  1. I could not agree with you more. The students were awesome today. But, it seemed like only about 1/4 of the alumni side even bothered to make some noise on the key 3rd downs. In my 20+ years as a UNT fan, this may have been the first time I have every really witnessed us having a home field advantage due to crowd noise. Apogee could really be a weapon for us, if more people would realize that making noise can really have an impact. As it was, the crowd noise today caused Keenam and the Houston offense problems on several occassions resulting in penalties and/or timeouts. The lower bowl on the alumni side was loud and active. But, it seemed like the further up you got, the more reserved the fans were. I am not really being critical of the fans. People showed up and we need everyone we can get. I just wish that more people realize that the fans can really be a home field advantage, if they would just open up their vocal chords, especially 3rd down defensive stands.
  2. Agreed. The next 2 games (maybe 3) are going to be rough. But, if the team can keep fighting, they can still grow together and finish decent.
  3. My top 10 from that list would be mostly geographic rivals, with some name recognition in either FB or Basketball. Houston (regional and name recognition) SMU (obvious) Colorado State (name recognition from in state battles wtih Colorado U) Air Force (armed forces draw well) Memphis (name recognition in BB) Southern Miss (much like NT, with a little more name recognition). UTEP (texas school, even with distance) Rice (texas school and regional) New Mexico (still the top sports university in New Mexico Tulsa (regional) That's 4 schools from Texas.
  4. Yeah. That comment got my attention also....LOL I thought that beer could only be obtained in the club level. I doubt that I would have missed such huge news as "Beer to be sold throughout stadium".
  5. I know. Also check out the section on Albert Dudley, a "giant" tackle who weighs around 218. Wow. A 218 lb tackle ?
  6. I really expected to see Big Red, the WKU mascot in there somewhere. That is one of the strangest IMO.
  7. Yeah. I asked my kids if they would rather have a rail partially obstructing their view or have quick access to the bathrooms and concession stands. They chose the latter.....LOL
  8. Interesting. I have the same exact seats in section 206 (Row 1, seats 1-3). What did you think about the possible railing obstruction ? I really don't think it will be a problem for us. But, we won't know for sure until we actually get to sit in the seats. No matter what, I can't wait !
  9. Yeah. I am a little concerned about the railing. I took 3 seats on Row 1, Section 206 (seats 1 thru 3), without considering the railing as an issue. I have an 11 and 14 year old and they tend to take breaks every quarter. So, I like that they won't be bothering anybody at this location. My kids also like the idea of having a low-wall in front of them, instead of other fans. However, I do think the railing is going to hinder the view somewhat where we are located. There is really no way to tell how much until we actually get to view our seats in person. Hopefully, it won't be too bad. I was very impressed with the entire process. I had not seen the inside of the new Athletic Center before. And, everyone was very friendly and helpful (especially Jon and Cooper).
  10. I am going tomorrow to reserve 3 seats. I didn't expect that I would be able to get into section 105 by then (my points are only in the low 300's). But, I hope that I can get into sections 104 or 106 (rows 7-13), closest to section 105. How do section's 104 and 106 look at this point ? Thanks. I wish that they had a way of updating the seat map online, at least on a daily basis.
  11. I am trying not to get my hopes up too high. A 5-star BB player at UNT. Are you kidding me ? This is the type of recruit that would not only dominate the SB, but would allow us to make noise in the big dance.
  12. LOVE this comment. Schools like K-State (this season) are perfect for us. I am sick of playing Texas, OU, Alabama, etc at their location of choosing.
  13. Thanks. I had a 1:00pm meeting today and missed the live conference.
  14. RV and Rawlins have to be snickering to themselves right now. They seemed to have pulled off a minor miracle, which is to find a way to keep nearly the entire GoMeanGreen family happy at the same time. They hit a home run with their ability to keep both McCarney and Canales. Well done RV, Pres Rawlins and everyone else involved.
  15. Hmmmm. Players carting him off the field after his final game following a 4-8 season. There has to be something special about this guy.
  16. I would like to echo this statement. It is nice to such positive feedback coming from his old school. Thank you ISU fans for coming to our board to share your personal experiences regarding McCarney. I really wanted Leavitt. But, the more I hear about McCarney, the more I like him.
  17. If we could work this out financially, and Canales would agree to it, that would be an AWESOME solution. If McCarney comes in and has a lot of success here, he might then use UNT as a potential stepping stone to a bigger job offer down the road. At that point, Canales could take over at UNT after the program is moving in the right direction (hopefully). It's a win-win situation for us IMO. The only problem, is that Canales seems to want the man right now.
  18. I am confident that RV will make the correct choice. But, I am crossing my fingers for Leavitt. He has the experience and he will have something to prove. I am all about 2nd chances. As far as the choking incident goes, it is a crapshoot: Either: 1) Levitt knows that he choked the player and is lying. 2) The player story (and others) is a lie. 3) There is a shred of truth to both sides, but Leavitt actually believes he is innocent. Personally, I think it is #3. People often interpret the exact same event differently. How often do you hear people argue over ref calls, even with instant replay ? As George Castanza said "It's not a lie if you believe it"
  19. Riley is a warrior and I am thrilled that he is now our 3rd string QB in an emergency. But, I really miss the occassional shots that we took downfield with Tune and Thompson. I am pretty sure that Troy was creeping up to the line during the last game. I would love to have seen what our running game could have done if we had the threat of stretching the field. If Riley's arm was healthy (or stronger if that is the problem), then I would love him as our 1st string QB.
  20. Check this out guys.... When with Arizona, Stoops was the recruiter for North Texas. "He was recruited by Arizona defensive coordinator Mark Stoops, who recruits North Texas." http://www.dallasblog.com/index2.php?option=com_content&do_pdf=1&id=856268 Looks like he may have built a few connections in the area.....perhaps. It is just a little bit of information. But, the fact that he has recruited this area would certainly add another piece to the puzzle, if there is one.
  21. What a completely pointless statement by footballscoop.com. I guess they are desparate for news.
  22. Getting Riley, Stradford and Jackson back certainly helped the offense. Our offense moved the ball and milked the clock.
  23. Who cares if all the coaching talk has any influence anyway ? Personally, I find the coach-talk educational and a good distraction from this injury-filled, disaster of a season. It's good to dream.......
  24. Not having "any" influence is a little strong. You can't tell me that the fan/alumni reaction does not factor into the coaching decision at all. I realize that it all comes down to hiring a coach that wins games, puts butts in the seats and sparks an increase in donations. RV is going to hire the best guy to accomplish this task, despite the fan input, because his job depends on it. But, the fan reaction has to play at least a small part in things, even at UNT. Maybe you consider the fan reaction a "tie breaker". At large BCS schools with huge donors, I completely think the alumni have a say when it comes to hiring a coach. Do you honestly think that Mack Brown was hired at Texas without any influence at all from the high-end donors at UT ? What about T Boone Pickens at OSU ?
