  1. I talked to Evan while he was at workouts this season at Fouts. He is a class act and a good representative of what comes out of North Texas Athletics. http://www.dallasdesperados.com/news.cfm?i...98BDA9E478DC4B6 We'll be there again for games this year as Arena Football is a blast! My company is a sponsor, so we have a box at the AAC. Good times... Good luck Evan and GO DESPARADOS! GMG!!!
  2. Meshuggah is the name of serious Metal Band. For those of you into the death growl thing, you should check these guys out. As for me?... My doctor reccomended listening to KNTU for it's calming effect. That screaming stuff would relapse me... Welcome aboard Dan!!! You already come to home games and tailgates... Now you'll have to face Ashley in the Flag-football game. (you think she hit you hard in the parking lot?) GMG!!!
  3. As much as I care for Darrell, and I still think the world of him... that was a needless chop at us. I'm glad he gets a shot to keep coaching, and in a job where there is not so much pressure to produce immediately. He will get the Agg's back on the winning track, but I dont know about a title. There is a lot to do for those guys to get to the top, and it starts with recruiting. I dont know who he will go after, but if the stealth recruiting thing starts again?, he could be in for a very long season. Good luck Coach Dickey. We appreciate what you did for us. Oh by the way, on 3rd and 22... PASS the ball, or the Aggie fans will be the next ones trying to kill you. GMG!!!
  4. Never happen.. Bring on Bob Stoops!!!!!! GMG!!!
  5. Thanks for the emails and suggestions. I agree that playing the game in Fouts would be nice, but the practice field where we played this game last year is now named the "Andrew Smith Practice Field". As we play this game to benefit a scholarship in his name, I think we should play on his field every year. I will talk to Coach Dodge about that when he gets some free time in the next couple of weeks. In the mean time, let's remember this game is not just about football for us. We play to honor a fallen hero. A kid that took us to a bowl game, won it, and if not for a Geroge Marshall dropped ball... may have been a blow-out. Drew was a great kid who would talk to anyone. He was the best of what NT football was for us, and he was a great ambassador for those who knew little about UNT. This is what I tell our sponsors who have given so willingly over the last few years. We use this game to help our athletes go to summer school. Last year we raised well over $800.00 on just one Saturday? It may not sound like much, but that was a great contribution to the Athletic Department in Drew's name. We were told as much when we took them the money. There are lots of reasons for us to play this game every year. As traditions go, I'm very proud to be a part of this one. Thanks again Harry for the Board, and a place for all of us to get together and plan things like this game. More game info to follow... GMG!!!
  6. You guys are already talking smack? This may be the earliest that has started... The plan is to have the GMG Bowl around the same time frame as the Spring game. I have not yet talked to Coach Dodge as he is very busy, but I will get the specifics from him after the recruiting trail cools off a little. In the mean time, start thinking about your draft bios and I will have a tenative deadline in the works soon. As always, the committee will attempt to get as much donated as possible for this game. As for the jerseys, FFR may be the best point of contact for that. I have a source for T-shirts, but not jerseys. More info to come. Dates and times will be announced as they become available. GMG!!!
  7. Oh that's funny stuff. They make it look like we think Todd Dodge is GOD? He is A God, not THE God...I dont think? I also got a kick out of them including Riley in the schtick. Those guys have a pretty good sense of humor right now. It's all fun and laughs until, by some accident, NT goes into Norman and the Todd Dodge offense surprises the Sooners. They have no Adrian Peterson, a brand new QB, and no game film on NT with the spread offense? Todd Dodge believes he can beat anyone, and will not roll over for the sainted Sooners. No more of that "get the game check and try not to get anyone injured"...mind-set. Todd Dodge is going to pull out all the stops to knock off OU. The odds may be agaisnt a win there, but we are not out of it before kickoff, as we have been in the past. I'm glad they are having fun with us.. Those guys mean no harm and are really funny. I also think they are right. Todd Dodge really is that big a deal for us and our recruiting. GMG!!!
  8. Riley is an absolute competitor. He threw up again on the sidelines after the TD. There was a backup QB warming up, but you couldnt have removed Riley from that game if he had a leg fall off. The kid is a leader and is tough. I dont know where he will play college ball, but that kid will be a winner...regardless of his size. GMG!!!
  9. Oh that's just wrong, man. Funny... but wrong. I've test driven a car before and didnt get into trouble? Of course, I took it back the same day. I just didnt know you could keep it for longer? I'm going to the Ferrari dealership tomorrow... I hope it's run by an OU Alum. GMG!!!
  10. I'm there.., especially after the last one was really a good time. Beer for the tailgate: $10.00 Hot dogs and Grandys Rolls: $5.00 Football talk and seeing long-time friends: no charge Watching Emmitt go head to head with a bald refferee....... PRICELESS For everything else, there's mastercard. GMG!!!
