Bio: Shirt size is L. Veteran of all three GMG Bowl games. I am athletic and a very focussed player on the field. (During GMG -I, I focussed on Nicole. GMG-II, I focussed on Cheri, GMG-III.. I focussed on Ashley). A QB/WR/DB/P, who can catch, throw, and take a hit. (well, a hit from Pierow. Justin knocked the crap out of me..I was out of commission for 4 weeks.....the loser. (hehe, yes I may hold a slight grudge) I am also the GMG.com Bowl Committee Chair again this year, so I reserve the right to go back and forth from the field to the press-box. I'm doing interviews with GMG.com Bowl guest commentators Bob Stoops and Phil Bennett. (After drinking a glass or two of the green coolaide, I'll look at Bennett and say "We OWN you"... then I will look at Stoops and say "YOU, we'll buy in September") Yes, my green koolaide has rum in it.... LOTS of rum. GMG!!!

Okay, let's get this thing going. It looks like saturday, April 28th at 1:00 is going to fly. Remember the coaches will draft live, via the GMG chat room... so sell yourself to the coaches! Only players who have a bio posted here are draft eligible. We are also holding the age minimum to 18, but those are the only restrictions. Have fun and good luck! More info to follow... GMG!!!

Will be posted tonight. Waiting to see of there are last minute changes???? More to follow... GMG!!!

We have TexasStranger as the ref again this year. He has always done a great job! GMG!!!

Yes, I will post a bio thread sometime saturday with the updated schedule and timeline. I think using the same trophy is a great idea. I would appreciate you taking care of that! Thanks Steve! In answer to the email questions so far... 1. We draft the girls first because there are usually only 3 or 4 and we want the teams balanced. 2. No jersey source has been named or come forward, so we go with the t-shirts as usual. 3. The draft bios are mostly for fun. You dont have to have played a sport before to get picked. Everyone who wants to play gets drafted. 4. We have to continue to disallow minors into the game? It's not that we dont want you there, we do... but we tend to have alcohol at these games, and the potential for injury makes it difficult to get you out there. ( I can vouch for the injury thing) We dont do the medical and financial release forms, (as adults, we handle our own medical issues should they arrise) and there are too many responsibility issues in cases of injury. I will have to hold firm on the 18 year old minimum to play. Again, I would love for everyone to play, but there is simply too much risk. 5. Finally, the entry fee and shirt fee have not been deterined yet. Those numbers are coming and will be posted as soon as I get them. There will be no checks mailed or such this year. I will pay for the shirts and names, then the players will pay their fees on gameday. No issues there... you pay, get your shirt and play. More to follow... GMG!!!

I know we are all fully focussed on the Mean Green basketball team, as well we should be. This is a quick update... Your GoMeanGreen.com Bowl-IV Coaches are STEBO for the Green team, and EMMITT for the White team. As Stebo asked to coach the green team, I will allow the white team coach the first selection in the draft. Remember our female players must be drafted first. The draft roster will be posted as soon as all of the bios have been submitted. I will re-post an official timeline by Thursday night. Remember to add your shirt size to your draft Bio. Be creative with the bio and have fun. For those who are playing and dont submit a bio, I will do one for you. There are some who will tell you that is a HUGE risk....see the past bio's. Also note that the start time for the game has changed to 1:00pm on April 28th. This is to accomodate the parents who have kids in AM sports. More to follow... Go MEAN GREEN BASKETBALL !!!!!!!!.....Beat Memphis!
-
I have looked at moving the start-time to the early afternoon. Remember that in late April it is getting hot in the afternoon. (at least it was last year) However, we should get as many people as possible in for this game. So, unless I run across a road block from the Athletic Department, we will attempt a 1:00 kickoff. Again, nothing is definite until we get the approvals, and they are a little busy right now with a NCAA Basketball Tournament in New Orleans. We will re-visit this when they get back. Go MEAN GREEN BASKETBALL!!!!!!!!!!......Beat Memphis!

