Great job Flyer ! Your work here will make a difference.

I have to agree with TIGreen01 regarding Adler's post. Why wouldn't those specific numbers be published for the students to see ? What am I missing here ?

Reminder : Another Belt Game On The Duece 2nite
akriesman replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
Let's go Troy ! I hate Schnelly and FAU. -
E-Bone, I don't think I can be considered a negative poster. But, having fans that show interest, good or bad, is probably better than fans that have no interest at all. North Texas has had enough fan apathy over the years IMO. The day that the program is in real trouble is the day that the fans stop caring.

16k+ people showed up to watch a game that features probably two of the worst D1a football teams in the country. That fact alone is what makes this the most disappointing season in my 24 years as a fan of NT. The fan support is here right now. But, at the time of our peak fan support, we end up with a team that may go down as the worst in the history of the school. I give TD all the credit in the world for helping to bring an excitement to this program that I have never seen before (Hayden Fry was before my time). But, all the momentum is about to go into a complete tailspin, if it has not already occurred after the last 2 weeks. Last week was the most embarrassed I have ever been. This week I just feel very, very sad as the apathy starts to settle in I agree that next week will be 12k at the most.

Again, nice job Flyer.

17k attendance. I have no clue on the score. This game will depend on the fragile pysche of the NT defense. If the NT defense makes a couple early stops, and they realize they can play with another team in 1A, then they could turn this thing around at least for a day. I just can't believe that we lack that much talent on defense. And, we know defensive coaching is not the problem. At some point, I expect a light bulb to go off on the defensive side and our 50+,60+ and 70+ days will be over. If FIU cuts thru our defense on the opening drive, then LOOK OUT BELOW........ This game may be determined on the very first FIU possession. I suspect our offense will put up 24-28 points this week. So, in the end it will fall on the defense.

Buying A Daily Ad To Support The Stadium Vote
akriesman replied to rcade's topic in Mean Green Football
I second this. Thanks again for all you are doing Flyer. -
"95% of them will be presented in a way that will make us proud to have the Athletic Department call this the idiot board. " LMAO

I agree. I don't get the stadium is dead threads. If anything, we need the new stadium now more than ever. Just like all good politicians, we need to spin this negative into a positive.
-
Stan, you are absolutely correct. Fan apathy is the worst thing that can happen to this program right now, which is why the stadium vote MUST pass. Even if the football team continues to struggle this year, the stadium will give everyone something to look forward to while the team recovers. Deloach is a good college coach as we all know. TD is at least a smart coach and will adapt to this level as necessary over time. As bad as it is right now (and it is bad), we need to be supportive of the players and coaches we have. Fans have been coming to the games, despite the poor performances, because of the hope that TD's hiring brought to the program. Somehow, someway, the train needs to keep rolling.

Damn. If the team does not miss his talent, they sure as hell will miss his leadership. I love watching the guy trying to fire up his teammates on the sidelines. Sometimes, he seems to be the only one that really cares.

They do have a great playoff system. I was excited to make the move to 1A. But, I do miss the 1AA playoffs.

What Is Going Through Dodge's Mind Tonight?

Thanks as always for the inspiring words OldTimer. Things will calm down around here after today. -
Bingo ! Rice had over 400 yards at halftime.

Keys To Success! Turning North Texas Around!
akriesman replied to GreenGuam's topic in Mean Green Football
Since we are throwing out absurb suggestions, here is one I was thinking about today. It was obvious that we were not going to stop Rice (until they stopped trying on offense). So, I was thinking why not kick an onsides kick after each score ? The onsides kick percentage would actually be higher than the percentage that we were stopping Rice (which was zero for most of the first half). I actually had this thought when we scored to make it 28-20. Of course, the coaches would never do this because it basically tells the defense that they have no confidence in them. But, at least for today, onside kicks would have probably been more efficient. -
Maybe FIU will be overconfident and overlook us next week

After todays debacle, and with the stadium vote coming up, our football team needs to dig deep and come out and play the best game of the Dodge era next week. It absolutely must happen. Its not about winning the Sun Belt at this point. Its all about finding something positive to build from. The team needs to get mad. Get mad at themselves. Get mad at the fans if they want to. But, just get angry and come out on fire next week. If we look bad next week at home, against FIU, I shudder to think about the ramifications. The media will be calling it the pillow fight of the week. Well, this is one pillow fight that we had better win, because the fan support is waning at the most critical time period for NT football in decades. Personally, I have faith that the team will pull together this week and play their best game in years next week. The future of this program may hinge on the teams performance next week, which is a really scary thought.

I am sorry to hear that. It has to be miserable for you down there right now. At least we can go hide under our covers right now
-
I don't know if I have ever been more discouraged than I am today. And, this is occurring at one of the most critical times for this program (stadium vote). 56 points in one half against a non-BCS team is just stunning.

Jacqueline Giroir, YOU ROCK !!! -
I am really glad that this thread was brought up. The game day atmosphere at old Fouts is light years ahead of anything I have seen in my 24 years as a fan here. Most of the discussions regarding the administration here, seem to revolve around their failure to do one thing or another. While those topics may be warranted, you cannot deny the positive changes that are happening now thanks to the current administrations leadership. I cannot wait for the day in 2011, when I can look down from my seats without seeing that ridiculous track surrounding the playing field

Riley Will Be Starting Qb By Conference Play
akriesman replied to MeanGreenZen's topic in Mean Green Football
I am a bit shocked at this thread. Maybe I saw things differently than others. Tonight, I saw a QB (Vizza) that was under constant pressure. And, one whose receivers dropped a couple of critical throws, including a TD at the end of the first half. To be honest, I thought Vizza actually made something out of nothing on several occassions. If Vizza had the same time to throw that the Tulsa QB did, he would have shredded Tulsa's defense also. This game was lost on the line of scrimmage. And, our secondary looked just silly on several occassions (as you would expect from young players).
