Which player makes or breaks the 2006 season?
medpilot21 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Jamario being healthy makes or breaks our year I think. We are a run team, plain and simple.. Isaac Thomas will tell the defensive story, and in the spring he showed why we were so serious about that guy. We have a guy like that last year and we dont lose a couple of games.. wouldnt make much difference on last years team. This year will be a different story. Jamario is back, and we will have a QB who either throws downfield bullets, or runs like one. I feel good about our upcoming team. I still think J-Mo makes us or breaks us, but at least Quinn, B-Jacks and company have a shot at making plays. 8-4, and a conference title... I could live with that for this year. Just PLEASE beat SMU at home. GMG!!! -
Not really a kiss-up intended here, but ASU looked pretty good last year. Some of us went to the Bowl Game in Lafayette and that ASU team put up a real fight. My only question about your team coming back is in the secondary. Front line was already good, and you've got a really quick LB in Josh Williams. I also read he got kicked off of the team, but is trying to walk back on? Defensive from seven is decent, however, your corners had issues all year... and it showed in the bowl game that your opponents had watched ASU game film. I think both of our teams are better this year.. we sure cant do much worse? I also saw some good things from the Ragin Cajuns last year, so we could have a three-way race for the top spot. Good luck to the ASU guys, and let's hope your corners and our QB play both improve this year. (the ASU fans at the Bowl game were awsome, and fun to be out there with) GMG!!!

GMG.com volunteer effort to build a Sand Pit
medpilot21 replied to Davidson's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm in to help, money or other...but this is a new one? Hopefully someone knows how to do this? The last sandpit I played in had thousands of surrenderring Iraqis... GMG!!! -
Offense: QB: Matt Phillips (sorry Emmitt) RB: Jamario Thomas FB: Korona Henderson WR: Johhny Quinn FL: Brandon Jackson Slot: Joel Nwigwe First play: play action pass to the out route (Jackson or Quinn) Korona Henderson will stay back to block and buys an extra second. Would have to be a quick read..If those routes closed, Nwigwe is streaking downfield. (no Michael Huff back there now) We could catch them napping early. Defense: BLITZ...BLITZ....BLITZ. New QB and two new OL starters.. Got to get pressure. Besides, in the 3-4 we have more speed on the field. Hello Jevan Sneed..meet Phillip Graves!!! GMG!!!

Sounds like a good time. Count me in... GMG!!!

Guys, Patrick Cobbs and Nick Bazaldua participated in the pro day at UTA and did much better. PC ran a mid 4.5 in the 40, which is better than he did at Fouts. Nick Bazaldua said he was just asked to do kickoffs. He hit a few good ones too. That is all... GMG!!!

Man, I love draft talk.. (one of my favorite times of the year. I watch the whole thing and have my own draft board) Dont be so sure about Bush?, With exception to David Carr, Houston's track record for draft success hasnt been stellar so far? I am no NY fan, but the Jets have drafted well and have made strides. The Jets look to fill holes and shore-up weaknesses, so they now have Brad Kassell, and that may be the part of their run defense that needed to be corrected. The Jets usually focus on fixing the needed areas...which makes their front office pertty good in my book. The Texans will probably draft Bush, then he AND Andre Johnson can help pick David Carr up after he is sacked for the 10th time in the game. If the Texans were smart, they would trade that first pick and turn it into two other first rounder's... Take an Offensive Tackle (D'Brickashaw Furguson-Virginia) and a Offensive Guard (Max Jean-Giles-Georgia, or Davin Joseph-OU). Most first or second round talent OL's could help protect David Carr and make an immediate impact. The Texans already have a good RB in Wells. But facts are facts; Carr is the most sacked QB in the league since Archie Manning. Carr cant throw if he is lying on his back? I think Gary Kubiak will do good things down there, and will eventually get the right guys in Houston to fix that bizarro situation...but what a mess in H-town right now? The only thing that could make that mess worse down there would be hearing that Ricky Williams is your opening day starter. Short of that, good luck... GMG!!!

Good stuff!!! Thanks again Baby Arm!! GMG!!!

That was a good time. I think this year's game was the most fun so far. I wish a few other White-team players had shown up, they missed a great time!! Good job coaching Zeke and Stebo... And thanks again to Blake Burruss for the halftime pep talk.. Was really great having him out there. See everyone at fall workouts in August. Time to go back to doing what we do best... supporting our Mean Green!!! GMG!!!

