It's Official - Lincoln Riley Hired As Ecu's Oc
akriesman replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Unfortunately, they already did that a long time ago. -
Any respect that I had for Craig James (as an announcer) is gone. I have no doubt that most, if not all, of what Leach says is true.

I think the Kibbie Dome renovations are pretty cool. It would be a great place to watch a game. Packing 20k in that place would be a big homefield advantage (unlike 20k at Fouts). I do consider the Kibbie Dome somewhat of an icon. It would be great if they could have somehow increased the seating to near 30k, while keeping the original structure aesthetics in tact.

Nice reality check UNT86. Thanks for sharing. I am thrilled that we have Riley coming back for up to 3 years. My only concern is with the deeper balls. He is going to have to get some zip on those intermediate routes to be successful over the long run. I don't expect him to ever have a rocket arm. But, our WR's are open on those 25-35 yard routes, yet the defensive backs are getting enough time to close the gap and make plays.

Pitt - Penn State was a huge rivalry for years. My guess is that Penn St will push hard for Pitt. Notre Dame is probably a pipe dream for the Big 10.

Disgusting Display Of Favoritism By The Big 12...
akriesman replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Because 1-A football is the only place where a championship is awarded by poplular vote and not on the field (to some degree). If UT wins out, they have every right to claim a national title. So does TCU, Boise and Cincinnati. -
Disgusting Display Of Favoritism By The Big 12...
akriesman replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Yep. I just knew that somehow, someway, they were going to find a way for Texas to win that game. That last kickoff out of bounds by Nebraska was just a killer (a familiar scene for us this year). I would love to have seen TCU get their shot. If TCU wins out, they are just as much national champions as the winner of the Texas/Alabama game IMO. For that matter, so is Boise State and even Cincinnati. -
Emmitt, There is one thing about Riley that may not show up in the stats. I would like to know what Dunbar's yards per carry average was when Riley was in the game, versus the QB's. To me, Riley was much more deceptive on the handoffs, which seemed to freeze the defensive players. IMO, this gave our RB's a distinct advantage when Riley was QB. I am not 100% sold that Riley is our QB of the future. But, I think his leadership and value to this team can go beyond his passer rating.

Most 2-10 teams that were used in this example were probably killed in most games. Our team was competitive this season and could have had a winning record with a few more good coaching decisions and the prevention of a few critical blunders. Going from 2-10 to 7-5 is easier, if the 2-10 season was based on things that SHOULD be easily fixable. Recruiting talented players cannot be fixed overnight. However, coaching blunders, a lack of discipline and the kicking game (not to throw Jeremy under the bus) are things that can be turned around quickly. I am not saying that we will be 7-5 next season. But, I think we are a lot closer to turning things around than most 2-10 teams were in the past. So, I discount the 2% chance of turning things around statement. Each situation is different.

Ok, I Am Officially Onboard With Decision!
akriesman replied to meangreenbob's topic in Mean Green Football
LMAO........Thanks. -
We all know that Coach Dodge has made a lot of poor decisions at times (up until this point). But, if he did not at least try and win that game, he would have been raked over the coals worse than he is for burning the redshirt. You guys that are bashing him for this decision know that. I think people are just piling things on him now out of frustration. I am very unhappy with the decisions that have been made on the field this season. But, right now I just want to give the coaching staff a pat on the back and move forward.

How Confident Are You In Our Football Program?
akriesman replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
Somewhere between 4 and 7 wins next season.Slight hit on recruiting this year.No change in attendance (because I think the team will be better).90% that TD finishes next season as head coach. -
Next year or bust. Count me in.
-
Hey now. Stop making sense
-
No. Not as far as all the losses go. But, there was a pretty big improvement with the team from last year to this year as far as competitiveness goes (I know the schedule was lighter...but still). While I agree that it is all about wins and losses, sometimes you have to look a little deeper to see if the program is on the right track. Are we on the right track ? I don't know for sure. But, we "appear" at least to be moving forward.
-
Exactly how I feel. In fact, I bet that 2/3 of the GMG members feel exactly like you do. Next year = No excuses.
-
Was it really the DB's ? Or, was it the lack of pressure put on by the DL ? Maybe both ? Good pressure from the front can make a secondary look awefully good....or bad. I do think that the tackling has improved over last year. But, that is not saying much.