Glad the date works out. There were others with scheduling issues as well, so good deal. As for the jerseys and Fouts Field, we really dont want to play at Fouts Field. We should play this game every year on Andrew Smith's Field. (It is a scholarship in his name?) The Andrew Smith Practice field is kept up, It's natual grass, and we wont have that black rubber stuff in our ears, mouths and noses like we would if we played at Fouts. As for the jerseys... Anyone who wants to get a donor to put those up for us feel free. I have no contact for jerseys that would be donated. Yes, we could buy them... but that takes away from the money we can give to the scholarship fund? Last year FFR (Rick McKinney) got the shirts donated, and I got the names and lettering donated. I may have found a source for the shirts and lettering, but they will not donate jerseys. (I'm still pushing for the t-shirts) So, if you have a source for the jerseys please let me know. Otherwise we will have t-shirts again, which we have been happy with. More info to follow. GMG!!!

No age requirement. You must be a member of this board to play, but all are welcome to come out and be a part of the event. I dont believe we have ever had a player younger than 18, so I would call that a minimum age. I believe everyone on the board clears that one, So get your bio ready and watch for the final timelines (schedules). They will be posted soon. GMG!!!

Due to many scheduling conflicts with our own people and the AD, the GMG Bowl-IV game is now tenatively scheduled for April 28th at 10:00AM, to be played at the Andrew Smith practice field (where we played last year). As it stands right now, and remember these dates are pending approval... March 12th - GMG-Bowl Committee and team captains selected March 16th - have shirt vendors selected. (Ashley Williams will get design as she did last year...thanks Kit - MeanGreenDork) March 23rd - Player BIOS due, along with shirt sizes. March 29th - Live player draft on GMG Board, plus any trades or substuitutes (time to be determined, but shooting for 9:00PM) March 31st - Shirts orders placed based on team colors (everyone will pay their fees on gameday...reduces the hassle) Any fundraisers is addition to the game and shirt fees should be submitted no late than this date. April 27th - Field walk-through for the Referees and committee. If field safe, go to dinner. If field not safe, walk field B. April 28th - Setup at 8:00AM. Shirts handed out at 9:00 and money collected. Team warmups and photos at 9:30 Captains coin-toss at 9:50 Opening prayer in tribute of Andrew Smith at 9:55 Game-time - 10:00 Halftime - 10:30 Second half - 10:45 Game ends - 11:15 Closing prayer for Andrew Smith -11:20 Pictures - game MVP selection - Game trophy presentations - 11:30 I am working with Mary Hardin (Coach Dodge's right-hand) and Brian Bethea to get everything finalized. Coach Dodge has already said he would support us in this effort, so I will post the finalized timeline as soon as posible. In the mean time, note the date changes and be thinking about your Bios. More info to come... GMG!!!

Hi Guys, The game is tenatively scheduled for April 21st at 10:00AM. We will be this game and all future games on the Andrew Smith practice field (where we played last year). Fouts Field is again booked for the "Race for Life" event. I am in contact with the Athletic office now trying to get all the dates pinned down. Coach Dodge is a bit harder to work with as he is gone a lot of the time. We are penciled in for that Saturday (21st) as the Spring game is on the 22nd. (Sunday) My shirt screener went out of business this year, so I am searching for a new vendor for that. AS for the jersey request, unless someone has a point of contact for that, we will be going with T-shirts as usual. A timeline for events and deadlines will be posted as soon as I can get Coach Dodge to approve them. As it stands right now, (remember these dates are TENATIVE)... March 9th - GMG-Bowl Committee and team captains selected March 16th - have shirt vendors selected. (Ashley will get design as she did last year...thanks Kit) March 23rd - Player BIOS due, along with shirt sizes. April 20th - Field walk-through for the Referees and committee. If field safe, go to dinner. If field not safe, walk field B. April 21st - Setup at 8:00AM. Shirts handed out at 9:00 and money collected. Team warmups and photos at 9:30 Captains coin-toss at 9:50 Opening prayer in tribute of Andrew Smith at 9:55 Game-time - 10:00 As always, let's remember why we play this game. It is a lot of fun, but takes some effort to put together. We do all of this each year in memory of a fallen hero. We remember a young man who gave all of himself to step up and bring North Texas a Bowl win. He was the best of what North Texas Athletics stood for. This game provides money for the student athletes to go to summer school, or help with costs of their education. More information will be posted as I get things solidified. In the meantime, be thinking about your BIOS and let's play some football!! GMG!!!

