Worse than terrible when any Law Enforcement Officer has to chase a suspect. The tables can turn so fast that there is no time to react. It's easy to forget the sacrifices police officers make everyday in the name of public safety. I truly hope a man who takes a life out of stupidity can be made an example of. NO crime is worth the taking of a human life, but some people are born cowards. Those people should pay the ultimate penalty. Emmitt, there is no way to measure the tragic loss of a friend...I know. Do what you were trained to do, and remember there are those of us who still value the risk you take everytime you step outside of that car...

Sorry that he has to miss rest of the year. I'm sure the rehab will go well and he will be back for the spring!!! Good Luck to BB!!! GMG!!!

Firing DD does not help what is wrong with this team. I've responded to this thread so may times now that my head hurts. Give DD next season and judge where we are then. This is a rebuilding year, and most of us knew that after game 2. I asked that we just win the homecoming game this season...and let DD handle where this team goes from there. I expected pretty much what we are seeing. Yes, it still hurts... but we are where we thought we would be. I'm willing to have enough faith to give DD his time to make the corrections. Fire him if you want, but I think he has earned some loyalty... and he will get it from me. GMG!!!

U.S. Army Medevac Helicopter Pilot 1989-1995. Served in "Desert Storm" and "Provide Comfort" and flew my ass off out there. Wildest flying I ever did. I salute all my military brothers and thank them for what they have given, and what they are still doing both overseas and at home. Sometimes I miss the military, but most times I am just happy to have served my country... GMG!!!

Jeesh guys, La-LA is not exactly LSU, but they owned us running the football. At times it was like watching a bowling ball go though the pins... We really do have some talented players, but they are just not jelling yet. (I think next year we are a much better D) I hate doing it, but reality sets in... FAU - 34 NT - 14 Patrick Cobbs - 120 Yards rushing and a TD. Johnny Quinn - 70 yards receiving and a TD ...And, we really need to see some talented-newbies take the field late in games. These players havent seen much action. Now is definently the time to see what they have. I'm looking at the rest of this season like early spring ball, and it does bring some of my enthusiasm back. I support these guys no matter who takes the field, but let's get the biggest bang for the buck. I would like to see Phillips and Kellen Haynes get reps at QB, Evan Robertson at RB, and let's find out what we have with Roy Covington and Casey Fitzgerald at WR. On D, I would now just hold Isaac Thomas out for this season, so let's rotate some backup players who may need game experience for next year. I would start rotating Holman and Graves with Colt Mahan outside. I think Toby Nwigwe RS'd, but will be fun to watch in the spring. The DL rotation is already pulling in just about everyone. Not sure what to do with DB's, but I would like to see more of the backups...Cliff Higgs and Tyrone Carter for example. No, I'm not giving up...I'm cheering up. We could have a good team to look forward to next season. I'm ready to see part of the future now. Just my 2-cents worth... GMG!!!

Hmmm..I like this. RF shakes Silver's hand on the way up to the pressbox? Might be the opportune time to whisper "IF you really want to make it up to me, throw the ball on first down" in his ear. Of course, then RF blows another gasket and the whole thing explodes again... Never mind the play-calling hints. Shake the guy's hand Silver...but be ready to move right and counter with the left-uppercut!!!! (looked like he leads with his right) GMG!!!

Emmitt the "AD". I like it! And yes, DD would keep his job for another year. I am okay with that too. (I know, here come the emails). I think we do a weekly "Ask the AD" post for Emm. The answers will never be boring, I can tell you that... GMG!!!

