Good God? Where did you dig this one up from? I am a Cowboys Fan from WAAAAAYYYYYYY back...so here goes. Easy ones: Herschel Walker-RB, Tony Dorsett-RB, Randy White-DL, Ed "Too Tall" Jones-DE, Jim Jeffcoat-DL, Bill Bates-FS Harder ones: Eugene Lockhart-LB, Howard Richards-OT, Mike Saxon-P, Steve Pellur-QB, Steve DeOssie-LB, and Mark Tuenei-OT You guys will have to chip in with the names of the others. I dont recognize them, but that sure brings back some memories. Dallas won the NFC East in 85. I dont remember how we did in 86, but we didnt win the division. I do remember that we had moved #75 Phil "False-Start" Pozderic from DE to OT, and the holding calls that followed from that guy became a thorn in Tom Landry's back-side. I think he still holds the record of 4 back to penalties on one drive. (Two false starts and two holding calls) You gotta love Danny White looking over at Tom Landry and shrugging?....hehehe GMG!!!

Coach Dickey is a class act and a great guy. Best wishes to him and his family during his recovery. GMG!!!

I dont believe the atendance numbers were accurate. We went outside at halftime for a "beverage" and our tickets were scanned out. When we went back in they were supposed to scan the tickets back in, but the guys there just waived everyone back in? No tickets were scanned, so the actual attendance was certainly off on the Alum side. GMG!!!

Great post Rick. Yep, I remember all of that. Great trips to N.O. I'm ready to go back. Besides, Harrah's needs some more of my money... GMG!!!

NT-24 MTSU-17 22,000 attend. Jamrio - 130 yards and one TD Nwigwe - 70 yard TD catch Quinn - Keeps his streak alive: 100 yards and one TD catch. Notable Clint Marks post-game Q&A: Reporter: "You took a nasty hit in the second quarter and appeared to be injured...How are you doing now? Marks: " I'm told it's a mild concussion...and I'll be fine, thanks. Now who the hell is Germaine Dawson?.." GMG!!!

.... Looks like you picked the wrong week to START sniffing glue? I back Coach Dickey too, you know that... but we need an offensive spark, and SOON! Three things... 1. QB stability: You have to KEEP Woody Wilson in the saddle. The kid is a play-maker. The more time he gets, the better he makes decisions and reads. The QB carousel is "no workie-workie". 2. Play calling: You convince RF that THIRD down comes just before FOURTH down. I know Dickey can over-ride Ramon's play calls in situations, but I think RF has to start thinking outside the box. (especially if there are 8 men in it) Yes, Jamario is a very good option on 3rd and whatever... please throw the freakin ball and back those Linebackers off! Just try it for the hell of it, and if it works... RF can say he was planning it all along! If not, he can blame Darrell Dickey! DD's been taking heat rounds for him since last year anyway...he wont care! 3. Patience: I know, this is the tough one for some of us. Good or bad this team is ours, and so are the coaches. We know we will not start 0-4 or 0-5 as we already have a win, and a good one in my opinion. Back the coaching staff for the season and let the chips fall where they may in January. GMG!!!

Question: "The shift to the 3-4 defense has made a noticeable improvement in the over-all defensive scheme. NT had to bring in someone to make that possible. It would appear a similar shift is needed for the offense. Is there a change coming, and if so...who is available to get this upgrade installed?" Med...

Some games are just like this. Strong winds, tough defenses, no OL, QB changes, away crowd, etc... are tough to deal with. At least they didnt plant 52 on us? I feel really good about how we played tonight. Yep, we gonna be fine.... Uh huh, no problemo.... I'm okay with this one...really? GMG!!!

Hahaha.... I needed that. Thanks. GMG!!!

Hahaha... apparently there is still some athleticism in Murfreesboro!!! (Easy MUTS fans, I'm only kidding) I had Clint Marks as a pre-season All-Conference selection at QB. I am trying not to be too much of a NT homer, but if Woody Wilson continues to do what he has shown in the first two weeks?... I think he takes it. There is no replacement for taking an offense and marching down the field. Woody = Winning... That's just all there is to it. GMG!!!