What Play Will Dodge Open With Against The Sooners?
medpilot21 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
opening play-call at OU by George Dunham..... (George) - "First and ten for North Texas at the 26 yard line. The Mean Green Offense goes with Nathan Tune at QB, Jamario Thomas the lone set-back, Brandon Jackson wide left with Evan Walker in the slot.. Sam Dibrell and Casey Fitzgerald split to the right. Tune starts from the shotgun formation with Jamrio Thomas to his right. There's the snap...Tune looking downfield...cant find an open man, avoids the pressure and dumps the ball into the flats for Thomas. Jamario at the 34.. gets to the 40 and BREAKS A TACKLE!...Thomas streaking down the sideline at the 50...at the 40...one man to beat....OH, gets a MONSTER BLOCK from Fitzgerald at the 30 ... the 25...the 20....the 10...5....TOUCHDOWN NORTH TEXAS!!!! We're looking around and there are NO FLAGS!!! A dump-off from Nathan Tune to Jamario Thomas nets a huge play and score for the Mean Green!" (Hank) - "Bob Stoops appears to be unhappy about the missed tackle and is talking to his defense as they come off of the field! We cant hear what he is saying from up here...but I can sure read lips" GMG!!! -
It's tough right now to take a stab at the defense. A LOT of players will be moving in the spring, and the jump back ot the 4-3 leaves some questions that we didint have last year. My best guess... DE - Blake Burruss/Montey Stevenson DE - Jeremiah Chapman/Willie Ransom DT - Isaac Thomas DT - Joe Miller LOLB - Brandon Monroe/ MLB - Tobe Nwigwe ROLB - Maurice Holman RCB - Dom. Green FS - Aaron Weathers SS - Roy Loren (possible move back to corner in the spring.. Steve Warren gets the SS spot) LCB - Desmon Chatman All of these are "what-if's" right now. Some of the defensive guys will move to offense. Some of the offensive guys (mostly TE's) will move to DE. Whow knows what we will actually have in each position, and this doesnt account for the newbies that come in the fall? We have lots of questions for Coach Dodge to answer. GMG!!!
-
Haha... that would be funny. Two years ago the SMU students had shirts that read "Keep Phil Bennett. Our team sucks, but the Nachos are much better" I dropped to the floor laughing at that one. Chris wanted that shirt, but we couldnt get a student to sell us one. Tulane won that game hands down 31-10, but the nachos really were pretty good. GMG!!!
-
Oh man that's funny! Tim Hardaway will never out-live that comment. For the rest of his life he will be the target of guys like Jimmy Kimmell and Ellen DeGeneras. Tim Hardaway was a great BBall player, and was a good guy when he was a Mav. I dont know where his hatred comes from, but he will have a lot more time to think about it now... GMG!!!
-
Funny bit... I can imagine he has had to answer one or two questions about what happened in the title game. After addressing it two or three hundred times, he may have just decided to have some fun with it. Riley has a state title and an impressive year passing, but will be rememberred for hurling his lunch on the football field. (and I doubt that in-game video will be forgotten anytime soon by the media?) Sometimes there is no justice...... hehehe GMG!!!

With the play-making receivers we have arriving this summer, I see Coach Dodge doing the same thing here that he did at SLC. I dont know how the spring practices will play out, but we can expect some position changes with our current WR's. My un-educated guess... 1. Brandon Jackson, JR, 6-1, 208lbs - Starter at WR 2. Casey Fitzgerald, SO, 5-11, 174lbs - backup at WR 3. Brock Stickler, SO,6-3, 219lbs - backup WR, but could be moved to LB or safety. 4. Isiah Smith, SO, 5-8, 175lbs - not sure he will be here past this spring. (good kid that never quits, but a victim of the numbers) Practice squad player. 5. Arthur Stubblefield, FR, 5-10,179lbs - DB 6. Korey Washington, FR, 5-10, 186lbs - WR As this is a "best-guess" topic anyway, why not look at the newbies too? All of the WR's coming in (with exception to Marcus King) have already played in a version of the spread. That is a HUGE advantage and a nice jump on the learning curve. Strangely enough, I think Marcus King will be a play-maker for us this year. All of this means nothing really until spring ball. It's coming soon and this year should be good... GMG!!!