I am a huge Darrell Dickey guy...you all know that, but this CANNOT go away. If Ramon Flannigan gets away with this one, I will have huge issues with Darrell Dickey. I give him the credit for being a class act, and he really is that. However, this is one of his coaches and he has to be dealt with. Flannigan didnt just say something as he walked by... he charged into the stands pushing people aside and threatend a fan! We were right there and saw the whole thing. I had a fan with me who had NEVER been to a college football game, and his comments about what happened are speading through my co-workers. These impressions are being repeated by people at work who know nothing about North Texas and the strives we have made. I work with some NT-Exes that I have been trying to get to support our program, and they havent been back to NT since they graduated. Now the impression is we fight with our coaches in stands at football games and have no student parking. THAT crap sets my efforts back a year with these guys.. I will not defend the Alums one more time today! Silver did nothing to instigate that reaction from Ramon Flannigan other than hit the nail on the head. Something needs to be done about this, and it needs to be made public. People outside the University need to believe we are accountable for our actions...especially our coaches. GMG!!!

Actually, Texas Tech does have a problem with it. They banned the tortilla thing last year. We were at the Tech-Kansas game in Lubbock this year, and there were no tortillas thrown. I asked an Alumnist about it and she said they eject anyone now who throws tortillas. Kind of a sad day when you cant see that..pretty funny tradition I thought. My point simply is this... If the security guys need to throw someone out to make an example, they are already screwing up. There are a few fans at the NT games that have given everything but blood over the past several years, and they should be un-touchable. They are as much a part of the gameday experience as tailgating. I brought a first-time fan to the game (his first college footbal game to attend ever, not just at NT), and this was not the image to leave him with? We yelled at the security guys hassling Rick, and we yelled when Ramon charged after Silver. Our attention was completely off the game for who knows how long, and La-La even scored a TD while we were distracted by the Rick-rousters. (we didnt see it? I looked back at the field and scoreboard showed they had 21?) I know RV is a great guy, and we trust him completely. He has to do something about this mess with security. I dont know what the attendance was last night, but it was not good enough to start scaring people away for something so trivial? As for the Flannigan thing, I would let Dickey handle that. If the peace is going to be restored, RF needs to be on his way BACK to SMU, but thats not our call. I know many of you are upset with Coach Dickey, but Flanny is still his OC and DD needs to take care of him. Coach Dickey is a class act and will do what is needed with Ramon Flannigan. I'm hoping never to see RF's "fan-charging", angry ass again...but that's just me. GMG!!!

Halftime incident w/the coaching staff
medpilot21 replied to vpackrats's topic in Mean Green Football
Not just screaming at fans...Flanny charged Silver twice. The other coaches pulled him out of the stands, but Flanny tried to go back at him. That was the worst meltdown I have ever seen by a coach. I dont care what the circumstances, you never jump into the stands to threaten a fan.....EVER!! Flannigan needs to quit right now before this gets out. The media would have a field day with such and incident. The berating he will take from the fans from this point on will be horrendous. I had a first-timer there watching the game and he had to see that? Fire the man, and fire him right now!!!!! GMG!!! -
That pic is just wrong, Man!!!....but DAMN funny. It will be a good game. NT turns it around today, but this will be a close one. GMG!!!

NT - 20 ULL - 17 And we win with...YES, a 50 yard field goal by the Prince of the Pin-stipe; the "Master of Cool wearing scarfs of Fine Wool"......Nick Bazaldua!!!! GMG!!!

That is just wrong!!!!! Jeesh....hehehe GMG!!!

All true Rick. My understanding was that Lineberry was a senior and done after this year? Brown has had an off year and his rotation time has been pulled way back after getting removed from the starting lineup. I'm still not sure we start Foster at tackle again? He may show huge improvement with the remaining games, but he is a undersized and is getting pushed around pretty good now. Our conference opponents will be a better gage of how he is handling the starting role. As for the D., Steve Warren is a good player and will be in the rotation, but Gary Oubre is also in contention and I didnt mention him either. I havent seen enough of them yet to know where they fit? Warren and Oubre may be starters full time by next season. I'll let the MGR and Harry keep us up on that one in spring ball. I am also wonderring if Higgs moves to LB? Lots of good questions...I was just going by what I think as of today. STill not suer what we do at TE. Great to be positive about next year's team though... We just have to make it through this season. Still a few games to be played this year, and I'm looking forward to those. GMG!!!

