Trick Or Treat Tonight
JayDub replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
This is why my mother quit giving out candy years ago. She said she'd hand it out this year, but she would turn away anyone without a costume or looking over the age of 15. $5 bucks on the table that someone turns this into "Barack Obama is a baby-eating, Socialist Muslim Nazi" in 10 posts or less... -

Funny story...not so much anymore. Take a closer look... Note that my name is no longer listed...Then, click here (if I learned anything, I learned that you don't upset the delicate sensibilities of North Texas' Most Untouchable Fan, FireHelmetJesus). My reign of terror as a moderator of the Non-UNT Sports forum came to an involuntary end yesterday. Of course, neither Cerebus, nor Harry felt the need to give me the common courtesy of an email or a private message notifying me of such. They just let me log in and find that I couldn't unpin my pinned note at the top. Extra classy move, guys. It wasn't completely unexpected...and I'm almost relieved to not have to deal with the nasty PM's I've been getting lately...but a quick courtesy email with a brief explanation would have been nice. Then again, I've come to expect that sort of thing from the completely non-confrontational Harry and LoRo, and frankly, the vast majority of those who post here. Ever since Harry started taking advertising dollars for this site, it has gone downhill. The crappy football and the drugs don't help...but there's a certain level of accepted anarchy we used to have here that is gone. Alot of the fun is gone. The Non-Sports Forum kinda became the only place for anarchy...and it got out of control because of the amount of pent up insanity that carried over from not being able to say what you want to say on the football board, etc. anymore. Well, that and the fact that politics is a no-win situation*. Anyway, I came to the realization while tailgating the FIU game that, with exception to a select few (JohnDenver, SilverEagle, etc.), I can't even stand to be around 90% of the people I know from this board anymore...and thus, I'm done dealing with the majority of you in any aspect. I'll still read and occasionally post...I'm not leaving or anything (at least not after my 14+ day ban I'll get for this post is done)...but I've lost alot of respect for alot of people and, honestly, can't stand most of you either. Adios, MoFo's... * - By the way, Rick, et al., I'm thinking I'll be in Chicago watching the beginning of your worst nightmare Tuesday night...this "Liberal Motherf--ker", as one of you referred to me as, can't wait. -

If the Senate needs anything...it's THAT. Then your career politicians like Ted Stevens and Ted Kennedy would disappear. And Biden would say it's 3 words. -

While I agree with forevereagle's comments...I must ask this question: Do you know either candidate personally? I'm going to guess you don't...thus, how can you make such a statement with such surety when all you know of either candidate is what you see and read in the news? Just curious if you know something we don't? It's one thing to suspect certain things about certain people...but to say so with such certainty is what bothers me about the anti-Obama folks. Every living soul has a certain persona they take on in the public eye...anyone who tells you they don't is a liar. I mean, based on this logic and based on what I know about you, I could assume that you wear a fire helmet painted in a NT helmet scheme 24/7. It doesn't mean they are hiding anything bad... Just sayin'. -
Dick jokes are amazingly tolerable in comparison to the other two. I'm on the verge of one of those famous Cerebus Ulcers...and I just moderate one little corner of this joint. No wonder LoRo is so surly.

Congrats, Patrick! Couldn't have happened to a better person...definitely one of the good guys. I guess I'll be ordering my Patrick Cobbs jersey from NFL.com now.

First and foremost, let's make one thing clear...political discussion is on the very edge of being axed altogether. Each and every person has a right to an opinion, therefore the discussions are allowed on this forum. However, no matter which side of the aisle you're on, the fact that you disagree with someone's views does not, repeat, DOES NOT give you license to lodge personal attacks at them...either on the forum or via Private Message. Politics will continue to be allowed...on a leash. Consider this a final warning: personal attacks will not be tolerated. Light argument, disagreement on basic principle, etc. is fine. Personal attack, blatant bigotry, anything with a hateful tone...and you're done. Also, bickering and arguing with the moderator opens yourself up for 7 days off. After the nastiness, hatred, and rage that I've been subjected to via PM by several posters here in the last 24 hours...I'm done playing nice (the next person to fire off any variation of "f--- off and die, liberal motherf---er" gets an indefinite bye-bye). Make no mistake, a ZERO TOLERANCE policy is now in effect. A seven (7) day ban will be the immediate response to anything perceived as a personal attack. All judgements are final. I don't care who you are, I don't care how long you've been posting here...7 days. To quote the All-Knowing and Glorious Cerebus:

Agreed. I don't care who you support...this is out of hand. Just more proof in this country that the movie Idiocracy might not have been too off the mark (of course, the multiple wishes of death I've received via PM just for moderating this forum kinda give me little hope, as well). Sad and stupid indeed. -
This thread has been cleaned up significantly and one person has been given a 3 day "Board Vacation" as a result of some of the personal attacks that have been thrown around. This forum was created to be the sort of "catch-all" for anything not sports and not UNT related. It was inevitable that it would become a politics forum during this election year. It is an obviously divisive topic (one that has, on more than one occasion this election year, resulted in me receiving nasty PM's...including one just this evening...from people I otherwise respect including, amongst other things, wishing death on me for being a "liberal moderator"). I lobbied the admins to allow us to have political discussions in this forum...as long as we could keep the personal stuff in check. Now, I'm not so sure that was a great idea. That said, everyone is entitled to their opinion here...no matter how wrong you may thing that person's opinion is. I don't agree with the opinions of many that post here...but I respect that individual's freedom to voice those thoughts and feelings...and will continue to allow it. However, I'm getting awfully close to imploding this whole thing. So, let's take a moment to review the rules of GoMeanGreen.com Let's keep it civil...I'm growing tired of handing out 2, 3, and 5 day vacations. Hell, I banned my best friend today. How's that for those who call me "unfair"? Happy Posting.

Rick, I'm not even sure what you're getting at with that statement, but I will assume that it was meant in a derogatory manner. Let the record show that I am talking about BOTH sides of the arguments, the left and the right, when I say the dead horse is being beaten. I gave notice that the thread would be closed soon since I was accused, earlier this morning, of shutting down threads that don't when I don't like the political leanings of the topic (that person also decided to taunt me after explaining my position and is now enjoying a two-day "Board Vacation"). I'm all for discussion...even when I disagree with the arguments. Therefore, I am letting you know that, because the discussion of the original topic has ceased, this topic will close soon. If you have anything else to day regarding this topic, let it be said now. --------------------- EDIT: 1656z In compromise, I have merged the "Ah, God Bless Joe Biden", "Dolphins Up For Sale Due To Potential Increase In Cap Gains Tax", and "Senator Obama's Four Tax Increases For People Earning Under $250K" threads into one enormous politics thread. Please continue normal operations.

Ummm...did you not notice where I jabbed at both sides? Equal opportunity, holmes. For the record, I have never once closed a thread in that Evil Little Corner of GMG.com because it didn't jibe with my personal leanings. I shut down threads when the horse has been beaten beyond recognition by both sides. There was a brief stretch of time where I got sick of the very personal attacks the folks in those threads were throwing around toward each other, so I closed up shop on politics for a week...well within my very miniscule amount of moderator powers. Also, I closed another thread last week because the topic was, in essence, already being discussed and, frankly I didn't want to keep tabs on two threads where the same attacks were being thrown around. Anything else? How dare you invoke the name of the GoMeanGreen.com Bowl in a negative way. HOW DARE YOU, SIR! And, if you must know...the last GMG.com Bowl I made it to had a playbook that went a little something like this: DRAW DRAW PASS TO RINGER PASS FOR 2-PT CONV.

EVERYBODY PANIC!!!!!!!!!!! First off, eppy, you might want to work on your reading comprehension. The attitude of most people on this board is something along the lines to "KILL VITO!". Very few are defending the guy. Secondly, this explanation of your original post doesn't even touch on your original point of "Oh, God! Why are people siding with the sportswriter!".
-
I have respect for both Coach Dodge for the decision he made and Brett Vito for just doing his job. It's not about being "butt buddies" with anyone (I don't know either one personally, though I have had a single brief conversation with Vito). It's not about "turning on our coach". It is about appreciating the fact that someone did his duty as a journalist and reported what needed to be reported in the face of losing even more access to NT Athletics. I know this may be a little lost on the Fox News/MSNBC crowd...but, I support freedom of the press and freedom of speech over any football coach.

I have to agree, for once, that the bias and "opinion passing for news" has been pretty apalling. MSNBC is so obviously and disturbingly pro-Obama...hell, NBC as a whole is...and Fox is, if not pro-McCain, at least hardcore anti-Obama...and, even as the Obama supporter that I am, that bothers the hell outta me. At some point it became less about reporting news and more about saying the most shocking or ego-stroking thing possible to score higher ratings. Listen, I watch MSNBC. However, I watch mostly for entertainment because Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow appeal to my somewhat liberal sensabilities...and, well, because Contessa Brewer is wicked hot & I have a strange, unexplainable attraction to Mika Brzezinski. However, MSNBC is just about as much of a joke as Fox News when it comes to real, actual news...they make CNN look legit. Thus why I quit getting my news from the cable news networks. The BBC, The Guardian, and, to a slightly lesser extent, Al-Jazeera English provide pretty good, mostly-unbiased coverage of the major US news stories. They realize that it is not their place to help decide an election, especially one that is not even in their country, and leave it alone.