Thanks for a Great game guys!!! Win or lose, we had a lot of fun and did some good things for the Athletic Department. Thanks again to Coach Dickey, Coach Evans, and all the players. This game gets better every year, and it's because we care that things go so well... Now, back to my Ice-pack... I still cant believe Pierow leveled me??????.. Good times, fellas... Good times!!!! GMG!!! -
Same schedule applies: 10:30 for shirt handout and warmups, but you can show as early as 10:00. Med

Good to have this out, but may be a bit misleading. It appears Matt Phillips was a wide receiver last year, and played a good deal at WR? Looks like he had decent yards receiving too...hehe. Maybe we should give him a shot at it? GMG!!!
-
That's a little funny, but the bad karma that goes with it???, what a huge risk! GMG!!!

The game is being moved to the Center practice field at the new AC. Coach Evans said we will have a bunch of the football players in attendance for this game. Gates will open at 10:00. I have the shirts already and we will have most things setup by 10:15. Please remember to bring your shirt money if you have not paid yet, and the money for FFR's trailer hitch covers if you orderred one. Ashley (Hope) will have the "paid" list for shirt handouts. Remeber that ALL money collected goes directly to the Andrew Smith Scholarship Fund. Let's have fun and play a good game!! GMG!!!

NT soccer loses to China in 1-0 snoozer
medpilot21 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Athletics
My first soccer game to watch with kids over 6, and it was alright. I didnt get most of what was going on, (penalties make no sense to me...) but we had Emmitt explaining what was going on most of the night. (pretty good Jaeger-bombs at his tailgate didnt hurt either) At one point, Zeke and I were just screaming whatever Emmitt screamed? I think I screamed "Give em the yellow card!"..twice, and I still am not sure what that is? The game was a good time. Talked to Nick Bazaldua for a bit, and he said he and Cobbs did the Pro day at UTA. Cobbs ran again and brought his 40 time down into the 4.5's. Not bad after running a 4.7 at NT. Nick also said the scouts really just wanted to see his kickoff strength, and he really nailed a few KO's. Good luck to both of those guys. As for the Girls game, I'm not sure soccer is my thing, but it was good to see a NT team in action. We have a really good goalie on that squad, and the new field is pretty nice too. That is all... GMG!!! -
2006 SCHEDULE SEPT 2 @TEXAS (loss: 38-10, remember 65-0? not this time..no Vincie-the-Pooh?) SEPT 9 SMU (Win: 35-14... Bobby Chase is good, Jamario Thomas is better) SEPT 16 @Tulsa (Loss: 28-21... A good team is a good team, but close) Sept 23 @Akron (Win: 38-21.. Zips are good on Offense, trouble on D) SEPT 30 MTSU (Win: if MTSU offense couldnt score on our "05" defense?..please) OCT 7 Florida INT'L (Win: J-Mo goes nuts.. 45-21, Isaac Thomas has three sacks) OCT 21 @Ark State (Win: 28-24, statement game..they have something of ours) OCT 28 @Troy (Toss up? Will take a win here, but too close to predict) NOV 4th LA TECH (Loss: 35-20, That defense will key on J-Mo, and blitz) NOV 11 @Louisiana Lafayette (Win: 34-24, better OL makes the difference here) NOV 18 Fla Atlantic (scary game: The Schnell will be ready. Win 24-21) NOV 25 @ LA MONROE (Win: 31-24, Stephen Gyles meets the 3-4 defense) I have us going 8-4 (including the Troy game in this one), but could be 9-3. If SMU beats us, all remaining bets are off... GMG!!!

Just a reminder that the game is this saturday and starts at 11:00, but players should be there in time to stretch and warm up. (see the posted schedule locked at the top of the board). The game trophy is in and looks great! We will also be doing the MVP award from the winning team. The game trophy will be presented by Coach Dickey or Coach Evans, and the MVP trophy will be awarded by me (Medpilot). The location is as listed, at Traditions Field (where we played last year's game). Any changes before kickoff will be posted in time for everyone to adjust, but right now it looks like all is on schedule. Please remember your shirt money and/or Money for FFR's Trailer hitch covers. Ashley will be available to collect the shirt money and mark you as paid. At 10 minutes prior to kickoff, we will stop taking money and get the captains together, so please be there in time to pay and play. As posted in the schedule, shirts will be there early, so players can get them as they arrive. Any questions regarding the game or time schedules should be posted here, and I will get to them as soon as I can. Let's have another great football day in the sun, and remember we are doing this for a great cause!!! No matter the outcome or issues, we are all major players in the many Mean Green traditions!!! GMG!!!