I think you have hit on something here. Let's look at what next season could offer. QB: Meager takes the nest step after a year of experience and off-season to get healthy. RB: J-Mo is the man, No more of this "carry once here and once there" stuff. We have all seen what he does when he is THE man in the backfield. J-Mo will be back. WR: No question..speed and skill. (Quinn, Covington, Muzzy, and Jackson) TE: I really have no clue what DD does here? I think we finally see Brock Stickler make this move. The kid is strong and fast and could be a huge weapon. OL: Here comes Adjani Banks (6-3/325), Chris Eidd (6-3/320), Jarrod Pruitt(6-4/310), Adam Venegas(6-3/305),and Chad Rose(6-3/285) has a year of experience under him at center. We get bigger and more athletic here guys. DL: Isaac Thomas and TJ "Big Cat" Raymond at full strength and eligible. (I know, dont say it..fingers crossed is all I can offer right now) Willie Ransom appears to be breaking out at DE. Hopefully Gilmore will be as good when he gets some time. LB: Not only are we fast, but have more experience. (Monroe, Graves, Mendoza, Holman, and my surprise player...Colt Mahan, who I would still move to SS) DB: Deavin Cox and Dominique Green will be very fast corners. (not sure yet on how physical) Cotton and Weathers are good players, but I see Agbottah playing the free safety spot. We'll see... There are lots of potential difference makes I havent listed as we have a Mean Green Report for that. Team looks pretty good for next year.. I feel good about our chances. GMG!!!

Not sure I follow your logic here. You dont think Dickey has turned the program around? We went to our first Bowl game in fifty years, and that could have been a fluke. We go to three more bowl games in successive seasons, and win one?...that is no fluke. You say it is the conference we are in that defines our success?...possible, but we didnt go to a bowl game in the Big West...which was no better than you say the Sunbelt is now? The coaches before Dickey only accomplished success in the Southland conference. I cant speak for everyone, but I certainly think the Division-IA jump was a good one. It takes time to build a team and a program, and Darrell Dickey has done that. I didnt hear anyone complaining about how he is incapable of taking this team to the next level when we hung 50 plus points on Baylor, or when we beat Texas Tech twice? This sounds a lot like the "what has he done for us lately" moan. I know it is difficult to handle losing the way we are, but it happens to every program in college football. If Bob Stoops and Joe Paterno can have a bad seasons with THEIR recruits at THAT talent level, then I have to believe it is possible for Darrell Dickey to have one. If your biggest complaint is the OOC record?, then you have a valid point. But that is not how I judge the success of my UNT football team? My simple view is "Do we win games?...no matter who we play?" Everyone has their opinion, of course... but if you honestly believe any coach could have come in here years ago and we are better off than we are now?, you may be a little off center with your thinking. Coaches before DD tried it and failed, and DD has the skins on the wall. Rick Villareal is very good at what he does, and he believes Darrell Dickey is the Coach to lead this program. I trust RV...period. In my book, the proof lies with what people outside the program think as well as the fans. Darrell Dickey is the four-time reigning CONFERENCE Coach of the Year. Whether or not you think he is the right coach for North Texas is another argument, but the other coaches in this conference think he is the best among them. That says something clear to me. I dont compare apples to oranges. OOC losses bite....no argument there. But DD coached teams have won this conference, and have given this team national exposure. North Texas was nowhere close to signing a talent like Michael Ruff without Darrell Dickey. Regardless of what happened to the kid afterwards, I talked to him at a Fouts field practice, and he said he had other offers from bigger colleges. Dont fool yourself into thinking DD inst doing everything in his power to recruit talent and win. This is just one of those unfortunate years we all live thorugh... However, we get to watch some young players grow into themselves. The way we watched Scott Hall and Cody Spencer become the players they were. Instead of doubting a coach who has shown you what a championship feels like,(yes, even if you believe the sunbelt is that bad) be patient enough to be a realist with the rest of us. Partly becuase you have no choice...DD is here to stay, but also becuase you have faith in the assistant coaches. They recruit also, and we have to trust that the talent they have brought in for us will pay off. We said the same thing with the players from 2001, and they certainly came together. Darrell Dickey does know what he is doing. There are too many signs, and too much talent not to be successful. Give him the time to teach these guys how to be champions, and they will be... GMG!!!