  11. Good changes suggested so far. If we moved Venegas to DT, I would want to go back to the 4-3. The front four could be very good. (rotating Chapman, Burruss, and Gilmore at DE, and Thomas, K-Ridge, Miller, and Venegas at DT) I would offer a few more position changes that could help immediately... and you guys wont like a couple of them. 1. Woody Wilson to DB. I know this is not a popular suggestion, but look at what we get? Arkansas wanted him to play there for the same reasons. Woody has recovery speed and moves well in traffic, as we have seen. He has the size to play corner, and can certainly read routes. He would know where the ball is going, and talk about potential excitement after he intercepts a ball? We havent had that in the defensive backfield since "Neon" Don McGee roamed the secondary. I see a play-maker in Woody Wilson at corner. 2. Danny Meager to WR. We have noticed two things about Danny that are obvious talents? He has amazing run speed (he caught a DB from behind after throwing a pic in the spring game...and prevented the touchdown), and he knows wide receiver routes and timing. I think Meager would be a great addition at receiver, but we need to be sure the shoulder is okay. 3. Brock Stickler to LB. Okay, before you get a rope... here's the deal. There are no TE's in TD's offense. Brock is a good receiver, but we need WR speed from the 3 and 4 wide reciever sets. Brock is more of a possession guy, which is why Dickey was toying with the idea of moving him to H-back. At 6-3/ 220lbs, he would give us size and speed at LB. He has always been a physical player, and could be a blitzing stand-out like Graves was. Imagine a Taylor Casey type player with Brock's size and speed? Kind of makes you stop and wonder? 4. And finally... Gary Obure to WR. He is a tiny little guy (5-8/ 150lbs soaking wet) who plays with a big heart, then gets over-powered and beat or blocked out of the play. We have seen Obure has speed, we just watch him get pushed around on D. He might be a perfect receiver in Todd Dodge's system. Why not put him in a position where he may help this team? He obviously has talent or he wouldnt be here. Give the kid a chance to use his speed catching passes. He may be too small for the defense, but he could find his spot on offense. Again, these are just "what-if's"... and we all have our opinions. I will trust TD to do what is needed to fix this mess. I suspect lots of players will get their chance now that Ramon Flannigan is gone. There should be wide open try-outs at ALL postions. Spring Ball will be fun this year. I'm ready. GMG!!!
  12. I'm in... I cant wait to see who's fans you have screaming "Who's house?...OUR HOUSE!!!" Hehe GMG!!!
  13. Good point Bill. I honestly think Riley will end up in the Big XII anyway, but having his Dad as a head coach does keep us somewhat in the running. As for the possiblilty of running off future prospects, I dont know that we dont have our next guy here already. Nathan Tune may just be as good as we could sign for TD's system. The question is what Riley gives us if he decides to come here. He is already experienced in this offense, and runs it very well. I watched his last two playoff games and the kid makes sound, quick decisions. If nothing else, that kid is also a serious competitor, and is a natural leader. If you watched their last game you saw Riley shouting at the defense from the sidelines to fire them up. He was obviously gassed in the fourth quarter, but wouldnt come out of the title game even while throwing up on the field. I know there are lots of other college recruiters who saw that performance and plugged Riley into their recruiting lists. I think most of us are going by what we have seen, and are impressed by Riley. I wonder if Tune and Phillips are going to do as well in the spread? There is no reason they cannot as they are both pocket passers, but Riley has his Dad's winning experience and attitude. Some of those things cannot be taught. We will know soon enough if NT already has a QB who can pick up this offense. Remember also that Todd Dodge already has a scheme in mind. That generally suggests he would recruit offensive players from High schools that run a version of the spread. Control the learning curve, and success can come much earlier in a program. It will be interesting either way to see who is under center after this season. Let's get this ball rolling... GMG!!!
  14. Riley Dodge sales pitches: 1. Hey Riley, you can still wear the green shirts you've had for the last four years. 2. You're close enough to Denton Ryan that you can scout them for your old high school. 3. You're Dad is a winner and is going to be here..., do you really want to play for SMU? 4. Go to UT...you're on the bench. OU...your're on the bench, A&M...no matter when you play you're a WR in the Pro's, but go to North Texas...you're proabably a starting QB and get all the women. 5. Hey Riley, think about this... "What happens in New Orleans..STAYS in New Orleans!" GMG!!!
  15. I want Santa to bring us a star scoring threat. I know, we have J-Mo... But I want a receiver with 18 TD's! Anyone who watched the SLC-Westlake game last night saw what I mean. (three receivers with double-digit TD receptions) I cant wait for the spread offense. I dont know who the QB will be, but I bet Santa brings us one of those next year! GMG!!!