Former Nt Kicker With Afl Colorado Crush
medpilot21 replied to medpilot21's topic in Mean Green Football
I dont know the guy either? Bio says he's a 7 year AFL vet, and played college ball at NT? I've looked back and cant find anything on this guy? We may need G-Money's help with this one. (he would have been a Dickey-era recruit?) After a 7 year stint in the AFL, he is probably a lock to survive the final cuts. Good luck to all of the Ex-Mean Greener's!!! GMG!!! -
Final cuts for Area League teams comes saturday. All teams have to be down to an active roster of 24 players. Jason has a good chance of making the team as he is the only kicker in camp at the moment. AFL teams have a bad habbit of last day trades and signees, but it looks good for him right now. Most college players aspire to play on sunday. Many who play in the AFL go on to successful careers in the NFL. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope to see all these guys have great success this year in the AFL. Getting paid to play football is awsome, in ANY league!!! Former UNT players in AFL camps: Jason Ball - Colorado Crush Evan Cardwell - Dallas Desparados Muhammad, Umar - Georgia Force GMG!!!

Which moment are we talking about? As much as I like George Dunham, I now listen to ESPN in the morning. I have a real problem with Craig Miller being an NT Alum and professing his love for OUsed. It wouldnt bother me as much if Craig would say good things about NT also, but he does not. I used to listen to the Ticket everyday, but it really became a Big-XII love-fest around bowl season. I called in once to talk to D&M about NT football. (the third straight SBC Conference Title and Bowl game, which Craig was ragging us for). The guy that answerred the phone (I think it was Fernando that morning) said they were not going to take calls on NT football, but I could send George an email and he would email me back? Uh.., they were talking about it on the air as the guy hung up on me? I know NT football wasnt a big deal to them, but a conference title in ANY league is news worthy and they were currently talking about the bowl matchups? Anyway... there have been some interesting moments at Fouts, and there will be a few good ones this year! . Let's see if Todd Dodge can get Craig Miller interested in HIS University for a change! GMG!!!

HAHAHA... That's a quickie-shot at a coach we used to know? Pretty funny Rick. As for the rules, I like what they are going to look like this year. I especially like the kickoff from the 30. I want to see what happens when Brandon Jackson and Devin Cox get a shot at returning more kickoffs. Sure going to miss JQ this year in the return game... Oh well, life goes on. GMG!!!

No joke there. About half way through the fourth I took my 12 year old down to the first aide station to get cooled off. We drank lots of water, and he still turned a strange color of purple? That scare knocked five years off of my life. I love the trips to Austin, but that game started and ended with the sun beating right down on us. I dont know how the UT fans felt, but that heat was brutal. I still think it was a good trip, and that End-zone vision at DKR stadium was amazing! If all holds true, we will get torrential down-pours again in Oklahoma for this game. (has been that way the last few times we went there). I would rather have than heat.... doesnt hurt as much. Bring on OU!! GMG!!!
-
Yes, he is HOF material. Do we take what happens this year into account also? His historic year was fantastic, but will his final year change some of your minds one way or the other? I believe George Marshall had one great year here at NT, including the "miracle in the desert" catch... but he will be rememberred for a dropped "sure-score" in a bowl game. In a "what have you done for me lately" sport, it's sometimes the last thing you did that sticks out. I say put J-Mo in regardless of this year, but I really think he will have a good year in our new offense. GMG!!!
-
I believe Michael Ruff (2001 or 2002 recruit... Harry would remember better) was a 4 star that was downgraded to a 3 star when he got to NT. That kid ran a legitimate 4.3 - 40 or better and was amazing. He would have been an incredible RB for us, but he had a 10-cent head. Watching that kid torch the fastest players on our team was amazing! I wish it would have worked out for him here. Oh well, some things in life were simply not meant to be.. "Failure is not the only punishment for laziness; there is also the success of others". Jules Renard (1864 - 1910) GMG!!!