HAHAHAHAHA....now THAT's funny!!!! (I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry?) GMG!!!

I hate these polls...mostly because the really bad predictions are probably right on the money. LSUsed - 65 Nick Bazaldua - 3 Come through for me, Nick. I'll hold a beer for your Mom. (she's such a sweetheart, I'd give it to her anyway) GMG!!!

Good post Steve. Nice to see that Emmit and I arent the only ones still on the DD band wagon. (yes of course there are others of us, but most of the Dickey posts lately have been poison tipped darts) The man has earned a down year and that is what he gets with this team. Let's see what we have in 06 when the younger players have some experience. I know the losing bites, but the fact is it happens. I hate it as much as everyone else, but there are just some things we have to live through. (see 1997 and 1998 seasons, for those of us unfortunate enough to have been in the stands for those games) I am looking at the positives as much as I can. J-Mo will be the #1 starter and there will be less of the "platoon" RB situation next season. Patrick Cobbs is running well, and we all love the guy...but we really need J-Mo to have more snaps. Dickey can fix his fumble issues, and will have Danny Meager ready for a sophmore season in the passing game. JQ will be back for the next season, and so will most of this defense. I say lets play out the season and do the best we can, but be realistic about what this year has to offer. Four straight conference championships and bowl games allows for a down year. I had a great time in New Orleans, and one bowl season at home doesnt hurt that much. My only request of this coaching staff is to find a way to win the homecoming game. I know they play to win them all, but we have some serious issues to work through. I think DD can get most corrected enough to face Monroe on the 19th. I know, I'll catch it again for this post too. I said it once and I'll say it again... Darrell Dickey is a four-time conference coach of the year. If we needed a head coach, THAT is the guy we would be going after? well, we already have him. One down year does not erase that? Patience people, patience... Okay....Fire away, but aim low. NOT IN THE FACE please, not in the face. GMG!!!

Made the last trip to BAT-on RUDE. No thanks on a return trip the the "visitor-abuse" capital of the south. I still cant believe someone actually threw a shoe? They didnt come over to claim it, so at least one drunk went home barefoot or hopping? Security guards thought that was funny... we didnt. But it was original. Be careful over there if you go. Oh, and Rudy... take two Valium before you get out of your car Bro. GMG!!!

I was suprised also to find the weekly press conference restricted? I guess the almighty dollar means more than staying in touch with the fans? Not sure if we can get the same kind of info from the coaches show videos as we got from the weekly presser. Oh well, such is progress. If a time ever comes that we have to start paying 50 cents to read the football section of the school paper...that's when things are getting out of hand. GMG!!!

Jeesh? Now I dont feel so bad about the Tulsa game. Well, not AS bad... GMG!!!
-
Haha... now that's funny. We're pulling out early am on Sat. for the thriving hotbed of Ruston. I'm on record as staying on the DD bandwagon, so I guess we talk about how much we'll miss New Orleans. (Jaegermeister...jeesh Emm?) Good times, man....good times. GMG!!!
-
Both have been in the backfield together...no workie workie. Most of us are unsure about why J-mo is collecting so much dust on the sideline, but Cobbs is running well. Dickey has always been loyal to the seniors, and there must be something else we dont know. A win is a win...but that performance was terrible. Here's hoping Meager and company get it together at La-Tech. (hope has to start somewhere?) GMG!!!

Hehe.... I love the optism!!! GMG!!!
