See, someone got the memo. We need shirt sizes, and GNV sends everything but his blood type. THAT'S being thorough! Mellissa will love this one. If we were handing out GMG Bowl shoes, only one person would get them!!!....hehe GMG!!!
-
The design is in progress now. Mellissa is taking care of this one. I'm sure she will post it here once we've final-okayed it. I think Kit is doing the artwork again this year. His designs have always been good ones. GMG!!!

Re-posted here for Pierow2 ONE POWERHOUSE OF A CORPULENT AMERICAN!!!!! Yes folks, you will be amazed at the football prowess of a man who is not only overaged, but overweight as well. Even though I have scored touchdowns in three of the previous bowl games, I now get truly winded just tying my shoes. The first amazing feat of endurance for me will consist of making it from my car to the field. So I suggest you get your seats early, because this does not be happen every day. Once on the field, I should be able to block well due to the fact that it will take at least twenty seconds just to go around me. Also, the football should naturally be attracted to my hands due to sheer gravitational pull. This, of course will be an unfair advantage on my part. This is why it is imperative that I even the playing field (so to speak), so I will only be physically able to run five yards before being in desperate need of an oxygen mask. I also vow to only hork on non-playing areas. My arteries are clogging with excitement at the thought of this game!

All-district in 06 and he has to walk-on? Most guys with those kind of skins get full ride offers from Division-IAA programs, and some Division-IA schools? I wonder if he had an injury or some other academic issues? At 6-1, 219 lbs he has the right size and speed to play strong safety... kinda like we did with Cliff Higgs? Gotta be a "now you know the rest of the story" kinda thing going on here? Where's Paul Harvey when we need him...??? GMG!!!

I was there with Emmitt and Zeke, and there were some intersting players to be watched. We didnt have a spring roster, but we knew who some were. Toby Nwigwe is back out there and playing very well. Justin Padron looks quick in middle coverage, and the LB corps over-all seems faster, but a bit smaller. Cam Montgomery looks good so far, and catches passes well out of the backfield. Micah Mosely was his usual consistent self, but the timing was off a bit between he and Vizza. That is normal for opening spring practices... The player of note in that practice was a DB #31 playing first team corner, and that kid is a ball-hawking Mo-Fo. He either made the play on the ball or caused a drop or fumble on just about every pass his way? Zeke commented that he was extremely aggressive, and he had the "not today" chant going when he would knock down a ball. I havent seen that kind of aggression since T.J. (Leon) Covington played spring ball a couple of years ago. Every time TJ made a fantastic play in the spring, the word DOMINATED came out of my mouth. Unfortunately, that same word came out when he played in the fall? I dont know who this #31 kid is out there right now, but we look to have a real corner out there again. No 10 to 15 yard cushion with this kid... he jams his receiver almost every play. He lined up on Dibrell most routes and played him very well. Didnt see the usual "Give him ten yards to prevent six points" mentality in this practice? About freakin time!!!! Welcome back Coach Deloach... name the bar and I got your first beer! GMG!!!

I'll start this thing off. MEDPILOT21: A taller QB and safety. Veteran of all GMG Bowl games, the after parties, and one post-game XRAY. Positives: Throw the deep ball well, throw the middle-routes better, throw up after a Jager-Meister shot guaranteed. Above average hands and can take a hit. (refer to the XRAY comment already posted) Good down-field throws, spreads the ball to multiple receivers, finds the open spots and get the ball there quickly. Negatives: Andy Blount was near most of those open spots, so passes got picked. Is easily distracted when Hope24 and TwoDollarPistol are on the field at the same time...(one or two "delay of Game" penalties, forgot to snap the ball?) Believes Ramon Flannigan was a mis-understood genius; and crowd noise actually made "Your being out-coached" sound like "Come into the stands and fight you punk!!!" Prediction: 3rd round pick. GMG!!!

I'm there.. we get our first real look at the "Return of the Blitz!" defense. With Coach Deloach running our D, I do think a fight song will be played everytime we blitz.........OURS! GMG!!!
-
Haha.. it's already started!!! As for Justin Barnett, the rule is really in place for scholarship football players, but track athletes might also have an advantage. I dont think a 6-10 basketball player would likely run a 4.5 - 40? JB is welcome without activating the "GoodSheppard" rule. However, I still see a possible advantage in an end-zone "Jump-Ball" situation????.....hehe. This will be a lot of fun!!! GMG!!!