  16. We already have a guy like that on our roster. We just cant figure out why he is never on the field? Isaac Thomas is that guy for this defense. In the 3-4, he should be a huge impact player, but there seems to be lingerring effects of his illness... whatever that really was? He told me it was an enzyme problem and they had it corrected. Maybe I missed something, but I sure didnt see him on the field much this past season? He did play sparingly, but we need him to be out there more. I guess we leave those issues to our new "Master of the Mean Green". I expect he will evaluate EVERYONE on the team and our best players will be out there. Let's get going, Coach Dodge!...I hope you win another state title, but hurry up and get here! GMG!!!
  17. My nephew plays at SLC now, and I have seen a great deal of their games. Nathan Tune is the guy we have that fits the mold the closest. There is no real way to know until spring ball, but TD will find his QB quickly. Oh, and I also see Riley going to the Big-XII with the numbers he is putting up. It wont matter that much for us, in TD's system we have a couple of guys here already who fit the bill. I am curious about what happens with Woody Wilson? I hate to say Arkansas was right, but he may be better suited to play DB. No more speculation from me on that one... TD will get the right guy for QB...... I'm out. GMG!!!
  18. Good post, Mav. LONG..., but good. We have all debated many times on this board about most of what is written in that article. Whether the new system works or not, recruiting, yadda..yadda...yadda. The result is simple. no matter what happens, North Texas has already benefitted from the Todd Dodge hire. Forget all the outside stuff that will come with him, and just look and listen to the interest he is generating right now. Season tickets will jump huge, we are getting press all over the state, and even the fairest of fans are tallking NT football. Rick Villareal is a genius. Even the most dedicated of Darrell Dickey supporters (Of which I was, and still am one), realize there is NO way his staff could have generated this much interest in UNT. NT footbal took a huge step forward. Let's see how far our new "gun-slinging guru" can take players like Nathan Tune, Brandon Jackson, Casey Fitzgerald, and Even Robertson. These guys will thrive in the spread offense, where-as they may have been under-used in the Darrell Dickey system. If TD can also find a way to use Jamario Thomas, we could be watching something very exciting on offense. I cant wait for Spring ball. Even without recruiting, we have offensive speed with the players we have here right now to run this offense. The future is looking very good for the Mean Green! GMG!!!
  19. Great win by the BBall team! 8-3 is a good start. Dont let up, JJ. GMG!!!
  20. Just reserved my table through Ticket office (Meg). Sounds like they are going quick! I love the buzz Todd Dodge is already creating in the Mean Green Nation! GMG!!!
  21. Dont underestimate the attention that will be heaped on NT because of Todd Dodge. I think we draw around 27K for the opener. This is a new era in UNT athletics, and a very exciting chapter is about to be written. People all over the state know Todd Dodge, and it will jump the attendance numbers immediately. Let's see what we get as early as spring ball. I cant wait to see the spread offense with the team speed we have. This is what TD does best! GMG!!!
  22. I'm very impressed with his focus. TD was certain in the direction he wants to go. I also liked his talk about the spread offense and no-huddle. This is going to be a real change, and much needed I think!!! Bring on spring ball... GMG!!!
  23. Should be an interesting spring? In Todd Dodge's offense, there are no fullbacks or Tight-Ends. He runs a spread very similar to Texas Tech's, and it is extremely effective. Most of the teams he beats with the pass. Colleyville-Herritage he beat with the run. No one ever knows where the ball is going, which makes that offense impossible to gameplan against. We have lots of pieces for TD to play with, but some moves will have to be made. Some offensive players will be making the move to Defense. Either way this will be an entirely different offense. We finally get to see J-Mo and Robertson catching swing passes out of the backfield. Todd Dodge brings us options, options, options!!! So much for the "predictable" play calls, and GOOD RIDDANCE! GMG!!!
  24. SMU kept Phil Bennett with hopes that he can pull them over the wall next season and get them to a bowl. Bennett is a class act, and I hope the Pony-Powers guessed right. I didnt honestly think PB would still be there after this season, but he is one of those coaches you just like and respect. Bobby and Vinny Chase are players on that SMU team and are good friends. I want them to know what going to a bowl games feels like. That said, I think a Todd Dodge offense gives NT an unpredictable edge and that is what makes it so dangerous. SMU had trouble reacting to a predictable offense in Denton. I wonder what facing the spread offense will do to them? Regardless of who coaches who, I think NT takes a step forward next season. I dont know that I can say that for SMU, but I hope Bennett gets the program going. Personally, I think this is a very exciting time to be Mean Green!!! GMG!!!
  25. Amen to that, brother. As some will soon see, Coach Dodge also runs a not-so-typical offense. Great days lie ahead!!!!! GMG!!!
