camoflaged by other clouds), the wind shear caused the indicated airspeed of the aircraft to increase rapidly...then decreased just as rapidly down to near-stall speed. This is the primary effect of wind shear on an aircraft. The pilot-flying nosed the aircraft down to avoid the stall, but they were already too close to the ground. They hit the ground and bounced twice. The second impact was onto 114. The way I understand it, it was the left wing engine (#1) that came down on someone in a Honda...destroying the car and killing the driver. From 114, it bounced and skidded into the 2 huge, million-plus gallon, water tanks on the northeast part of the field. Because of this accident, we (pilots, dispatchers, controllers, etc.) get pretty extensive training on microbursts and wind shear. It's some pretty scary stuff to think about getting caught up in. The downward and outward force/shear is pretty nasty. Sidenote: Interestingly...191 is the most common flight number in airline accidents. Delta 191 in DFW (1985), American 191 in Chicago (1979), the recent Comair 5191 in Lexington, KY (the 5 is just a Delta codeshare designator for ticketing purposes...actual flight number filed and callsign with air traffic control was "Comair 191"). I get nervous anytime I file anything close to resembling 191 and, quite honestly, if I were ever given a flight a 191 based number (191, 3191, 4191, 6191, etc.)...I would either refuse to work the flight until the flight number was changed or change the filed flight number/callsign to something different. That said, I think the airlines stay away from the number 191 the same way most stay away from having a Row 13 of seats. We're a superstitious bunch. King, check your PM.

I don't know that anything should ever be REQUIRED. However, it would be a nice gesture.

Dude...frickin' chill. Current Talons...geez...you all act like everyone is out to get you.

Perhaps he didn't know it was going on...again, NT isn't known for really advertising events the way it should.

The teachers and principals were put in a position to have no other choice. A certain percentage passes...or your job and funding hangs in the balance. It is ridiculous that teachers are no longer allowed to teach. Teachers WANT to teach the life skills that used to be taught. However, in many schools they are reprimanded for not teaching the test. Problem is, every f**king kid is told they are special from day one...so they and their parents think it is OK they are borderline (or oftentimes WELL BELOW the borderline) retarded when there is no genetic reason for them to lack basic knowledge.

Probably not. How about we worry less about how much money this guy has and how much we think he should put towards a stadium...and maybe concentrate our efforts on winning him back as a fan. Like him or not, the noteriety of someone like Steve Austin having ties to NT would likely do more good than asking him to make a one time donation. Same goes for all of our "celebrity" alums...what are we doing to win some of these folks that could shine a little extra light on NT?