FW*Telegram excellant article of J.Quinn
medpilot21 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Is this guy kidding? 5-9, 175 is a little receiver... 6 foot and almost 200 lbs is not a little guy? Maybe in comparison to Randy Moss or Plaxico Burress, Quinn is small. But let's not lose our focus. His size is part of what makes him intimidating to some "normal" size defensive backs. As for Kmart, I was on the practice field at Fouts when Kmart had Quinn as a freshman. I remember that time like it was yesterday. One of our coaches was yelling at at a freshman TE (Robert Harmon) for dropping balls and running "weak" routes. Kmart had the WR's and kept saying Quinn was the best "route-running" college receiver he had ever seen? Kmart looked down at my son and said "you work hard and make your grades and I'll be coaching you down the road".. I loved that, and so did Chris. On a "who cares" note; That was also the practice where Freshman RB Michael Ruff burned our best defensive players for THREE amazing TD runs. I have never seen a kid run that fast in my life??? It was almost like watching a video game as he pulled away from everyone on the field. I looked at Harry once and said "Good God that kid's a burner!" We were all very excited about having a "missile" at RB!.....and then he was gone? Life takes some excruciating turns sometimes... GMG!!! -
Sports Network- Game prediction & preview

And thus begins the "Woody Wilson" era of NT football. I think we have found something special in this kid. Of course he will make some mistakes, but we've already seen the upside. NT - 27 Tulsa - 24 Game is won with 10 seconds left on the clock... a 37 yard kick from Nick Bazaldua!!!!! (Okay, I know he's gone... but some habits are hard to break) GMG!!! -
I talked to PG at the tailgate and he said he was hoping to be cleared by conference play... but it will be another 3 weeks at least. Willie Ransom was #93 and played in both halves of the SMU game. GMg!!!

Not only is the defense back, but they did something that UTEP, TCU, and UAB could not. They controlled SMU's 2004 and 2005 Offensive MVP Bobby Chase!!! Not only did they take him out of the game, but they hit him so hard once that he fumbled the ball! Nothing says "I own you" like taking the ball from you... My son and I went over to the SMU locker room to see Bobby and Vinny Chase before their bus pulled out. There was a large number of fans over there, and most of them said "you guys have one hell of a quarterback", but the defense was mentioned once or twice also. Bobby told us he thought he was going to score once and he got caught from behind. That says loads!!! Kudos again to Darrell Dickey and this Mean Green Football Team!!! GMG!!!

I watched... Man, where did Oregon State's defense go? As for the crowd, yeah.. made a big difference. We may get there one day. GMG!!!
-
HAHAHAHA....now THAT's funny. GMG!!!

Funny, but we are all praying for that very thing... we CANNOT lose to SMU. GMG!!!

No offense brother, but there is already a thread running with these complaints... GMG!!!

I am a huge Darrell Dickey supporter, you guys know that. But jeesh?, it's hard to ignore an 80 yard scoring drive against the National Champions? I dont know what coach Dickey is looking for in a QB, but I would think Woody has already seperated himself from the others. UNLESS... he is injured or other issues are there. DD knows things we dont, so I'm trusting that he knows what he is doing. If we get beat by SMU while running this QB carousel crap, I will have a huge problem with the ole ball coach. DD wants this game bad... I can promise you guys that. There has to be something here. Let's see what MP gives us before we panic. I watched the SMU-TTech game. Phillips has a strong arm and the SMU secondary is horrid. DD has to be thinking about that. God I hope that's it...if not, WTF?????????? GMG!!!

Is SMU a make/break game for NT program and Dickey
medpilot21 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
I have to disagree with you about Darrell Dickey. Four straight winning seasons and bowl games, plus the trips to New Orleans work for me. (I know, we were 5-6 the first year, but we still shared the title) We simply didnt have that before DD got here. Now in reference to RF.. I couldnt agree more. The man is made of Kevlar, or some other bullet proof material. I am a firm believer in backing the coaches you have, regardless... and I am trying to do that with Flanny. He wears our colors, so he gets my loyalty. HOWEVER, dont mistake loyalty for blind faith. I thought he should have been canned last year, and was shocked when he survived the incident with Bill in the stands? I honestly hope he is on a very short leash for this year. Here's to Saturday and a new rivaly with SMU. GMG!!! -
Section E, Row 11, seats 3,4,5,6. Seats held since 1999. (sat on the student side in 98). Best price for season tickets in the metroplex. I only had two gripes (Team was on the other side of the field...fixed, and no ice in drinks..fixed) Now I get iced drinks, kettle popcorn, and THREE starting quarterbacks on gameday... talk about getting your money's worth???? GMG!!!...