Scrimmage of interest tonight on Ch. 27 KDFI
medpilot21 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
No kidding on the "Texas in your name" thing. We know for a fact that all of our OOC opponents think we are related to the longhorns... Even the fans at the freakin Arkansas game were giving us the "upside-down" horns handsign? I guess we ARE horns-related if everyone else in the country thinks we are? We should watch this scrimmage, and yell for the Bums-in-Burnt-Orange so at least the Arkansas fans dont come across as total morons... Honestly, I still wont be watching. I personally think that Arkansas image thing has already been settled... and without Vince Young, UT has three big-time lossess last year and NO National title. Yay... How exciting will these guys be to watch now? GMG!!! -
Awsome!!!....9 days and a wake up. I got the trophy back and it looks great! Now we just need a picture of the winning team holding it up. Big Will earns his money this year with that misfit crew if he wants another MVP... Countdown clock is ticking! GMG!!!

Hahahaha...better be careful, Bill. The "Flani-Gator" is already lookin for you!!! GMG!!!

UNT looking for running backs coach AGAIN
medpilot21 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Our coaches are going other places to get more money guys, plain and simple/ COach Dickey told me one of them wanted to stay here, but left because he could get $25,000 more a year at another job. There is little we can do about that now unless the budget was adjusted, and that money has to come from somewhere? It's a losing battle in most cases. I am just glad we can find coaches who are willing to do the job more for the love of it, and not so much the money. I dont know that I could do that if it were me, so it's tough to fault them. GMG!!! -
We win this one, and for the reasons we all saw in spring ball.. 1. Jamario is back in the drivers seat. I loved PC too, but rotating RB's and not having the consistency makes a difference. Jamario is ready and will be a force again. 2. DL. For the first time since BK left, we have a legitimate pass-rushing DT in Isaac Thomas and a DE in Ransom. I think Chapman is a good player, but he is more of a containment and tackles guy. Ransome. Burruss, and Gilmore give us outside speed to the QB. Yes, there are still questions on about the DL... but have you guys seen SMU's offensive line? I did twice in person last year and most of those guys are coming back. Not great for Pony fans, but good for Thomas, Burruss, and Ransom. 3. The 3-4 defense. Take away the middle routes and there goes TE Vincent chase. His brother Bobby is a very big WR at 6-4 and has speed, and the 3-4 defense allows the safeties to stay back in coverage. I would be shocked if Weathers doesnt have at least one pick while playing back on Bobby Chase. (Last year's SMU offensive MVP) SMU also has Phillip Burley coming in as a freshman WR-burner. We need our secondary stay back, and to not have to play up in run support. Our strength on defense has got to be LB speed. Graves, Monroe. Nwigwe, Holman, Mahan.... we have more speed reading the ball then most 3-4's. I feel good about our matchup there. Of course for the 3-4 to work we have to get pressure from the front three. Anyone who saw spring ball knows we are better there. 4. OL. I have to admit I am not sure how much better we are relating to skill, but size and althleticism????..we are just bigger and better. I am not sure who we end up with as a starters, but Jamario benefits from the holes that will be open up front this year. It seemed at times last year that the holes were not there often, and PC had to create lanes on his own. If what we saw in the spring is an indicator, we should be okay at OL. The only problem they had was Isaac Thomas, and I suspect other teams are about to get their dose of him too. 5. WR. After watching the SMU secondary last year I noticed a pattern. FIrst, they are aggressive, which is why they had the interceptions they had in the second half of the season. But they also got beat deep a LOT, which is why they lost at leat three of those games. That secondary takes chances...and gives up the big play. Johnny Quinn, Brandon Jackson, and Joel Nwigwe are burners. I see huge oportunities there. Muzzy and Stickler are very good crossing-route kinda guys who can get you first downs. I have to like our chances there too? I watched Baylor torch that SMU secondary with the Dime package in there. The SMU defense is geared for the battle up front. Good front four with good linebacker speed. I think Johnny Quinn has a career game. There are plenty of reasons to feel good about this game, but it will come down to play-calling as much as matchups. I hope RF is up to the task. I would feel better about our chances if we could get out to a 14 point lead and let our 3-4 have some fun blitzing. At least with Romo back their last year, the blitz tore him up. He is gone now and SMU will have a new signal caller. (Chris Phillips) I think we have what it takes to rattle him. I think we hear a lot of "tackle made for a 5 yard loss by Isaac Thomas"... GMG!!!
