"I still laugh at anyone who refers to a team as "theirs" that didn't graduate from (or at least attend) the school. But I understand why alums feel passionate about college football. " I work with a lot of obsessed UT fans...........who graduated from UTA I don't know if they get a pass or not, because they don't have a football team right now.

I think Vizza is 4 for 4. At least, that is what I heard on the broadcast. edit: I guess that is for the last drive.

Well, the only good news is that I took the over on the total points scored in this game (at +68). If figured Arkansas would rack up the points. But, I also think NT might get 20+ before this ones over. 52 points scored already.

Arkansas calling time outs and passing deep up 45-7.......huh

Based on the results on the field......yes. Does this degrade my belief that this team will be successful in a few years........no. I said going into the season that the team could be 0-12. When Hal Mumme took over at NMSU, they were 0-12 in the first season. It will take a while for NT to click like they will (eventually) on offense. A few good recruiting classes will really help. The surprising thing to me however, is that the defense is so bad right now. I admit, I did not expect that. I think some of our coaches (especially defense) will have to adapt as well as the players.

Good summary. I agree with you on all points. After the first quarter, I thought the offense was on par for a near-record breaking day. Meager and the entire offense looked unstoppable those first 4 drives. I was shocked when FAU started shutting us down. In the 4th quarter the offense, especially DM, seem to lose all confidence. We really needed a spark at QB late in the game and did not get it We basically lost the turnover battle 5-0 if you include the blocked punts. The late 4th down conversion by FAU was a killer. I could have sworn we stopped them on 4th and 1. The defense just wilted after the measurement. The 2 replay delays were just awful. I believe the 2nd one was over 7 minutes long. The future is very bright for this program. But, this one stung a bit. The atmosphere was terrific. It was the best time I have ever had at Fouts, excluding the final score.

Unt Officials Predict Record Attendance!
akriesman replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I was impressed with attendance tonight. FAU fans were almost non-existent. The Navy game will be very good, if the weather holds out and the team is playing at least exciting football. -
"He's not going to get a look at QB anywhere but UNT" I am 100% sure that this statement is false. He may not get a shot at QB playing for the perennial top 10 college teams. But, I am damn sure that there is at least several BCS schools that would give him a shot at QB, if Riley had shown any interest at all in their programs.

Dodge Stays Confident After 0-2 Start
akriesman replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I think that Navy is our best chance for a sellout, if it is going to happen this season. I would not expect Florida Atlantic to travel well unfortunately. Personally, I think 20k+ would be a great start this weekend. -
What time does the Ben E Keith deck open before 6:00 games ? This is my first year with season tickets and as a MGC donor. Thanks !

Based on recent history, I have to agree with this. The Sun Belt is definately much stronger than it was when NT was dominating. TD will take us to the next level. And, it is a good thing because the Sun Belt is no pushover anymore.

Amen brother. We have just stepped on the first stone, while attempting to cross the river. It is going to take some time. In the meantime, enjoy the ride. This was one heck of an exciting game. Isn't that what we have all wanted ? Exciting Football ? -

We were a hair from leading 21-10 in the half. Instead, it is 14-17. Still, a good half from our team. The false start penalties were killers. But, those will decrease as the team becomes more familiar with the system. I think it is obvious that we are going to see an explosive offense just continue to get better. But, I am also just a bit concerned with the D. -

SMU scores on the last play of the first half 17-14 in a half that we should be leading. Anyone remember the recent Tulsa game ? -

Now Fitzgerald fumbles a first down and SMU recovers (on 4th and 12)...... Dang. NT was really moving again on that drive. SMU has enough time to put something together still. -

A very much needed 73 yard punt by Spencer. The momentum was going in SMU's favor. -

TERRIFIC start for NT. Nice first drive comes up short. 2nd drive goes 80 yards for the score. The passing game sound like it is clicking perfectly so far, with Meager leading the way. 7-0 good guys. I wish I could be at the game today. Dodgeball is going to be a BLAST. -
Hi Dodgefan. I think most of the hatred comes from the fact that it had always seemed like SMU was trying to block North Texas from moving up, out of fear of the bigger state school. They don't seem to want NT in CUSA, even though we would make a great travel partner. A few years back, Jamario Thomas had that incredible season where he was neck and neck with Adrian Peterson for the Nation's rushing title. With all of Jamario's achievements, even the 200+ yards against Colorado, he was left of the list of candidates for the Doak Walker award (presented by the SMU athletic forum). Whether these events occur by chance, or are actually driven by SMU's desire to keep their larger neighbor down, nobody really knows. However, the perception is real to NT fans. Personally, I am not on board with all the talk that this is by far THE most important game on our schedule. It is important because it is a local rival, who completes in the recruiting of local athletes. Other than that, I don't really understand the absolute importance of this game. NT will eventually catch and pass SMU in my opinion. But, it probably won't happen this year. I also think the bashing has gone too far personally. But, there may be more to this with the current NT students that I don't know about. SMU's attitude towards NT seems to be slowly changing. Having them as a natural rival would be a good thing for both schools. So, did I get this mostly correct guys ? Why does there seem to be more hatred now than ever ?

I know people were upset and looking for a scapegoat. But, I really have felt bad for the young man and hope he has not been reading the board. OU's receivers are going to make a lot of corners look bad this year. I would not be surprised to see Roman turn into a fine corner for us this season.

"You know the type that don't get their feelings hurt by message boards." This is a good point. Unless your team has just won a championship, you will find negativity and criticism on any team's message board. I know of one NFL coach that tells his players to refrain from visiting message boards. But, I would not be surprised if every coach says this, including TD.