Winner of the Andrew Smith picture will be draw at the end of the game by Harry. Winning team trophy and MVP award right after game. Pictures taken after awards will be posted on the GMG board. FFR will have BBQ available after the game. (Thanks again Rick) Draft Rules (Draft begins with the white-team selecting first. As in Chess, the white moves first. I do this every year...captains usually rotate, so should be fair) 1. The selections will be a normal draft, meaning each captain takes the player of their own choice. The draft will continue until there are no draft-eligible players remaining on the roster. All eligible players will be selected. 2. All players taking the field on gameday must have been drafted during the live draft. Late roster additions may be allowed, but must be approved by BOTH captains, then myself. 3. Women will be drafted first, as usual... then the guys. 4. The captains may discuss player trades at the end of the draft. Trades are allowed as long as the teams are kept relatively equal. I retain the right to reject a trade if it appears to make the teams un-even. (Has never happened in five years?) Prior years trades were all fair and all went but one. Game rules Most rules (such as blocking) will be discussed at the coin-toss by Texas Stranger and the captains. As most of us have played this game many times, we all have a pretty good idea of what we can and cannot do. Here are some basics for the game: 1. All questions about the actual game-play should be discussed with your captain so he may discuss it with the Ref. Reminder - all calls and decisions made by the ref on the field are final. No questions or complaints about a call may be made directly to the official. 2. Only team captains may call the ref over for clarification of a call made on the field. The officials word is final. 3. A female player must play QB at least one series in each half. Females must be on the field at the same time. In cases of an odd number of female players, the captains will rotate accordingly to ensure everyone gets playing time. 4. The flag belts must be worn by all players at all times on the field. Should a player lose the belt while running, they remain eligible receivers but are considered "down" at the point of the catch. RINGERS 1. Former players are certainly welcome in this game as they are also alums, and to us they are special. However, the presence of a Division-I scholarship athlete on one team can substantially affect the outcome of the game. To ensure fairness, I am enacting the "GoodSheppard-Clause". A former scholarship athlete may certainly play, but the other team must also have a ringer on the field to balance the talent level. Both ringers must be on the field at the same time, but they do not have to line up against one another. If one team has a ringer and the other team does not?, the Ringer may still play, but the team with the ringer will drop one player from the field and play a man short for that time. Anyone who played in the first GMG game, or played last year understands why this is a necessary rule. We love having our star athletes out there having fun with us, but being "poster-ized" by them over and over gets a little frustrating. This rule is for the sole purpose of fairness and team balance. That's it for now. Get your BIOS in with the shirt sizes by the date listed and let's have another great time out there!!!! Special thanks again to Harry for making this whole thing possible, and for giving all of us a place to talk Mean Green Sports year round!!!! GMG!!!

Favre Retires
medpilot21 replied to BIG DAWG's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Favre will be missed, but Aaron Rogers is a stud. I think JQ will do just fine playing with a guy who has under-studied Favre for four years. First ballot HOF'er... definently. I am wonderring what Favre will be like in a broadcast booth? He is pretty funny and still has that Louisianna accent. I would love to see he and Troy Aikman call a Cowboys-Packers game. GMG!!! -
Should Unt Consider Justin Willis?
medpilot21 replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Football
I dont think he would come here regardless of what position he could play, but think of what could have been if a former QB had stuck with this program???? Left corner: Justin Willis Right corner: Woody Wilson Strong Safety: Bron Hager Free Safety: Kartey Agbottah Drunk in New Orleans: Medpilot21 GMG!!! -
North Texas Night At The Desperados First Home Game
medpilot21 replied to Bryan316's topic in Mean Green Football
Evan played the last year of his contract last season, and spent most of that on injured reserve. He told me he planned to take another shot at getting into someone's NFL training camp. He was a fan-favorite in his first AFL season and scored several touchdowns... but the injury bug got him last year and the Despardos let him go. There are several ex-cowboys now on that squad, and it looks like Coach Will is looking for more seasoned players on his line. (Colston Weatherington, Daleroy Stewart, etc...) Evan hopefully will get a call to go to training camp. On the flip-side, how about how well Colston Weatherington is adapting to the AFL???? From Dallas Cowboy washout to Dallas Desparados star!!!!! Jerry Jones found a way to get his money out of him afterall. Too bad that didnt work for Kareem Larimore???? See you guys there Friday night! GMG!!! -
The guy has a Super Bowl ring coaching special teams. June Jones may be on to something here. Looking at what SMU has had to work with in the past few years?, every chance is worth taking now... GMG!!!

HAHAHA.... knew a shot was coming from someone! GMG!!!