Another thing to remember about the Tech-SMU game was the bottom line. SMU didnt get out-coached, they got out-played. You can game plan all you want, but missed assignments and dropped balls kill. If the SMU players had made just a few less mistakes, that game may have been much closer at the end. SMU will show up here with a team that makes some mistakes on the field, but they will be well prepared by their coaching staff. If we dont get "out-coached" (You guys know I would take Darrell Dickey over Phil Bennett any day) then we should be fine. I still have issues with the multiple QB thing we are doing, but I trust coach Dickey... so Saturday will tell one way or another. I didnt like Woody being pulled after an 80 yard scoring drive in Austin, but he may have been hurt and that would explain DD's decision. I hope that is the reason. If Woody was healthy, and was pulled so Phillips could go back in just to get reps, then we got out coached... I'm out. GMG!!!

I watched the replay of TTech-SMU. SMU seemed to base everything on their QB Willis, who was impressive with the ball. After watching both of our first games I would say the following: (please remember these are just opinions) Offensive scheme: advantage SMU. Sucks, but true. They have fast, big play receivers that find the gaps. Willis is a similar QB to Woody Wilson here, and will take off with the ball to avoid pressure. This QB will audible and run, and calls lots of shifts based on the defensive allignments. The SMU offense appears dependant on Willis. Against T.Tech he was their leading passer and rusher. NT uses the Pro-set or I formation more and is somewhat predictable. Strength is in the run, so the NT offensive line will tell the tale on saturday. Defensive Scheme: Advantage North Texas. The move to the 3-4 helps counter what SMU does well. SMU will shift their offensive set after Willis reads the defense. NT has the speed at LB to match up very well in cases of audible and shifts. The best receiver SMU has is Bobby Chase (6-4, 4.5 speed/ had 3 catches for 25 yards versus TTech). NT DB's will have to play up on the SMU receivers. For the NT defense to be effective, DB's willhave to jam the SMU receivers and hold their ground. We should see more "bump and run" during this game. Willis has to have no one open after his first read...thenhe is prone to take off. the 3-4 helps NT there. Control Willis and we control the SMU offense. On defense SMU plays the gap-control front seven, and soft zones in the secondary. Texas Tech ate that up. (10 out of 13 third down conversions successful) The strength of the SMU defense is in the front four. They have decent LB speed, but missed A LOT of tackles in the TTech game. LB's are fast, but small. Their secondary has issues, no way around that. Play action passes could be huge against the SMU defense. Coaching: Advantage - EVEN. Each coach does some things unique. Phil Bennett believes in rolling with the flow of the game on offense, and "Gap-control" against the run on Defense. This makes the offense unpredictable and the defense difficult to run against. Coach Bennett will change up his attack based on what he sees right then. Darrell Dickey is more of a "game-planning" coach who more or less scripts what he wants from his offense. Dickey will only change up the offense if he sees a distinct mismatch. NT will run the ball as scripted, even with 9 defensive men in the box. The NT defense has more "man for man" speed on the field, and as a result plays less gap control and more "run to the ball" type D. This is a benefit against a flexible offense. Wild Card: "QB by committee" - NT needs a QB to step up and take this team. After only one game, it appears that Woody Wilson may be that guy. Options at the point of breakdown are what seperates a stagnant offensive from one that moves the ball. IF the gameplan is working, then Jamario has his 200 yards rushing and the QB only has to manage the game with no mistakes. If things start to go bad, the QB will need to make plays on his own. Coach Dickey has time to get that guy ready, but we need a leader to step forward and direct this offense. I think we may have something in Woody Wilson... My prediction: Jamario has a big first half, Quinn and Jackson have a big second half. North Texas 35 - SMU 21. GMG!!!

Phil Bennett is a class act. I got a kick out of his Darrell Dickey stories. He will have his team ready to play on saturday, you can bet on that. This game should be a good one. GMG!!!

About time... With Isaac under center, you can kiss the safety blitzes goodbye! GMG!!!