As long as something comes out this week, I am not going to sweat it.

"Dodge still has a good relationship with staff and players" This statement is most important to me. Do the PLAYERS have confidence in TD ? One of the things I liked about Dodge when he was hired was his winning attitude, confidence and swagger. Lately, he seems to have lost his confidence a bit. If he loses confidence in himself, then the players will lose confidence in him. Maybe that is why it is going to take a few days to figure this thing out. I think RV needs to gauge the players feelings going into next year.
-
Going 3-3, 60 yards and a TD. That has to be a near-perfect QB rating. Don't you think about retiring on top Derek
-
Today's disaster may just change my opinion regarding next season. I thought that ASU was a beaten and injury-depleted team coming in. There really is no excuse for this debacle from our side.
-
My sentiments exactly. Personally, I don't think that TD has lost the team, even with all the gut wrenching defeats. However, only the players and their parents know for sure.

CG. We have had troubles in the RZ, bad penalties, turn the ball over consistently and have even been burdened by bad coaching decisions at time. Yet, even with all of these mistakes, our team has been very competitive this year on the field. I would not be surprised if we have racked up more yards on offense than our opponents overall. That tells me that this team is VERY close to turning the corner. Do I blame the coaches as well as the players for the mistakes ? Absolutely. But, with a few tweaks here and there and next year we are competing for the conference title. I don't want to even take a chance on the possibility of things blowing up. And, I really believe that next year we will start to put teams away when we should. All we need is a break or two to go our way. One more year for TD. That is what I want personally. We all wanted to see improvement this year and we have seen it. Unfortunately, the results have not been coming as victories. And, I am just as sick of losing as everyone else. Heck, I threw my seat cushions after yesterdays game for the first time since watching this team in 1986 I think when we all look back at this season in a few weeks, we will see the progress. Right now we are all mad as hell from all the late game disasters that have occurred.
-
First, I have never been as frustrated or as disgusted, by what I have seen on the field at the end of this years games. But, I want TD to get one more year. He has assembled a good group of talent that will be even better next year. Dodge (both of them) have made their share of mistakes. But, I feel like both of them are a little snakebit by the way things have fallen into place this year. With a break or two going our way, we can completely reverse this thing next season. Will Riley stay if TD is released ? That is another question. I still think that Riley is a major piece to our puzzle. Riley is a terrific all-around QB inside of 20 yards. But, it is excruciating to watch those floaters down field. Riley just has to get more zip on the longer throws. I think he can improve on those longer throws as he matures. I am not ready to blow this thing up yet. If we get a new coach now, that is exactly what I think will happen. One more year. And, I expect nothing less next year than a winning record.

Moments Of Epic Brain Lock I Can't Begin To Explain.
akriesman replied to CaribbeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I can usually keep calm in public. But, I completely lost it after that last interception by Rodge as I stormed out of the stadium. As if the first 9 weeks were not bad enough, these last 2 weeks are simply unbelievable. The last two weeks we have totally dominated both FIU and Army. Yet, we somehow lost both games due to mistakes at the worst times. We should have killed Army today based on what I saw on the field. It is completely obvious that Todd Dodge has assembled some pretty good talent here. But, it seems like every critical in-game decision that the coaches have made has backfired. What do you do if you are Rick and Dr B ? This team is soooo close to being good. Is it the coaching staff ? Is it just horrible luck ? Personally, I would be afraid to make a change when we seem to be on the cusp of something really good. But at the same time, these losses are killing our program right now. I don't know what to think right now other than rage and anger. What I do know, is that I have never in my lifetime witnessed a sports season (any sport) where a team continuously snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. This season has been completely rediculous.