I'll answer like this.... Last year Andy Blount picked off one of my passes. He had about 40 yards to go and at least 8 of my team mates between himself and the goal line. He scored easily with 15 yards between himself and any other player? I think we can safely say that there were no players on that field about to catch a former scholarship athlete? If you can stand up, run even a little, or just count to 3 and rush the passer you can play in this game. We are all pretty much average joe's. As for AB, I have instituted a new "Ringer" clause that may help even things out this year. (Andy scored 4 or 5 times by himself in last year's game. I lost track after the 4th TD or so...) It's great having the former players out there, but the game is supposed to be basically played at our level. For the record, AB did the same thing to us in the first GMG Bowl a few years ago. No one that big should be that fast? He really shows us why most of us could never play Division-I football...hehe. GMG!!!

Okay MeanGreeners... it's time once again to sign up for the annual GoMeanGreen Flag Football game! GMG Bowl-V will be played at Fouts Field on Sunday, April 13th at 2:00pm. I am working with Brian Bethea this year and all is finalized with the date and location. As always, to be eligible for this game you must be a GMG-Board participant and be at least 18 years old. All team members will be selected from a "draft eligible" pool of players, so get your draft bio in by the deadline. Specific rules will be posted at the date listed below, but most of us have been through this enough times now to know how it works. Watch the board for updates, and as always... remember why we play this game. We honor a fantastic young man who gave all he had for us. Let the smack talk begin, but dont forget why we do this. Okay, here are the dates to watch: GoMeanGreen Bowl-V TIMELINE Friday - Feb. 29th:Team captains selected and contacted. Game rules and information posted. Friday - Mar. 7th: Draft Bios due, including shirt sizes. Thurs - Mar. 13th:Live Draft on GMG message board. (link will be posted to that chat) Sat. - Mar. 15th: All roster changes final: shirt orders go in. Sat. - Apr.12th: North Texas Spring Football Game at Fouts Field. Sun. - Apr.13th: GoMeanGreen.com Bowl-V at Fouts Field.(2:00PM) Send me questions via pm if needed, otherwise watch for updates. Harry or Loro..please pin this one for me. Thanks. GMG!!!

HAHA..... Now that cheered me up! I dont know who Nautique is, but you gotta give them credit for the "Don Vito" thing. This thread wont last ten minutes, but it looks like my day is going to be okay afterall... GMG!!!
-
Dont believe everything you read... My nephew played with Tomlin this year, and said he plans to play at Vandy? I dont suppose we will really know until signing day. This one should be interesting to watch. GMG!!!
-
Haha... fire might just do it. wonder where we would play our games? I guess there is always Texas Stadium... the rats wont mind. GMG!!!

I also liked the way Hansen asked him the "history of coaches here" question...." There have been many good coaches who were here before you and they didnt succeed...how are you going to be different?" JJ's answer... "Well, we're going to have a very exciting brand of football. The kids we have committed right now are fast. We will sacrifice some size for speed, but at the end of the year you will say we are a fast team." Good misdirection...get the fans excited about bringing in the Hawaii Offense. You still have to have the QB and receivers to make that work? No Timmy Chang or Colt Brennan at SMU. (at least not that we've heard?) I still think by using the word "success", Dale was asking Jones about wins? Also, who are these fast recruits who have committed to the Ponies? I still dont see them on Rivals? So many issues to address... Coach Jones has his work cut out for him. I would love to have a series ironed out with SMU and have the Todd Dodge offense versus the "Hawaii-on-the-Hilltop" offense. Could make for a better show than the last meeting. We'll see what they really have to work with on Feb. 6th... GMG!!!

Talked to his Dad before the Navy game, and he seemed positive about the team and the coaches? Really hurts to lose a quality young man on this OL squad, but these things seem to happen every season. Good Luck to RP. I hope he finds a place that works for him If he decides to continue playing. GMG!!!

Easy guys...this is the right place for this post. Rick is probably talking about the service from ticket office and some shortcomings in the Ath. Dept. I hope some of them read that list. I have had mostly good experiences with the Athletic Dept. (Gabe in the ticket office is great, Mary at Coach Dodge's office very helpful, and Brian Bethea is fantastic in the AD), but there are some others over there who need to read this post. I believe Rick put it here for them. I know of an alum who has had to go around the horn to get any season ticket information for next season because no one from the ticket office would call him back? He has never had a season ticket and he graduated in the early 90's? This is a new fan and returning alum. I know they are busy over there, but every seat sold helps? I suggested he call Gabe direct, or let me call for him to see if I could get some info. The point is simple... Customer service is important to all of us when dealing with the NT Athletic dept. If NT ever gets to the point of an A&M or UT, where there is a waiting list for tickets, then dont return phone calls.. but we are not there yet? Good post Rick... most of us got it. GMG!!!
